Arsene Wenger has taken the pressure off January signing Krystian Bielik by revealing he’s not expecting to hand the 17-year-old a debut this season.
There’s been plenty of hype around the Pole since his move from Legia Warsaw, but despite the £2 million pricetag it appears the boss is happy to ease the teenager into action.
Playing down suggestions Bielik is ready to challenge Francis Coquelin and Mathieu Flamini for the defensive midfield role, Wenger hinted the new boy will continue his development with the Academy
“He will play again with the youth team tomorrow night.” he told his pre-QPR press conference.
“[We’re] very happy [with his start], but let’s not forget that the boy is 17-year-old, comes from Poland and I have taken him in January more for next season because to give a boy of 17 years old six months to adapt to competitive environment like we have here is needed.
“I don’t think that [a first team debut] will happen [this season].”
After several weeks training with the first team Bielik made his debut in Arsenal colours for the under-18s as they went down 3-1 at London Colney against Norwich City on Saturday.
The highlights of his performance (excluding a mistake that apparently led to the Canaries’ second goal) were made available by the club on Arsenal Player; an unusual move given his tender years.
Back in January Bielik revealed he was hoping to see first team action in the spring. It looks as though he may have to bide his time.
It probably would have said more about desperation on our part than quality on his so it’s probably for the best. Give him a chance to adapt out of the limelight and bring him in if/when he’s ready.
Here’s hoping for a big three points tomorrow!
He’s far too young yet. Next season at least, even if he isn’t ‘killed’ by a new signing in DM.
I dunno, if I was Krystian, I’d bie-like “say whaaaaat?” You’re welcome world.
Wot?
Incredible:) Bad, But i love a bad pun.
Rude to comment on unrelated matter. But still, what happened to Ryo? His move was much more hyped than Bielik’s and I agree they are unrelated in terms of playing positions and so forth. He just had too much promise (hyped which I never got to witness except for glimpses of the same away on loan at Fayenoord).
Where is he now and how is he fairing? Any chance he might make the cut?
It seems very unlikely Ryo’s going to make it at the Emirates. In part that’s down to the injuries that destroyed his loan spells and confidence…but also because he’s not as good as the other options we have going forward.
The club were happy, and arguably over eager, to push his profile on arrival and also when we were preparing / embarking on tours of the Far East. He was a very convenient marketing tool, albeit one with the potential to deliver on the pitch. That talent doesn’t look like it’ll ever blossom at Arsenal now.
Should have done better for himself, the fates notwithstanding. A little disappointed.
I think injuries have really affected. People need to remember how long it took a young Ramsey to get back into form after his injuries. Ryo was an absolute beast on his first loan. He wasn’t called Ryodinho by the Holland media for no reason. And he did will initially when on loan at Bolton. But injuries have made him a shadow of his potential. I still think he can make it, but I don’t Arsenal, what with it’s high levels of competitions is the environment for him. Of a more interesting discussion is Wellington Silva, the forgotten one whom… Read more »
Google is a wonderful thing Victor 😉 But I appreciate you bringing that question up did wonder about him myself.
This article is quite an interesting read….

Quite some insight there. I am a little disappointed with him and fate in equal measure.
He was even hyped to be faster than Theo [and with better dribbling abilities by the way] before Bellerin burst into the scene. But I guess thats that about that.
If he does start we will suffering another midfield injury melt down
Pivotal stage of the season. Id rather see someone like the ox fill that centre of midfield than gamble on the boy. Hes got years ahead of him in red and white. His time will come
Yes but The Ox is a CM, Bieilik is a DM, that’s a bit apples and oranges.
Not quite. Ox has played there on the big stage. Bielik has not.
Well that’s settled. We should pay £300m for Messi and play him at DM because no one has performed better ‘on the big stage’ than him. Genius.
A little dumb, are we? Or just being obtuse? Position is one thing, being ready is another. A midfielder who is experienced can change and adapt (he may not do very well) for a game or two, someone that is not yet ready may not do well even in their favored position.
The Ox is a CM, just because that position appears next to DM on a piece of paper does not in fact mean he’s capable of playing there. But no, let’s play him there just because we like the lad. We already have Chambers who’s perfectly capable of playing there, so can all the video game managers calm down please.
The DM role isnt just about physical strength. It also requires a calm level head. The best DMs get better with age. It’s no surprise Coq made his breakthrough at almost 24. So let the kid wait a bit.
As for Ryo, remember we had Inamoto at one point? Ji Yung Park. If Arsene is going to buy players for the Asian market, he should get one who will make the grade in English football, rather than mere token.
My pen is capped
Jerà
In fairness to Inamoto he had a reasonable career in Engish football after leaving us and made 83 appearances for his country. Still playing apparently. Chu Young Park wasn’t untested in Europe, he’d scored 12 goals the season before for Monaco. His purchase was definitely a panic buy rather than a cynical marketing ploy, which I guess is even worse…
You know you’re important when the boss show up to your U-18 debut
Somehow, I think Ryo will turn out like Vela. He’ll make it alright, bit he’ll have to beef up and stay fit. Just not at Arsenal. But then again, you just have to look at Coquelin to raise your hopes.
*but
Indeed. Coq was written off by everyone even on arseblog.
The difference is unlike Coq, there are A LOT of options for the wide attacking spots.
Personally, i’d still keep him.
Ffs! He needs to play so his fifa rating is more accurate next year
Comment:Here’s an update on Ryo:

Hopefully Bialik will Blossom soon and make a Big Bang with Arsenal.
