Arsenal have confirmed that both Theo Walcott and Santi Cazorla have signed new contracts.
Walcott, who signed from Southampton in January 2006, is believed to have penned a four-year-deal worth £140,000 a week that will see him further extend his stay as the club’s longest serving player.
The 26-year-old is also the club’s current leading scorer with 76 goals and he’ll no doubt be looking to add to that tally this term having shaken off the knee problem that ruled him out for the best part of a year.
News of Cazorla’s extension comes as a very welcome surprise. The Spaniard, who had been under contract until July 2017, has been an influential presence at the Emirates since moving from Malaga in 2012 and was pinpointed earlier in the summer as Arsene Wenger’s player of the season for the last campaign.
The 30-year-old had been linked with a return to Spain in June – Atletico Madrid were said to be sniffing around – but he’ll now look to build on the 148 appearances he’s made at the Emirates.
Speaking about the new deals, the boss told Arsenal.com: “We’re delighted to have extended the contracts of Santi and Theo. Both are top quality players who are hugely important and influential to our squad.
“As well as their huge contributions on the pitch, they both have a great deal of experience and are very popular off the pitch. We’re very pleased with them both signing contract extensions, as it provides our squad with further stability of quality.”
Arseblog News is absolutely delighted by both deals…let’s hope the duo can push the club to further silverware in the coming years.
So Dean on Twitter was right about Walcott, that’s great, but Cazorla signing a new deal is a nice surprise!
BBC says Walcott’s is a four-year deal.
https://twitter.com/BBCSport/status/627071588094083075
Great news! but not sure if Walcott is worth £140k a week…
He is not on the same level as Ozil and Sanchez – but would love it if he could change that and score 20+ goals this season and stays injury free.
Or our second best player Cazorla (after Sanchez but on par with Koscielny)
Not sure he’s worth that myself, but as a top club you have to pay top money too. It’ll be a matter of time before Ozil and Sanchez hit the 200k/week mark when they extend their contracts (see what I did there?). And I really have no problem with that, we should be paying world club players, world club wages simple as that. When you look elsewhere and you see Rooney at 300k/week, and Yaya Toure as well it’s pretty criminal we don’t have any players breaking the 200k/week mark yet, at least not to my knowledge.
The data is out there, albeit not easy to find but from memory our average player earns more than most clubs in Europe – I think there were some surprising clubs paying less than us on average.
So while we have no-one on Rooney/Messi wages, some of their club mates would probably get a pay-rise by joining us.
Great news!! All is well in Arsenal land!! I fucking Love it .All news nowadays seems to be good news. I really don’t know what the other posters are quibbling about.
Happy days, great news. Now bring on the feckin chavs and smash the cunts and send them back to the bridge afraid, very afraid.
Right he was.
But doubt it was some ITK thing, more like Theo was expected to sign a new contract, so why not take the chance and say something. And then get a reaction exactly like this one when he does. Risky move, but smart.
Dean is actually pretty reliable. He’s proven that through the years.
Dean says plenty of things that end up wrong;
don’t start believing these ITK’s are the messiah every time they get something right………
Theo could could become our record top scorer if he has a Decent 3-4 seasons
He’ll be needing 50+ goals a season then.
Great for both!!! We don’t have to worry about Theo joining one of our rivals or Santi returning to Spain!!
It is great for both, but is it great for Arsenal that we’re paying Walcott £140k per week? I mean, this is a guy who regularly misses large portions of every season with injury, and isn’t really an automatic starter.
Baffles me. Honestly.
The extra TV money has to go somewhere and we all know it’s not going to be used to lower ticket prices.
Compare this to what Man City are paying a 20-year-old, largely unproven Sterling, and it becomes more understandable.
they are very fair points, but I just can’t get my head around giving Walcott that type of money. We all know that on his day he is a great asset to have, but dear me is he inconsistent. For me his time with us has been filled with injury and inconsistency along with some shining moments. Does that get 140k/week at the moment?
I don’t think a comparison with City is fair at all. They are operating with pretty much an unlimited budget and can pay benchwarmers over £200k/week if they want. We can’t, and shouldn’t.
