Martinez joins Rotherham on loan

Third choice goalkeeper Emiliano Damian Martinez has joined Rotherham on loan until the end of the season.

The 22 year old has made 6 appearances for the Gunners this season, but with David Ospina and Wojciech Szczesny ahead of him, the club have allowed him to go and play regularly to aid his development.S

Speaking to their official site, Millers boss Steve Evans said, “Everyone at the Football Club are delighted to have signed a young man like Damian given the qualities he has and the very impressive CV he has attained in his very early years as a goalkeeper.

“It is only as recently as December that this young man was keeping a clean sheet for Arsenal in the Champions League, and he has of course kept more clean sheets in Premier League matches earlier this season.

“He is very clearly highly thought by the manager and all the staff at Arsenal and I must take the chance to thank Arsene Wenger for his courtesy and professionalism in agreeing to allow this young man to spend some time with us.”

Good luck to him, may the clean sheets be with him.

I think he could be a great keeper in time, big and athletic. Would love to see him have the same impact as Szcz at Brentford.

with ospina injury record, isn’t this risky?

Witoldo

No, we can recall him if needed, just like we recalled Le Coq when our midfield was looking a bit flaccid and droopy.

I wish him the best.

But why is he Damian now, again?

AllGunsABlazin

I thought he switched because it was too demonic for his liking. Perhaps he wants to strike fear into the opposition more now.

Merlin's Panini

Maybe he’s got some kind of split personality. He did well earlier in the season when he was Emiliano. He was a bit dodgy when he was Damian before – the howler at Reading in the cup springs to mind. Maybe Damian needs a bit of practice but Emiliano is fine so his Damian side needs to catch up a bit.

Hi-brid

Maybe Emiliano is a bit poncy for Rotherham.

Vonnie

He isn’t.

Rotherham the new Brentford

Arsepedant

Good luck to him. It must have been frustrating being behind Ospina and Szczesny, two first choices for their respective countries. Hope he gets lots of games for Rotherham.

Merlin's Panini

Good luck to him. He’s a good young keeper and he really needs the playing time. He did well for us while he was in the side this season.

Nice article, good luck to the lad

It has not be unknown that Arsenal had their first choice keeper and understudy injured at the same time. How come they let him go on loan? Even the clubs in the amteur leagues that I follow usually have three keepers on their books. While I wish him good luck and all the best for his future, two (very good) keepers looks a bit threadbare to me.

Mesut O'no

I’m sure there will be a clause if we sustain an injury

Toni

He doesn’t want to end up like Italiano Almuniano so he felt he needed to drop the make Emiliano and get minutes elsewhere. I kid I kid.

Toni

*name, not make.
