Twitter has put together an interesting infographic detailing the global support enjoyed by each Premier League club.
Given we’re currently deep into another ‘Winlull’ we thought we’d share it.
Here’s an explanation on how Twitter put it together:
“The map was created by looking at the official Twitter accounts for each team, using their followers as an indicator of allegiance (as opposed to, say, instances in which people mention a team while watching an interesting matchup or talking about a team’s rival).”
___
Arsenal on a global scale…
The ALL club map…[we’re in yellow]
The UK map…[again in yellow]
According to Twitter’s data…
- Arsenal lead the way in London and the South East of England – it’s not just the ‘north’ that is red.
- The Gunners are popular in the northern regions of Europe and Africa; most likely down to Monsieur Wenger’s distinctly Gallic transfer policy over the years.
- Sub-Saharan Africa is ours. So too Chile – cheers Alexis!
- We’re second to Manchester United in China and India.
- In the Middle East our Emirates connection appears to be paying off.
- In the USA we take a 21.08% slice of the action – the biggest!
- Japan, South Korea and the Philippines all love us Gunners. Tip of the cap to messrs Ryo and Junichi & Park.
Interesting stuff. Certainly something to chew on before the meat and veg of Sunday’s game with Chelsea.
I from Dublin and its correct there are a lot of Liverpool Wankers!
I m from Dublin and its correct there are a lot of Liverpool Wankers!
They’re all over the place here in Sydney too. That 4-1 over Liverpool was amazing, I was an insufferable prick for an entire week, and I loved every minute of it.
Even better for me, when there’s a dirty Mugsmasher in the family!
I live in the States and play pick up games every week in a group that includes a few Englishmen who support Sp*rs, so I get to be an insufferable prick every Tuesday night! That team is always giving me something new to laugh about at their expense 😀
NY is wonderfully red. Hail the Blind Pig!
don’t ever stop, guy who owns the shop up my street is a utd scum and after the fa cup victory i gave him no end of shit
More than are in actual Liverpool, judging my the skangery tracksuits.
Here in Canada (Toronto to be specific) there are Liverpool fans everywhere and they’re by and large 90% assholes. It’s why I hate Liverpool more than even Chelski or Man U.
no, my 2 brothers are Liverpool supporters and they’re all right 🙂
I still think Man U supporters are by far the most irritating. Liverpool supporters are kind of like that drunk old uncle at wedding sitting in a corner with some warm ale talking about the good ole days. You don’t really care about their old stories but you kind of feel sorry for them so you listen anyways.
Both lots have an amazing sense of entitlement.
The Man United fans are like the blonde girl who expects everyone to buy her a drink because she’s pretty and then complains about life being so unfair when she doesn’t get her own way.
Like a whinging Utd c**t then
Here in Vancouver there are a quite a few of Mancs, Scousers, and Chavs, but the Arsenal group gets by far the best turnout at the pub on Saturday mornings. We had over 150 for the semi-final and are expecting upwards of 500 for the final. By comparison, the Scousers got kicked out of their pub and I don’t think the Mancs or Chavs even have an official pub. I certainly see Arsenal togs on more people than I do for any other PL club.
Same here in iceland. I reckon were 3. With liverpool having the biggest fanbase, then man. utd. then us. Fucking hate the liverpudlians so much more though. Fucking liverpool.
Im from limerick and my brother is a pool fan,I really thought manure would be most popular here in Ireland, they must not count plastic fans which makes up about 90% of their fanbase
Yeah in fairness most mugsmashers I know are passionate, but my mate is a manure ‘fan’ and he didn’t give two fucks about them under Moyes.
The only Man United fan I know still thinks Beckham plays for them. Buys all the latest shirts and thinks they are top of the league. He hasn’t watched a game for 15 years. Lives in Surrey.
I’m from Iceland and those Liverpool wankers are all over the place. In fact, I enjoy seeing Liverpool loose almost as much as I like seeing Arsenal win. These past two decades have been good!
I know we always have a go at man u not having fans from Manchester but look at all those mug smashers!!
Implies Twitter is used by older followers, there won’t be many youngsters supporting Liverpool given their lack of recent success.
Nice to see we are first in many countries, second in the others, mainly. Sp*rs are 6th most of the time.
Hello there yellow dot on Baffin Island.