I just don’t know what kind of message this sends to the other players at the club who start week in and week out, and actually deliver the goods on a consistent basis…but are now far below (or at par) with a player who has had really only one good season at the club.
Like I said. Baffling.
It’s not baffling. It’s a lot of money but this is an English player coming in to his prime that has consistently scored goals whenever he’s played. Having been with us so long to let him go to another club now to fulfil his potential would be utterly foolish, he’s worth the money no question.
Sure, but you leave out the part about his terrible injury record and that he’s not a nailed on starter by any means.
Theo is a massive part of how Arsenal play. He gives us an option in attack that no one else in squad provides. Outright pace. Without him, teams have squeezed us up the pitch and made us look ordinary. If this £140k is correct, he is worth every penny, especially as he qualifies as a home-grown player, coming into the best years of career.
Look…..I don’t give a fish’s tit about the money, it won’t affect my weekend spending!
But having Walcott in our squad will affect my enthusiasm!
Ohhhhh SantiCaWalcott!…
Coat gone. 🙂
When the so called English premium is brought into the equation, it becomes not that baffling. We are supposed to have a fixed number of English players, why not ensure that those are quality English players? There really are very few better English players than Theo. Those who are better than him are either too expensive (Rooney, Terry) or truly despicable twats(hmm. Ok then.. Rooney, Terry).
Yes, I suppose that’s true.
Don’t get me wrong. I would have been disappointed to see him sign for another English club, so I’m glad he’s staying. I’m just quibbling with the wages — even if for an Englishman — for a player whose contributions don’t exactly match up.
If we’d offered him less wages he could well have been signing for another team now. You pay the money to secure the player, just like in any other job where professional skills are involved.
Yep, we have the three best English players who aren’t turds: Theo, Chamberlain & Wilshere. It’s worth keeping things that way.
He’s the longest-serving player at the club, he has an excellent goalscoring record when fit, and he seems to still be getting better and better.
They are high wages, yes. But the club can afford it. And given the club can afford it, the morale benefits are worth it.
The deflation of seeing him go to Man City or Liverpool would have hurt a lot more than the maybe 40k a week we’re overpaying him.
Dont forget Kieran Gibbs also!!!
On the other hand, who gives a flying fuck whether it’s 100k or 140k. This is just what footballers make at top clubs, and we can do it, so it’s a sign we’re not a miserly club anymore. I can live with that!
As I’m now coming around to making peace with the wage issue, I think it’s also worth considering how angry we’d be if we let Theo go to a rival over an extra £40k per week. The narrative would have been all about how we continue to sell our stars, etc. Walcott is a luxury player (in that he may not start all that much in any given season–either though injury or for tactical reasons–but he’s a goalscorer, and he scares defenders), and I think more than anything, the positive takeaway here is that we are now a club that… Read more »
You play hard to convince but finally had your self convinced all the same. What a great gooner!
Woooooo, good time to be a goooner!
Ps wenger out out
Brilliant! Off topic- I don’t get people saying we need another DM. Coquelin has showed his worth and should (and will) be given the nod as 1st choice. Chelsea won the league with Obi Mikel and 19 year old – Center Back Zouma as Matic’s replacements. With all due respect, i would take a slow Arteta over a reckless and irresponsible Obi Mikel anyday. So saying that if Coq gets injured we’re F**** applies for Chelsea as well with Matic, and they haven’t brought in any new DM so why should we be worried?
You said that already. Go stand by the water cooler.
People make replies like you just did when A. they have nothing useful to add to the comment.
B. filled with hate so they need to put others down. And since it doesn’t seem like you wrote it as a ‘in good taste’ joke, you’re probably both A and B.
and so your reply becomes a paradox.
Ouch! 🙂
You’re comment was full of ridicule and contempt trying to put me down and nothing else really (hence why i said you added nothing useful to the comment meaning you didn’t address the content of my comment at all, just tried to mock me). Was not trying to put you down back, but point out to you your mean behavior which never leads to anything good.
Some people are just mean.
