Gnabry heading to under-21 Euros

Germany have confirmed that Serge Gnabry will be part of their squad at the under-21 European Championships this summer.

A knee injury, sustained in March 2014, has meant the 19-year-old hasn’t featured at all for Arsene Wenger’s first team this season, however, he has stepped up his comeback in recent weeks with games for both club and country at youth level.

Speaking last week the winger underlined how keen he is to pick up where he left off in 2013/14 when he broke into the side with some eye-catching contributions:

“Pre-season is there for everyone to show what they’ve got. It’s the start of the season so everything is new. I’m hoping to make an impression.

“I guess I’ll be going away with the first team but I’ve got the Under-21 European Championship with Germany first so I’ll see what happens after that.

“I came here with the dream to play for Arsenal’s first team and I did that before my injury. I’m hoping to get back to playing for the first team next season.”

Germany will take on Serbia on 17 June, Denmark on 20 June before facing hosts the Czech Republic three days later.

Should they progress Gnabry could face Arsenal teammates Carl Jenkinson and Calum Chambers who are part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

If you’re in the UK you can watch all the games on BT Sport.

You’d forget how well he actually played in 2013/2014, some prospect! A loan move would be ideal

Somebody get Coyle’s number!

Trip to Houston perhaps?

If he proves a dominating player during pre-season, he should stay and even have the chance to be part of the starting eleven. It is up to him.

Bould's Eyeliner

That would be nice, especially since it could provide some interesting RW options for our squad, but regular game time would be more important for his development than making the odd game here and out. Plus the Ox is now going to be back for ’15-’16 as well…

It’s going to be fun, I hope. *furiously knocking on wood*

Definitely needs to go out on loan. Can’t see any spot for him in the squad next year with the group we have now. Already on the wings ahead of him we have Alexis, Walcott, Chamberlin, Welbeck and Rosicky, Ramsey or Wilshere when deployed there as well as Podolski and Campbell (who knows what will happen with them). Showed a ton of promise in 13/14, but really the forgotten man this year. I don’t think we could get much for selling him so best to send him out on loan to prove his worth to Wenger or to drive up… Read more »

Looked a wonderful talent last season, however I always maintained the thought that he looked a little ‘lazy’ defensively. Having seen Wenger’s treatment of Walcott who sometimes fails to operate well defensively I do worry slightly for Gnabry regarding chances to impress in the first team. As always, love to be proved wrong (in the right ways!) but if Arsene hesitates to start a proven player for that very reason, it’s difficult to see how he would wave the rule for an emerging talent.

This is taking into consideration that we have progressed massively on the wings since his last game for Arsenal as well.

Didn’t Gnabry make something like 5 tackles against the Spuds in the FA Cup or something?

Liked what I saw of gnabry a great deal and really hire he can get an injury free season under his belt. Do see some sense in sending him on loan though. You’d have to think that a fit Ox, Walcott & Welbeck would leave him limited opportunity outside of the other cup.

Would love to see him win “Player of the Tournament”
