Crowley joins Barnsley on loan

Daniel Crowley has joined Barnsley on a 6 month loan deal.

The 17 year old will play with The Tykes until January in League One in order to fast-track his development.

The midfielder is very highly rated at Arsenal and rather than have him play at underage level this season, it’s felt that some first team football is what he needs to make the right kind of progress.

Barnsley head coach Lee Johnson said, “I’m delighted to welcome Dan on board. He is an exceptional and exciting talent who is very highly thought of at Arsenal and we are extremely pleased that we have been entrusted with his further development.

“This loan signing further evidences that Barnsley can persuade some of the country’s best young talent to come to us, even where there is stern competition. Undoubtedly, at just 17 years old, Dan is one of the best young players in his age group in Europe.

“Dan has genuine, top-level skill and quality. I am delighted Arsenal have chosen Barnsley to aid the development of this exceptional talent, as well as aiding us in our pursuit of promotion.”

It’s interesting to note they say they Crowley also had options in the Championship.

He becomes the second youngster to leave the club on loan in the last few days with Jon Toral’s move to Birmingham confirmed, while Isaac Hayden is expected to join Hull on a season-long deal sooner rather than later.

Good luck to all of them.

Good luck! I have high hopes for Crowley

chippy's chip

Definately one to watch for. The kid is amazing.

lollo

This kid is destined to have a great future . just hope its with us !
And I hope he doesn’t get lumps kicked out of him in that division

Goondalf

Nice words from Barnsleys manager!
Having high hopes for the lad

Rohith J

Surprised to see him join a League One club. Surely a Championship team would have been better? Don’t know what that means for how he’s rated. Or it could also mean that we may have more incomings into the youth team and push for promotion.

Daft Aider

Think he’s being eased into action, from youth/reserves to championship is a big step,
as long as he gets plenty of game time this could work out very well

Me So Hornsey

League 1 didn’t turn out too badly for Coquelin.

Witoldo

Except Charlton were in the Championship last season.

Andy Mack

And he’s played in the top division in France and Germany the seasons previously.

gunnergav

The lad is still only 17!

Tibetan Gonner

Good Luck

DialSquareGoon

It would be nice to get a list of all the players we’ve loaned out and the reapective clubs…

Andy Mack

It’s usually on the club web-site.
I haven’t checked but if it isn’t, it will be soon.

Eltonsam

Good for him.
Bright Future…

Rossi88

Would have loved him at MK dons to keep an eye on him. Also done afobe a favour. Barnsley it is…..are they any good?

WengersNoseHair

Good. I wonder what the plan for Zelalem is now, surely a loan too?

goonmam

Whispers of Ipswich apparently

Tshaka the gooner

Hope all goes well. A bit worried for Gnabry it’s now or never for him

RoyKeane'sBeard

Now or never? don’t forget the kid’s only 19!

santori

I think Gnabry may feature first team this season. he is present at practise. Its a question of recover for him. Campbell is a different issue. If a good offer comes in he/we will consider it due to his age. If not, he will be in similar situation to Coquelin last season. With Gnabry/Campbell we are complete on the flanks. There is no reason to believe neither will improve this season. So we have a very healthy squad with depth an option across. Interesting to note in most positions we have a senior option over 25yrs and a younger option.… Read more »

Stillmatic

Wellington Silva has more of a chance than Campbell tbh.

Akpom, Crowley, Hayden, Zelalem, Bielik, Iwobi and Adelaide could all benefit from going out on strong loans this season.

Gnabry and Campbell are ahead of them in terms of experience and development.

Andy Mack

I think ‘Jeff’ needs to spend his first season at AFC in the reserves to understand the AFC approach/training etc.
Then go out on loan (assuming he’s not 1st team).

Paul

Excellent news…but let’s beat Maureen on Sunday!