Top three in West Ham:
Liverpool
Arsenal
Chelsea
And to all Sp*rs fans – you’re not even in the top three in London… Beaten by Scousers and mancs!!!!
Hahaha…. Top three in Tottenham:
ARSENAL – 18%
Scousers – 12%
Sp*rs – 10%
You’re not even the most popular in Tottenham!!! That’s fucking hilarious!!!
This is worthy of a chant
And we’ve got more in Chelsea than Chelsea.
Sad to have no supporters in Orkney, though. Or in Greenland and the Outer Hebrides. Must be a climate thing, with the cold northerly types favouring Liverpool and the hot ones going for us. We’re huge in Papua.
Hahah, we are top in Chelsea and Fulham as well! Chelsea are a distant third behind Liverpool, mental.
Where are the red dots in South Korea? No Utd fans? Finding that strange, as a Korean…Yep, lots of Chelsea fans too. Damn.
This is hard to see on the phone but I was wondering how we fare against those Chelsea cunts? In my childhood I used to watch Arsenal of 97, and they seem to be the only team fighting it out with United. Coming from Malaysia everybody here seems to be United fans then, so I sided with Arsenal just to break the status quo. And well also because there’s Bergkamp. Nowadays, kids grow up to watch Chelsea winning things and they also start supporting Chelsea. Which is essentially a bloody nightmare. I dread the day my kid may even begin… Read more »
Indoctrination mate, it’s the only way.
When my son was born, his first match (on the telly, obvs) was the FA Cup final. He watches every game with me, wearing his Arsenal shirt.
He’s on his second shirt now, his first is hung in a frame on his wall, signed by the whole squad.
There’s no way he’ll be supporting anyone but the mighty Arsenal.
Similar story but from India. Bergkamp and Overmars was the initial reasons. On hindsight very proud of the affinity due to the class of the club, the manager (he can be frustrating at times but never short of class), the players. All the days of austerity that caused us big heartaches are both behind us as well as make the Premier-league victory sweet and true, that the glory-hunting fans of Chelsea and Manchester clubs will never feel (ManU included because not only they were way richer when Wenger took over but also because of Red-nose, who bullied his way to… Read more »
It’s interesting that we’re top three everywhere in S.E.Asia except Thailand…..
Canada just don’t give a fuck! 😉
The fuck we don’t!
You forgot Park Chu Young.
Added! Well remembered.
who?
I love that Tottenham are only the third most followed club in Tottenham!
Nigeria is red. With white sleeves.
Arsenal here, Arsenal there, Arsenal every fucking where lalalalala lala
“We are The Arsenal and we are the best.” A chant I remember from the sixties, still true then.
Looks like I am either a Manutd or a Chelsea fan! I got to start a twitter account!
I’m from Ethiopia & Arsenal got the greatest number of fans here followed by Man united
I concur with the sub-saharan figures. In my country Nigeria, I can tell you that Arsenal is a household name. If you go to the street and ask random people what football club they know, Arsenal is the first name that pops up even from people who know nothing about football. For every 5 football fans you meet, 3 are Arsenal supporters. To put things into context, we introduced EPL to Nigeria when Kanu signed for Arsenal. Proud to be a gunner forever.
What if I told u – here, in Ethiopia, the national league fixtures are drawn in such a way that major games are not in a conflict with Arsenal fixtures. Because if they do, empty stadiums are inevitable! That’s how much Ethiopia is red!
I love this
Hear, Hear!
I tell you what, not only North London but Africa is red too. From a proud Arsenal fan from Tanzania East Africa.
Hey Tz gooner I know what you are talking about just above in Uganda on any given Saturday for any team jersey I doesn’t matter Spain or German or even England there 20 Arsenal ones. There is a red colour in my national flag don’t believe what you are told it must represent the Arsenal blood that floors in this country. On and on and on we go. Come on you mighty Arsenal.
I am Ethiopian and we have by far the largest number of supporters for Arsenal compared to other teams.Thank you Wenger and Henry.
Oh,RIP my fellow Ethiopian CITIZENS butchered by ISIL
Interesting that the shirt-selling jaunts don’t seem to make a big difference. Despite going to Malaysia, for instance, our support there is quite low. It’s massive, however, in Spain, Germany, France, some of South America and most of Africa, as well as obviously in Japan (the Wenger connection). Seems it’s where the players come from, not the brand-pushing expeditions, that matter the most, and probably sell the most merchandise.
