Arsene Wenger has talked up the potential of the youth players at the club, and referenced the debut of new boy Jeff Reine-Adelaide.
The French youngster caught the eye with some funky moves when he came on this afternoon, leading the Arsenal manager to declare him something a bit out of the ordinary.
“Rene-Adelaide is something special you know,” he said. “He is a great talent and when he came on you could see that – 17 years old let’s not forget that. In fact I don’t remember how I played at 17 but I didn’t play like that!”
He also had praise for Alex Iwobi who scored Arsenal’s third and looked promising all day.
“Akpom had chances,” he said. “Isaac Hayden can play too. It is good we have these types of games as we see our young players.
“It is exciting to work with these players. You can imagine how they will look in two or three years for the club. That is always exciting.”
🙂
Here’s one to roll back the years. I’m sitting here crying like a bitch watching this . We often under appreciate Wenger, we really do. Here’s hoping we can go back to our winning ways this season. http://youtu.be/Uy4jY-T7-BI
I actually feel a bit sick with nostalgia…. thanks for sharing that and stirring some old memories.
The future looks bright, the future is red and white. If we sign a world class striker. We will win the CL and PL this season. You heard it here first.
Your poem kind of tails off a bit towards the end there
He rarely gives that sort of high praise to young players – only the ones who were nailed on to make it, really. So that’s exciting.
Reine-Adelaide was electric and oozing confidence.
New signing or not, 17 or not, I am sure we are going to see him feature again this season.
Great day for all the youngsters.
that 2nd kit looks a bit orange
“The Future’s Bright” ??
I tip my fedora to whoever comes up with Jeff Reine-Adelaide’s chant.
“I bless the Reines down in Adelaide”?
No?
Hahahahaha that was good
It’s Reine Adelaide!
Halleluja, its Reine Adelaide!
To “It’s raining men”. Should work perfecly with french pronunciation of his name.
rainy adelaide, adelaide
rainy adelayy’d
Adeldee the day we say …….
adeldee the day, we…….
adeldee the day, we ……
adeldee the day …… …….
?:O
M’Gooner
“It’s Reine-Adelaide, halleluja, it’s Reine-Adelaide!”
To It’s raining men.
Jeff will Reine
on your parade
in Adelaide …
Looking forward to seeing them all in the league cup – hopefully we’ll get a better run this season (in that competition).
Happy Hayden got a chance.
I wonder if he’ll be reverted back to DM and become the competition cover?
Imagine having those two hone grown players looking after the DM spot !
I know the coq isnt English but he’s been with us for years since his mid teens
A strike force of Iwobi, Akpom and Rene-Adelaide in the credit card cup… I’d be okay with this.
Big Jeff says dogs can’t look up.
Amazing little sleight of foot by R-A at one point. Whetted the appetite…
he reminds me of Anelka when he first broke into the first team
To me, youngsters breaking through this season is secondary; the primary target has to be the league and you need established players to do that these days. When we’ve won it, we can now look to the next generation who will now have a winning team to learn from. This is what Barcelona do all the time.
No, you’re right. We’re silly for being excited about having a talented group of young players coming through.
So, tell me…what do Barcelona’s fans do in regards to how they support their club? I’d really like to know because I think I’m going wrong somewhere…
Also, thanks for highlighting the fact that the primary target is the league. All these years I thought it was just about…well…I’ll admit it, I had no idea what the primary target was! I’m still getting to grips with the offside rule!
The target from 2006-2013 was the fabled “4th place trophy”.
The only time we were very close to winning it was 2008…so yeah manny has a point.
Get over it FFS.
It’s remarkable we did so well given how little we had to spend compared to the hundreds of millions available to Chelsea and the Manchesters.
We’ve got a shiny new stadium, a shiny new team, and a shiny new future. What more do you want?
And where did i say we didn’t?? i was answering his question, but as usual you’ve wetting your pants because my point was too negative despite it being the truth.
Our aim during those years was to qualify for the top 4, not win the league. whether you believe it or not.
