Wellington looking for opportunity in England

Wellington Silva, the 67th best Silva in Brazilian football today, says he’s hoping to play in England, even if it’s not for Arsenal.

The 22 year old has been farmed out on loan since joining the club 4 years ago, and after completing season at Almeria now has a Spanish passport to his name.

However, it’s hard to see where he might fit into Arsene Wenger’s side as his time in Spain has been distinctly underwhelming – his 35 appearances in the last campaign brought no goals and the Andalusian side were relegated from La Liga.

Nevertheless, he’s hoping to be given a chance at Arsenal and if that doesn’t work out he’s got other offers as he explained to ESPN in Brazil.

“Of course, I want to be with Arsenal,” he said, “but if I must be loaned again, I have no problem with that.”

“There are two clubs in England that have already spoken with my agent, so I know I have those two options. I would like to play in England now, even if it isn’t for Arsenal, because I would like to learn more about the playing style there and get used to the league and the colder climate.”

Despite not scoring, Wellington declared himself pleased with his season, saying, “I am happy, I had a good season with Almeria and now I have a Spanish passport, which allows me to play in England.

“Since I arrived, I was told that it was precisely that and that is why I was loaned. Since I have no family of European descent, I had to wait to meet my residency requirement in Spain to get the document.”

While experience has taught us all that you never say never when it comes to any player, and that there were passport issues, the fact that he’s never added much end product to his game in the various loan spells suggests an Arsenal future is something of a pipe dream.

Or maybe just had a beef with Arsene Wenger.

We’re not sorry.

Looking forward to the inevitable headline, blogs:

‘Wellington gets the boot’

ETTAN

He just refuses to go away ! Got to give him credit for that.

AFC

Pizzaaaaaaaa!

the only sam is nelson

Christ, you really put the boot in with that pun, arseblog

Faym14

‘beef don’t want none,
so don’t start none,
You’re just a small player in this game,
play your part son.’

50 cent

Unnecessarilystupid

Great, thanks.

Double98

Ipswich would a good loan
Wellington’s for the Tractor Boys.

But i hope he plays for us and scores 30 Goals next season and the last one takes off john terrys head on route to the goal.

Mark Hughes

Can’t the first one take off John Terry’s head? Why do we have to wait until the end of the season?

gooner 44

patience is a virtue
john terry is a cunt

Ormey88

Meh. If Coquelin’s taught us one thing, it’s that you can never rule anyone out.

Good luck to the lad.

Cliff Bastin

If only he was named Paddington Silva.

glory hunter

Just stick to being a legend Cliff
Making funnies is clearly not your forte 🙂

Merlin's Panini

I reckon he could cut it on a rainy monday night in Stoke.

Bendtner's Ego

Stoke now shop in the Barca rummage bins during the off-season and rumour has it that Mark Hughes taught Charlie Adam to eat with a knife and fork.

I’m afraid Mr. Silva will have to look elsewhere.

Stillmatic

Ah, I see arseblog has once again decided to “Coquelin” a player; completely right them off based not on actual witnessing of players, but on stats and circumstances instead. To claim he’s loan has been “underwhelming” has been categorically untrue and hugely unfair. You really shouldn’t make a review of a player’s season if you didn’t even bother to watch him. He played for a very sh*t side with little attacking ambition (and in many of the performances I saw, played like a “forward fullback” where it seemed his task was to track back and defend as much as possible)… Read more »

Damn you touchscreen and stupid autocorrect. That’s what I get for buying a Samsung windowsRT tablet (which automatically changes a word even if spelt correctly, a second after I’ve checked it and moved on).

Apologies for the grammar and spelling, guys. Shocking really. Algeria? Dafuq?

Rozza the samourai

Wellington will have Sanchez, Welbeck, Ramsey, Carzola, Ozil (if played on wing) and even Chamberlain, Theo Walcott (as attacking players) ahead of him. Unless he turns top top top class very soon, he has no future with Arsenal. Rosicky and Podolski couldn’t get in the team. Rosicky not even on the bench sometimes. That’s the situation.

Stillmatic

I bet you said the same about Coquelin too, right? Why don’t we just shut down the academy too? What with all those players in the way. Pointless naming all our wingers and potential wingers. Silva is a left winger, meaning the only people he realistically has in his competition are those who have played on the LW. How many is that? Sanchez is our predominate left-winger. Cazorla is probably our second choice. I highly doubt Wenger is going to be pushing Ozil out wife anymore, and with Jack being left-footed, he is a realistic LW. All the others you… Read more »

Was Wenger playing Campbell when the squad was depleted by injury ? He was playing other players out of position.