That, and winning of course. Maybe we should return to having a proper pre-season in Austria to build up fitness, as Wenger would like, and stop dashing around promoting the brand.
We’re 3rd biggest in Malaysia!
(or i’m reading it wrong……)
No, you’ve read it right, but I’d expect us to be higher since we went there to woo their support. We’re first in the Philippines without having given them the benefit of even five minutes of our presence.. I do sympathise with the fans in faraway countries wanting to see us. Sadly, however, it’s not because the big clubs think it is right to reward those fans’ loyalties that they that chose their country or city for pre-season jaunts. If it was, we’d have focused on Africa, especially some of the poorer regions such as Ethiopia where our support is… Read more »
Shame the UK map particularly doesn’t include non-premiership, as some strange figures, particularly around Cardiff, Leeds, Norwich etc. Still interesting though, particularly the low figures for Spurs (globally and even in London). Suppose that is a result of lack of success in the global age.
Zimbabwe is red and white! We love them goners too much. 1-0 to the arsenal. All pubs will be filled with red and here on Sunday.
Norway being mostly Liverpool it seems. Them and the red mancs are the ones that make up most of Norway’s fan base.
Sub Sahara is for Arsenal.
Makes sense that Chelsea has a growing fan base in Asia, alot of PLASTIC from there.
Going by this logic the UK is full of wankers because they all support Liverpool.
I’m surprised about surrey. I thought they were all ManUre or Chavs…..
Surrey born and bred, Wright and Bergkamp is what made me find my love of the game again after being unsuccessfully indoctrinated as a Chelsea fan when I was very young and not giving a hoot about the game. Arsenal has been pretty big in Surrey for as long as I can remember. Granted, they are on the wrong side of the river to us, but look at the alternatives… Chelsea’s training ground is less than 2 miles from me and that fuckwit of a Captain drives his Audi R8 (TERRY 5 numberplate…) like a prat past my house most… Read more »
Like my angry twit of a friend says whenever he sees an Audi: “Key it, dude!”
Common dude. Dare you generalize by saying Asia has a lot of plastic fans. I bet I can give a run for your money when it comes to supporting Arsenal. A lot of people can actually give *generalizing people* like you a run for your money.
oh sod off
It’s amazing and wonderful how nowadays fans from different countries can share their love for Arsenal. I think preseason games are very important for those that can’t make it to London and their purpose shouldn’t only be commercial.
I’m from Bangalore, India. It is true that there are a lot of ManU wankers here.
Pft! Yet another reason not to go to Antarctica.
4 out of every 6 BPL followers in Nigeria are Arsenal fans. #FactOnly COYG.
I wonder if we could do an infographic on Arseblog coverage by twitter across the world – judging from the comments in this thread alone, it would be quite broad.
Representing that small patch of Devon gooners!
Greenland have some work to do mind…
Torridge & West Devon here!
Spain must hate Barcelona. Therefore they support the team that play the less beautiful football, aka Chelsea.
You see the yellow dot in South India?
That is Bangalore!!
I live in bangalore…
And Bangalore Knows What Football is really about;)
#ArsenalTillIDie
I am from Bangalore, we see a lot of Man Utd supporters around showing off with their red jerseys…. but I guess the core of Bangalore loves Arsenal…#ArsenalTillIDie
We do love Arsenal in Bangalore!!! COYG
I am from Chennai, South India. We should post pictures of us celebrating in pubs from different parts of the world for this years FA cup final and send them to blogs. Let’s make it even bigger this time around. COYG.
in kenya arsenal is the most googled word during the last day of the transfer period
That’s because the mugsmasher and spuddie fans there are trying to buy guns to top themselves!
Looks like it’s not just North London being red, but the whole of London!
Just to bring up some old news: 80,000 “fans” went to Chelsea’s CL parade. while 250,000 Arsenal fans went to the FA Cup parade.
I’m a proud Gooner from India and I’m fuckin fed up of all the man utd glory hunting wankers here.
half of them turned into man$hitty fans in 2011 and now are again turning into manure fans….plasticly plastics!!!