Yawn
Have you ever posted anything with even just the slightest hint of positivity…or are you someone who needs something to grumble about, even when the going is good, just to feel contented in life? Not suggesting you should be over ott or unnecessarily positive….just don’t recall you ever posting anything that hasn’t been negative. In truth, we massively over-achieved in that period! You can pretend that we’re a shit club with a shit manager if you like but you are way off the mark….. we’ve come a long way in the last 20 years and, unfortunately, that breeds spoiled ungrateful… Read more »
You are only confirming the point I’m trying to make…We overachieved in that era because no one was expecting us to win the league due to lack of funds. Our aim was the the top 4…get it??
Where did I say wenger was a shit manager?? He has made alot of mistakes because guess what? He’s human and not above criticism.
I give credit when its due and criticize when necessary. You can go check if you have the time.
I think, it was more the way you put it…. didn’t come across like you were celebrating it as a success, just seemed like more of the same to me. oh well
Don’t know why you’re getting thumbed down. Its not like he criticized Adelaide or something.
You’re getting thumbs down because you are a bunch of negative fucks. Something positive is posted and you can’t wait to shoot it down. For Christsakes, this it the most positive preseason we’ve had in years. Don’t know if you saw today’s result… Be positive, Godamn it, you’re supposedly a fan!
WHERE DID HE SHOOT ADELAIDE PEFORMANCE DOWN!!?!!
He made a very very valid point whether you like it or not.
I am shocked you call my post negative. Do you have an idea about what “secondary target” is? Please read the post again and look at the choice of words. Youngsters breaking through IS A TARGET but only secondary (not our chief) pursuit. Where is the negativity in the post? Secondly, Barcelona keeps winning because the first team keeps winning. As young players grow into the team, they embrace a winning culture not a team battling for CL qualification. There is this story of Ryan Giggs introducing Welbeck to any new signing some years ago: he placed one arm on… Read more »
Its like any post that doesn’t say “nanananana giroud” or “go hfb” or “john terry is a cunt” are “too negative”.
It’s ridiculous. The funny thing is these same people will tell you to “grow up” but they’re sooo “mature” that being objective is a crime to them and any fan who is negative.
Positive fans indeed.
I think what you’re failing to grasp is this is an article about a young player who has made an impression. It doesn’t say anything about ‘forget the league, let’s just focus on young players’. So, I think most people here are irritated by the sheer futility of effectively telling people here to pipe down about young players, because it’s all about the league. Also, what added to the irritation (for me) was the statement “it’s what Barcelona do” (or something to that effect). Also, I think it’s fairly obvious to anyone who follows English football (let alone supporting Arsenal)… Read more »
Giving an opinion which isn’t ball licklingly positive is not necessarily classified as negative, it’s just ill educated codswallop, like a vast percentage of yours, which is shot down rapidly. Going back to Mannys original comment, I can see his point but disagree, nurture and then compliment with stars is how Barca have always done it and now we are in a position to do the same.
Please spare me your “voice of reason” nonsense…because i feel Giroud is not a world class striker, it becomes “ill educated codswallop”. How exactly are my “vast percantage of posts shut down rapidly”?? by saying i’m a negative fan or what?? Only CB, Andy Mack and Mpls are the ones who even though we have different opinions at least try to back up their arguments logically and with facts, not “the majority” like you who wet their pants because i don’t go “nanananana giroud” or say he’s better than benzema or deny that there was period we were no where… Read more »
I’m also a positive fan as positivity is in the definition of fan(atic). I agree that opinions are best backed up with facts/evidence and to convince most fans of something controversial that is needed.
Any personal stuff like ‘you’re wetting your pants’ or statements like ‘I’m right’ are unnecessary and antagonistic and unhelpful to your cause. If you are right just prove it.
Why do I always have to “click to see comment” for Trez’s comments?
And why do I bother to click them?
Arsepedant am I suppose to care or something??
Hope you remember what I told you to do if you have a problem with my comments?? Another wannabe “mature” moron.
CB if I get attacked, I will attack back. No seeing something that is black and say its white is not being positive.
Doesn’t get anyone anywhere.
If you are attacked then they have lost. You lose by attacking back, by sinking to their level.
State your honest opinion and your proof of it (Giroud is slow and only has one foot) and step back.
Does Bellerini look like the real deal or not or chamberlain. Buying seasoned players guarantees you nothing. Man city won nothing last year which youngster they used.
Let’s not get too hasty now. “buying seasoned players guarantees you nothing”. True, nothing guarantees anything, especially in football. It’s about probabilities, and it does improve probabilities of winning.
