Dreamy Invincible lauds precious Ozil

While we here at Arseblog News, dressed in our Robert Pires night-wear … our Piresjamas if you will, have a soft spot for the original handsome French bloke, that has no bearing on us thinking his recent comments about Mesut Ozil are spot on.

Speaking to this month’s Arsenal Magazine, Pires had plenty to say about the quality of the German international, saying he’s one of the best players he’s ever seen.

Ozil was instrumental in the 4-1 win over Liverpool, scoring a cracking free kick, and his contribution since he came back from injury has been excellent overall. In 8 appearances he’s scored three goals and created 25 chances for his teammates, so it’s little wonder Pires is impressed.

“I am so glad that he proved his critics wrong,” he said.

“Too many people have criticised him this season and overall since he arrived at Arsenal. I train with him regularly and I can tell you that he is one of the best players I have seen.

“He loves this club and cares a lot about it. He wants to win trophies here and wants to make the fans happy, like he did against Liverpool. First, there was his wonderful pass for Aaron on the first goal. Then he scored that wonderful free-kick for the second goal.

“Again, I am not sure Mignolet can do much better because the strike is so clinical and goes out before coming back in. But Mesut also worked hard for the team, he defended, he was precious on the ball and he was simply instrumental.”

The former Villarreal and Arsenal legend also touched on his growing relationships with others in the team.

“You can see that his understanding with Aaron, Santi, Alexis or Olivier is perfect,” he said. I love seeing Mesut, Aaron and Olivier exchanging those short passes.”

And so say all of us. And remember, if you’re still not a fan of Ozil then you’re never going to be friends with Bob Pires and that’s reason alone to change your mind.

I guess i just got excited.

EuripidesMac

I’m still excited and I still can’t believe that we have Mesut Özi11. It is quite the miracle of our current Arsenal days IMO. I’ve never thought he was shïte like so many have or even considered their words, other than always being surprised by it. What were people expecting Robert, Dennis and Thierry rolled-up into one little Türkisch Deutsch package??

What we have gotten is the Wizard of Öz.

lonsdale

“Of course, as a TV pundit, he is trying to polarize. At the end of the day, such criticism only gives me extra motivation.”

Sounds like a line from Mr Wenger himself

Halles

Many a man tends to forget, that the non-flying dutchman, the man himself, also took his time to become the player he was at Arsenal. It took Bergkamp a few seasons to get going but guess what – nobody remembers that because he was so good from 1998 onwards. Think we’ll remember our wizard like that in a few years time. He’ll be a monster next season, trust me.

beagleboy

‘Wizard of Öz’ – I think you are onto a nick that’ll stick 🙂

Runkeball

Aye! Wizard of Öz or The Wizard. So obvious. And he’s ours, no one elses!

Türkiş Gooner

As a Türk, I can also say he has a fantastic personality too. I have followed his career since early days, the guy is a Dennis-like genius…

bims lay

lol…thanks pal….you just got us a nick for the wiz

Eddie Kelly's disputed equaliser

Remember how Bob struggled in his first season? Sound like anyone we know who is going also make his doubters eat a large slice of whatever the German is for humble pie?

Runkeball

Strudel mit demütigen on top!

SG_Gooner

i remembered taking him in as direct replacement for overmars…. think im being unfair to marc….

Pooner

I love Bobby. I love Ozzy.

beagleboy

…Özzy Goalscore (sorry I couldn’t help it 😉

Gunnergetuptogetdown

I fucking love me some mesut! best years of his career ahead of him in an Arsenal shirt. This clearly demonstrates that Bobby knows more about football than Micheal biased as fuck Owen!

Cornelius P. Snuffington III

Fucking Owen from his throne as a match commentator, because he blabbed on about Mignolet being at fault on Ozil’s and Alexis’ goals and thus unfortunately had too much influence in shaping the way people talk about those goals. They were brilliant goals. Either one of those, if Mignolet gets there we’re talking about really outstanding saves. Ozil’s free kick was beautiful.

obvious stater

While I agree they were pretty good. Idbe furious if one of our keepers let in either of those. Ozil’s was keeper’s side, and a very nice height for a keeper.
Sanchez’s OK it was hut hard but from 20yards out and pretty much straight at him.

RoyaleWithCheese

You didn’t need this to demonstrate that though.

Danger Mouse

Michael Owen commentating sounds like a bluebottle flying around the room.

Runkeball

Michael Owen can comment on his own bum grapes!

Finsbury Park Gooner

Michael Owen is a personality vacuum.

Bumpy Bear

Anyone who saw Özil play for Real Madrid knows how good he can be. He created more chances than anyone in Europe top 5 leagues in his final season for Madrid, and notched up 36 assists from those chances which is borderline insane. I have never doubted Özil’s ability. I did however doubt Giroud due to him at the time having spent most of his career in lower french divisions, and allthough he was top goalscorer, it was with 21 goals which rarely get you top goal scorer awards in the best leagues, and it was in Ligue 1 which… Read more »

CB

Great analysis, a welcome change from those that say ‘Ospina’s sh*t’ (or Ozil, Szcz, HFB etc) without any evidence.