Stillmatic

That’s because of Campbell himself.
People make their minds on a player based on what little they see or don’t see.

“Oh I haven’t seen Silva play. He didn’t score a goal? can’t be good then”

“I saw Campbell score an excellent goal in the World Cup, so I’m just going to overlook every performance after that game, including this loan at Villarreal where I didn’t see him once, and still hold on to the idea that he’s the next Eto.”

SB

Of them how many are genuine wingers?!

He is! Not saying he is going to make it, with us. However it would be very useful to have a good winger.

Andy Mack

I just love the way we have fuckwit fans that know a guy isn’t good enough without seeing them play…….

Bumpy Bear

So in other words our club really need to learn how to set terms when they loan a player out. Not ideal for us if loan clubs keep playing our players in different positions than where we intend to use them.

glory hunter

You make a good point blogs but im sure Arsene will at the very least give him a chance to impress in pre-season.
Think about it, we’ve given players like Miyiachi, Bischoff & Sanogo a chance in recent seasons.

I think under Arsenes tutelage he could blossom, well i hope so anyway, ive been telling my mates about him for the last 4 years 🙁

King Kolo

Wellington has not been given a chance to have any solid displays yet. So that’s harsh. The Coquelin who gave solid displays for us still ended up playing for Freiburg and Charlton, without those ‘solid’ displays no way would anyone rate him. The fact is in a much better side I dare say even Denilson would look good. We need world class players as well as giving a player who has changed continents at 17, played for a different team every year for 5 years, none for the manager who bought him, now seemingly out of position a chance. Why… Read more »

Stillmatic

Didn’t matter much with the likes of Botelho and Samuel Galindo.

Stillmatic

It’s easy to back pedal on Coquelin now, but you were very different even in January. Back then even his first few good performances were followed with caveats of “good but surely not good enough for Arsenal”. Even then, you were quick to point out his failed loan at Freiberg, without any context, like you’re doing now for Silva. The simple fact is you’ve made your impression of Silva not based on actually watching him have you not? You state to everyone his season was “underwhelming” and that isn’t based on watching him play, but probably a quick glance and… Read more »

Mein Bergkampf

He has five star skills on FIFA. Is Wenger aware of this?

andre santos

lol

Rohith J

He was better than Walcott in my FIFA 12.

Forfuckssake

Just reminds me of a Tony Adams tackle “well in Ton” very quick exit

mersons coke dealer

Steve mcmanaman is a wanker.

Devlin

I rate him highly too. He has really worked on his greatest weakness which was a lack of workrate and tracking back. He was really restricted at almeria, I watched them just to see him play and somehow he was being turned into a James Milner. He really has a lot of talent and offers a lot of protection for a fullback, he could give our right wingers a run for their money. He should be kept for depth and rotation purposes in my opinion.

Stillmatic

Agreed, in the times I saw him, I had to check my live feed app to see he wasn’t used as a fullback. And as you’ve mentioned, it’s ironic that he’s actually spent this season working on his biggest weakness; that of working hard and tracking back (his first few years he was basically shut down due to his lack of work ethic), yet for some reason Arseblog has decided to deride him on it. Honestly, he really is hugely talented. I could never understand how he would return back from his loans and during the pre-season with the academy,… Read more »

Mo

He’s not left footed sir, definitely right footed. Plays more like Chambo going forward and I hope to see him have a chance in the
PL next year. He should be an explosive addition to a lower tiered team.

Stillmatic

Indeed he is, sorry. It’s just lost on me as he’s very-footed and for that reason seems to have played predominantly on the left for all his professional career.

Stillmatic

Very 2-footed*

Lei

If this guy played in a team like Arsenal, he’d be just as good as, if not better than, say a Chamberlain for instance. You can’t juge a player based merely on statistics, or insinuate he had a bad season without having actually watched him play regularly. Each time I saw him play, I couldn’t help but think he’d thrive with better players around him in a different system, and playing his actual position. Unfortunately, he could not be afforded that at Almeria. I hope he at least gets the chance to prove himself with Arsenal.

The BearMan

Wellington has great talent n skills and has just overcame a rotten experience. Wenger ought to give him the opportunity to train and tour with the first team during the summer and play in the Emirates Cup tornament. The parent club ought to do this much before making a decision.

I believe he will shine, let’s hope Wenger will not be to busy looking in the opposite direction. Kane and Afobe are cases to bear in mind.

adriano

Yeah arseblog, I agree with some of the people above who have seen him play. I’ve always been impressed with his technical skill and speed, now with the work rate he showed this season I think the time is right for him.
I’ve been more excited about him than joel for a while now, so let’s just see what happens.
The underhanded comments negating his chances, and this attitude of “prove me wrong ” is quiyw annoying from arseblog (about other players too) . Why not be more optimistic about our young players/loanees..