As for City? Sure they won nothing if you look only at last year. Look at the last 5 years and it’s a different story.
Disclaimer: I am in no way getting involved in the debate about secondary goals and academy players. Just highlighting that one extreme exaggeration doesn’t balance another.
They say sarcasm is the lowest form of wit
Wit, nonetheless. Quite rare in itself.
loved all of the above….peace, brothers! 🙂
Lol….yep!, made very enjoyable read…peace and love brothers!
Now I see why manure tried so hard to get him.
One of the advantages of having Wenger as coach.
Sorry, this is far too positive. You are becoming one of those ‘positive fans’.
Like all us Arsenal supporters.
No i say it as i see it. If its black, its black and vice versa.
I’m always and will always remain objective in my opinions/comments.
can’t deny the logic here! Black is certainly black…. And vice versa…. Ahem
‘Another wannabe “mature” moron.’
Not objective at all, a losing reply I am afraid.
What ever happened to lanky lad we purchased in the winter. Out of sight I completely forgot his name.
He needs a nickname urgently, no ways I’m saying that with a French accent every time he scores.
How about RA, as in the Egyptian god?
“And he’s away, could this win the champions league? RAAAAAAAAAA!!!”
Or, how about we just call him Jeff?
I am going with that…and I am calling Lord Williams “Dave”…
* sorry I meant Lord Harris..Dave Harris…
Brilliant! Simple like most things that are brilliant, like fuck developing a pen that writes in space, take pencil’s! RRRRRRAAAAAAAAAA is like the Ospina
And when he bemuses the oppo and puts them on their arse it could be lengthend to RRRAASSSSBBUMBACLAAT! I would love that
You’re trying too hard bruv. Relax
As I mentioned, I believe the markets are cyclical and we are coming to the end of an era with the likes of Zlatan, Lewandowski, Giroud, even Benzema and Higuain getting older. The next generation (Suarez aside) has yet to manifest itself or if they have yet to solidify their place. Difficult to judge say lacazette over one season although his movement is generally excellent. But Wenger has the option of waiting out a season till the next generation of strikers start to come clearer. Plus we have Iwobi, Akpom not to mention sanogoand this fellow also developing, like Pique… Read more »
100%.we have so much coming through that a purchase would have to be top notch. Who’s to say lacazette is better than some of our youngsters will be in a year or 2. Lewandowski level players are the only signings we should consider. For the first time in a long time our squad is big enough and quality
Plenty of useful height on Jeff too. Could develop into an old round striker.
If any of the youngsters are good enough to force their way into the first they will be massive talents. Such quality coming through the youth system can only benefit the first team.
Great promise, hopefully the bus parking monginho thug football will be replaced by jolly nice football at the top of the table this year, huzzah.
And winners medals for all at the end of the season followed by a slap up tea and sandwiches, hurrah say I as well
And an expensive song about another club.
Mainly thumbed you up for your name Captain! 🙂
All you need to see

Anyone know why people like zelalem and bielik weren’t even on the bench for the game?
We’ve a big squad and they’re only allowed 11 players on the pitch at one time, is my guess.
gwan queen adelaide
Why is Arsene looking at him like that?
Is it me or does arteta look out of place now? he seemedYesheo slow seeslownd outpaced. I will be worried if he alone is the cocs backup.
No its not you. Its been obvious since the 2013/14 season.
The only complaint I have is that fucking kit. Someone at Puma needs sacking.
The kit is fine. Perhaps you should go to the gym more often, Mr. Goonero?
The kit is horrible. What’s hard to understand about it is not so much that someone got paid tens of thousands of pounds to design it, but that someone else got paid tens of thousands of pounds to look at all the designs and say “Yep, that’s the one.”
it’s actually just both of you
We’ve completed the set: Jazzy Jeff the free-form footballer, Welbz the Fresh Prince of Lancashire, Santi as Carlton, Mertesacker as Philip Banks, Oxlaide-Chamberlain as Geoffrey. Wenger, always thinking ahead, what a visionary.
Personally I always liked Melbourne a bit better, but I suppose Adelaide is ok
Where is Rambling Pete?..
I know right?! I miss the rambling geezer and all his shambolic rambling.