Oberon

Those stats are misleading our Szcesny’s averages will be out because of the tonkings we got at those infamous away games with most of those goals being unsaveable. Also why would a goalie need time to acclimate? It’s not like an outfield player.

gooner1886

They’re not misleading because it’s an average over a season. I’m sure all players would like to remove the bad games from their stats but then they wouldn’t be averages would they?

UFB

People judge our Wizard by saying “he should be better than that”. But than what???? That’s what the pundit did the other day on French TV. Always blaming Özil for this or for that, when what I was thinking was “what a player”. The guy didn’t even see that it was özil’s pass to Ramsey that created the momentum to the first goal.
They wait for him to make a decisive pass each time his feet hit the ball, like in their youtube-alike memory. They can’t acknowledge that what he does silently is so important and greatly done.

Bould's Eyeliner

There are plenty of ways to go about this to make a custom single pair – if however, Arseblog was going to start a merch shop………….

Santozilexis

but but “Raheem Sterling was better than Ozil”……………

Ritesh

That Michael Owen is allowed into TV studios after that comment is a testament to the abysmal standards of sports broadcasting around the world, not just the UK. I’m here 5000 miles away in India, but alas, even I can’t escape his mindless, dimwitted, comments.

GunnerRSA

Ug I rue the day Owen became a pundit. My goodness I can’t believe I admired him as a player; what a twat.

Shwoooooz Caproooz

But what does Bobby know about football and Özil..

We should all listen to that cunt of a scouse, who seems to think that the headless chicken Sterling is better than Özil.

bims lay

was that on April fool’s day?

Glasgow_Gunner

Could always iron on some pics to you current set. Not me though, not while Sellotape remains easily available.

Man Manny

I feel fulfilled watching Ozil in an Arsenal shirt. The bulk of the criticism is borne out of fear and envy from people who support other clubs. It is like “Let’s criticize him and hope that somehow, it gets into him and he actually falters”.
Ozil is the real deal and he will help us win more trophies starting from retaining the FA cup.

David C

quite right. He’s no Veron or Shevchenko; I think we’ll see quite more assists from him next season.

Sean

Still can’t get my head round the recent Özil criticism. His stats and understated quality speak for themselves.

He could resuscitate a dying child during the warm-up, score a goal in the first half, rescue a cat from a tree at half-time and score in the second half and still be lambasted by the clueless flock of hater sheep.

Keep doing your thing, Mesut, because we bloody love you.

Scott P

“Ozil’s contribution was OK today – about what you’d expect from someone who you paid quite a large pot of money for. Nothing more than that. As for his little half-time antics… what is he doing going outside the ground to save a cat?! He should be in the dressing room, focusing on football and worrying about how he can give more to the team! Could have been a hat-trick if not for that. Disappointing.” – Inane Pundit

Arsepedant

You have won the internet for today.

Scott P

I could have gone on… About how Ozil is now not only nicking a living from Arsenal but also from the firemen in North London who no longer have a job because he saves all the cats from tress, etc. etc. but I tried to show some restraint haha

Runkeball

“Not sure I agree with that Inane Pundit. I think he’s having a really quiet season. Yeah, I just think he’s had such a quiet season.”

Inane Pundit II

Runkeball

Ozil spent three seasons at Real and only left because their fickle slut of an owner fancied himself an over priced Welsh monkey instead. Owen spent one and a half season at Real and by his own account left because he doesn’t know how to buy a house. Is that a man qualified to pass judgement on anything?

Gervinho

It was a perfect strike but, to be fair, Alexis deserves an assist on it because Mignolet was terrified of the Chilean smashing one into the net. Rightfully so!

Cygan

If you have at least one gram of football understanding you will recognize that Ozil is one of the best. I still remember the curling goal from Pires that won a Liverpool game. A legend and so will Ozil be.

WengersNoseHair

Go away with your Roman Catholic units of measurement. We’ll ‘ave nunna thut ‘ere lad.

Little Mozart

Özil will always be my favourite player. I can’t imagine anybody replacing him.

GoonerFromTheEast

Rosicky?

Rozza the samourai

Ozil needs to win things for Arsenal now, like Pires, Bergkamp, Paddy and and Titi did. He obviously has the necessary football ingredients and very good players around him. Just do it, Mesut !

Yousef

Erm, like an FA cup?

Arsenal's Legend

well in as much as ozil remains an arsenal player and i never for once cheer Owen for playing for my dear club, then I don’t give a f*** about what he is smoking when he tries to compare a former established galacticos player to a player that is trying hard to get noticed by that same team. owen will always be a cunt just like terry

cygan'sbaldspot

Off topic, but I, like many others on here, think Michael Owen is a cunit. I’ve seen his name cropping up on the arseblog comments section quite a lot recently. It’s given me a thought – I’m going to create a ‘get Michael Owen the fuck off bt sports, for make benefit glorious enjoyment for football fans; and all those other cunts too.’