Stillmatic

Agreed.
As I’ve stated before and on many occasions, I’m generally not a fan of arseblog when they/he starts to do that passive-negative thing he does to specific players for whatever reason. Just don’t see the point in doing that.

adriano

Also his skill set would be pretty unique for our squad. A pure winger wholikes to get to the by-line, who’s flashy skills would even be above alexis(excitement is still important in the game). Other than maybe gnabry and ox, we have no one similar to him at all.
In the league as a whole, he would be pretty unique actually.

assistantref

There’s a reason out and out wingers are rare in the PL right now. It’s not some conspiracy. I am not trying to be critical of him or your comment, just pointing out that the pure winger doesn’t really have a place in the formations most teams play these days. It’s hard to see one having a place in the Arsenal team, especially with Wenger talking about the need for another player who can chip in with 10-15 goals a season.

Ernstein

I say give him a chance come next season, his potentials are not in doubt! Convinced with what I saw of him last season that we just might have another ALEXIS in our hands!!!

Aboriginal Arsenal

Wellington boot up the Arseblog.

Goonerestgooner

That Stillmatic certainly told you Blogs.
What does surprise me is he didn’t pick up on you saying Wellington is the 67th best Silva in Brazil, when clearly he is at least 58th.

阿拉伯

If there is a space in the squad, maybe bring him back 2016 to keep Gabriel company?

OD

Blogs you always seem condescending when it comes to no. Of goals scored. Ok I’m saying this in relation to your regular comments about Campbell on loan. He didn’t score a lot and he’s a forward player, fair enough but his performances have actually been pretty decent. This is based on what I have seen myself, watching him play for villareal. He has been an ever present since he settled. I just felt I had to say something especially when he was given the same season rating as sanogo someone who barely added any thing to palace. In conclusion please… Read more »

Lei

He certainly has the potential to play for the Arsenal. Very hard to shine when you play with donkeys! And like Ox, Welbeck or even Walcott showed, goals are not easy to come by at that young an age, especially when the quality of players around you is so poor. Also not his fault he’s been shifted around by Arsenal since he was only 17 with no family in Europe. But as much as I can tell, he has very well grown up and matured from that experience. He is a hard worker and definitely has the talent to play… Read more »

Stillmatic

Neither did Welbeck, and we still bought him for £16mil, haha.

OD

Hats off too Stillwater, Adriano and Lei, I hadn’t even read your comments. I feeling exactly the same way in terms of blogs (passive negative) treatment to certain players.

(wellington, theo, Joel, Coquelin (prev.) Diaby e.t.c.)

Stillmatic

No one could foresee they he would make it, but many many MANY of us who had seen him play even on loan and especially at academy level knew Coquelin was good enough. Heck even in this very site there were many of us (i included) earlier in the season asking and making it clear we didn’t understand why Flamini was ahead of Coquelin. If you try and deny that, go to any player review in the month of January to read our comments there, where we were also quick to call you out on what seemed like a constant… Read more »

OD

I guess, but I feel sometimes players just need to settle for a bit to find that rhythm (e.g. Sturridge, Afobe, even Diego costa..)

It’s just that your comments on certain platers feel a bit personal, I could be wrong I no but that just how I felt.

OD

Ahh autocorrect, apologies for the numerous errors.

Gooneron

Well this was one divisive post blogs. Glad to see sober arguments and counter arguments

bdotm

Never seen blogs so engaged in a single post. It’s the classic glass is either half-full or half-empty cliché which explains both sides of the argument. There’s preseason(which includes the Emirates cup) and there’s the league cup during the season. Wellington will have chances. We’ll see about this one

Stillmatic

This in a nutshell. That’s all needs to be said about they boy. He may make it, he may not.
But he’ll have pre-season and cup appearances here and there to prove his worth.

He should be given that at least.

CB

I think his glass was almost empty and was about to be topped up again.

OD

Can I just point out that this truly is my favourite arsenal blog.

TheNicolau15

Come on guys, I can’t find playing time next season even for Gnabry, who are a much better player than Wellington.
And we already have Willock, Crowley (more a central player), Maitland-Niles and Iwobi at our ranks too. I just don’t see him playing for us in the near future, and I’m Brazilian, I know this guy.

It’s funny to me on how a lot of people make a point about some lad receiving a chance to play in the team, and, in the meantime, wanna see us signing some player like Reus/Draxler too.