Before 1995, Gooners were predominantly in England a few is US and Western Europe. AS Monaco was the famous french club in french speaking african countries on par with PSG followed by marseille. From 95 most african Monaco fans became gooners. Today you cannot be french speaking african without being a gooner unless if you are a twat (I know few off them. Mostly from Senegal who support the barcodes and few from ivory coast who completely lack of intelligence therefore support the Chavs). The recent charm offensive in far east is making the gooner population grow faster in those countries.… Read more »
Hull are big in Egypt! fair play to Elmohamady.
Now imagine what that map will look like when we start winning league titles again…
People love Arsenal in Malawi. Gooners rule!
I wore my Arsenal shirt on holiday in Malaga about a week ago, the amount of Moroccan dudes who slapped my back was brilliant.
The world is red 😉
We need to buy more shit players from exotic places.
Chelsea and Fulham:
1) Arsenal
2) LIverpool
3) Chelsea
Got to say, surprised we lead in the U.S. Most “soccer” fans around me are Manchester United fans including one of my teachers.
I know, I feel the same way sometimes, but I think the tide is changing. I was at a concert the other week and saw a man wearing a (dreadful purple) Chamberlain away kit, and another on the street before the FA Cup semifinal wearing a Rosicky home kit.
Probably because it’s easy to be a non-committal Man U fan- they probably have a lower percentage of twitter followers because they’re really not that into it. From what I’ve noticed a lot of people can say they like Man U or wear the kit but couldn’t name the current 20 PL teams.
Gooner presence strong and growing every time I turn around in MSP.
Here in Portland, OR I hardly ever meet an EPL supporter who isn’t a gooner.
Kigali Rwanda is at least 97% Arsenal..
I am aware that my post might be viewed unkindly and with everyone extoling the virtues of their country’s arsenal support, allow me to give my view. I am south African and our support here is mostly colour based. make that what you will. we have interesting dynamics in my country. people of Caucasian persuasion and those classed as “colored” are generally Manchester United, City and Liverpool fans, blacks are of mostly Arsenal. I suspect it has to do with Arsenal multicultural set up. interestingly, South Africans are huge supporters of EPL to the extent that local games are barely… Read more »
Hey bro
Not sure I agree. I have watched games with the Gooner supporters clubs in both Joburg and Cape Town and have found the crowds, both very sizeable, to be extremely cosmopolitan. Literally every race represented. If you are in either of these cities you should look us up, should have massive crowds in both for the FA Cup final and this weekend’s derby.
Happy Gooning! (Ghoen, pronounced goon, South African slang word for coitus…)
Crystal Palace are massive in Indonesia. No wait….
They’re not even ‘Big’ in crystal palace!
I am so glad now that I followed our team and its players on twitter even though I don’t use it much.. It was really good to see that Arsenal is second in India ahead of Chelsea, since one my best mates is a Chelsea/Mourinho fan.. It is going to be tough for him to swallow this stat.. Ha ha.. COYG!!!
Vermont is Arsenal!
This article really shows you what a bunch of plastic fans there are around the globe. Safe to say most of these were Man United fans 5 – 8 years ago.
Goonersmurf here in this day and age we spot racists by the points below:
1-Before they start talking, their usual opening is ‘I’m not racist but…’ or ‘what I’m about to say may appear racist but…’.
2- the use of ‘coloured’ to describe blacks or minority ethnic is plain bigoted. Why did you use ‘Caucasian’ for the whites and not ‘uncoloured’ to differentiate?
3- if you know what you are about to may offend and you are not bothered of offending so don’t be afraid of being labelled of racist.
Goonersmurf wasn’t being racist. The term ‘coloured’ in South Africa refers to people of mixed heritage over many generations. The term doesn’t have the same meaning as it does in other parts of the world and isn’t considered derogatory or racist, even by the people it refers to.
I’ll say there are way too many fucking chops supporting man utd in South Africa. There is large support for the Arsenal here in Durban. Representing for SA baby!!
Read his post again, you were too busy looking for the racism card to appreciate what he was saying. From what I can ascertain from reading his post, I’d firmly wager my mortgage on him being black himself, unless he is the exception that proves the rule.
Please engage your brain before you type, fuckwit. In South Africa “coloured” refers to a mix of black and white. There’s nothing racist at all in his post, just you trying to stir the pot.