I’ll post it up here when it’s done. Together we can achieve something special.

cygan'sbaldspot

Cunt, not cunit. He is a cunt.

Arsepedant

I’m glad you left.

Third Plebeian

You lived next to a town named after Michael Owen?

Double98

There is a town called benchwarmingcocksucker

Wangge

You should move out from that city.

And here’s some aloe vera.

Runkeball

Cunit – The amalgamation of “cunt” and “innit”.

As in “Owen is a cunt, is he not?” to “Owen is a cunit!”.

Short, sweet and to the point.

Back of the net!!

I honestly thought it was a purposeful mix of “cunt’ and ‘pundit’. A cunit, or perhaps ‘cuntit/cundit’, as in:

Michael Owen’s new role as BT Sports cundit has led many viewers to question “why, just why?” Others have been seen simply walking around “questioning the purpose of their existance”, leading many commentators to conclude that ‘an armless monkey, bleeding from its eyes and sunbathing in the core of Chernobyl, could point out football facts with more accuracy’.

Runkeball

Poetry!

Dan the Arsenal Fan

Yes we all know, or should know, that Ozil is great. But what I really want to know is can Pires convince Mesut to grow his hair out again?

arse

I have to admit, I was an özil doubter but I’m happy to say that the lad has proven me wrong! He is an outstanding player and I have every faith that he’ll lead us to the title next season!! His class and elegance on the ball is just out of this world and paired with Alexis’ tenacity and the hard work of the team, the title is ours!!! COYG!!

bonkers

Thank the Lord!! Someone finally admits they weren’t an ozil fan all along. Your honesty shines above the fickle crowd

gammhunn

I must admit I was originally a little bit underwhelmed, but someone (it might have been on here) recommended following Özil instead of the ball while watching a game. Admittedly this is hard to do when watching a game on the telly, so I recorded a game and set about doing just that. It was a revelation. I became convinced after that one game, Özils understanding of space is just sublime, you frequently see him looking in the exact opposite direction to all the players around him. He’ll make these runs that seem nonsensical, only to pop up a second… Read more »

Paul

Michael Owen is clearly biased in favour of his own club.
For a “pundit” to be that way is embarrassing for him and the TV company he “works” for.
Surely he will be axed soon?
Fucking stupid cunt! COYG!

Gunsen Gunner

My brother ( a Liverpool fan) reckons coutinho is better than Ozil. What are they smoking in Liverpool?

beagleboy

They sniff glue.

Paul

…and touchlines!

TeeCee

Well, if they really believe that, that’ll be the reason why they aren’t getting a CL spot, aren’t getting the FA cup and got spanked by us in the league.

SuperTomRosicky

Never in doubt. Impossible things that he does while making it looks so damn easy.

skinnyarse

There’s no doubting Ozil is class, but only now he is showing what a top player we bought, I hope he shows that more consistently for the rest of the season and the next and the next 🙂

Arctic Troll

I read the headline as “Danny Invincibile”.

Shoot me now

GoonerFromTheEast

Save this for next season, please.

Mesut Ozil – love watching him play and great that Pires has an awesome regard for him. I really do think he’ll achieve for Arsenal. Some very good times ahead.

And just so we don’t forget the quality of the man off the pitch – remember him donating his WC bonus to those orphaned kids in Brazil? The man has a mighty heart!

Yup

The Özilator.

Hi-brid

Owen is nicking a living. Just as he did for the last several years of his “football” “career”.

Jack

I love you Bobby!

*bursts into hysterics

Arseblood

Ozil is that good, he’s probably now half as good as Pires was….

Man Manny

Can’t get over that flick for Giroud against Villa. Looked simple but 9 out of 10 players wouldn’t get it right. The timing, angle qnd speed were perfect. Gorgeous and simply world-class.

Bob's Mexican Cousin

More like 9873452.7/9873451.7 players wouldn’t have gotten it right

Stringer Bell

9 out of 10 wouldn’t try it. It’s beyond them.

All the invincible swoon on Ozil.

GOONERSMURF

I always knew that Ozil was in for hiding with English media due to his playing. because he is more grace than gore, more elegance than aggression he is an easy target. he is to me a percentage player and because his play is centred on making impact with every pass and movement, he appears to do less.

I don’t him to be anything than he is now, instead I believe that the criticms of Ozil like the one of Giroud and Sanchez is borne out of fear and jealousy.

Fabulous

People who have doubted Ozil clearly knows shit about football. For them the pre assists, creating space, a quick pass to set up a counter, means fuck all if you don’t end up scoring the eventual goal yourself. Anyone who understands football can clearly see the difference it makes to our attacking flow with or without Ozil. I bet if you ask them who is better between Cahill and Thiago Silva they will all drool over the former, because he “gets stuck in”, “wins all the aerial duels”, and all the other shit. Thiago Silva can very well get stuck… Read more »

Piresjamas. That is all.

Possession

Form is tempory but class is permanent……..and boy has Ozil got class !