“If you’re really a mean person you’re going to come back as a fly and eat poop.” – Kurt Cobain
No offence, but you’re aware you just contradicted yourself right? Chelsea won the league with Matic, and then back up in Mikel and Zouma, who are all battling DMs who protect the back 4 whilst being physically imposing and capable of closing down opposition. I’ve felt for 2-3years that Zouma shows great signs of being a future star, and that doesn’t mean he isn’t already showing glimpses. If Coquelin, who really has been a revelation, gets injured we’ll have to rely on a deep-lying playmaker who’s in his mid-thirties. Whilst Arteta has been great for the club if Coq gets… Read more »
I kinda get his idea though. we could play chambers there also. Being 4th choice centerback wouldn’t get him much game time. so playing him there would make sense.
It was just he named three battling DMs at Chelsea, and then one for us, and then acted like we’re in the same boat, which clearly we aren’t. After all, when Coquelin’s nose got smashed up last season, Arsene knew he still had to play him as he was by far the best option. Surely the boss knows, and if he would pick a Coq with a bust beak over another option it shows even Arsene isn’t confident in others. Did you see Calum play DM last season? He may be an option in the future, but he’d need a… Read more »
Chambers would be a “throw him in and hope” option. It would only work if he had the same effect on the team as Coquelin has had, which is unlikely if he hasn’t played in that position before.
I think we would all love a Coquelin Clone, but I doubt there are many out there, If there were then we would be battling United for them at this very moment.
A Coquelin clone?
Wouldn’t it be just great to have two Coqs.
No doubt Obi Mikel and Zouma are both much more imposing than Arteta and Flamini but that’s not the most important attribute for a DM. Obi Mikel is prone to reckless mistakes while Arteta might be slow and considerably weak but he is responsible in possession. Neither are good enough options of course, but just pointing out to the fact that Chelsea won the league with a mediocre replacement for Matic.
True, but it’s also about having the players around the missing individual know how to cover those deficiencies. When Matic was out both Cahill and Terry were more pressing, Fabregas played deeper, most of Chelsea’s squad are prepared to play ugly when needed. And correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Chelsea stutter quite badly when Matic was out? Despite Arteta’s and Mertesacker’s fantastic leadership and game reading there is a notable lack of pace between them, which often pulls Kos out of position or over works him, especially if Debuchy or Bellerin are playing high up. Coquelin addresses these… Read more »
I just don’t like buying when we have a quality academy product in Coquelin. Both Bender’s will want to be 1st choice and they deserve it as well, especially Lars. Busquets? obviously 1st choice and can’t see it happening. A young player like Rabiot/Samper would be fine by me but i don’t want to see a big name that will take Coq’s place. That’s why i didn’t want Schneiderlin, no doubt he’s quality but it wouldn’t be fair to both. They both deserve to be 1st choice at their clubs. I just really want to see soon a trio of… Read more »
Thats all well and nobel but the bottom line is signing lars bender would considerably improve our squad so if we can we should. There is no guarantee it will end coqs game time. I see no difference between signing lars and signing cech and you can play them both at once if you need to. No need to ship off to roma
When a world class player that will improve your team is available, you buy him(eg Cech, Ozil 2 seasons ago). Simple as that.
As more Rabiot/Samper, i wouldn’t mind having them as well. They both have the ability to surpass Coq(Samper especially).
Making Coq automatic first choice without competiton will be bad in the long run. He might get too complacent and for all we know, who is to say his last 6 months was not a fluke(not saying it is)
@crew I understand and admire your sentiments but we’ve done that (put too much faith in youth and inexperience) for years now, and it just isn’t enough to challenge for the PL from August to May, unfortunately. Balance is key. We’ve been so ruthless in some roles of late I don’t see why we shouldn’t be at DM too. I thought between Szczesny and Ospina we had a solid balance, but bringing in Cech not only improves us it gives all three GKs a chance to improve and strikes fear into our rivals. Santi has been incredible for us, and… Read more »
I’m replying to your most recent comment (the longest). I agree with pretty much everything you wrote – Ozil, injuries, importance of improvements, Coq’s inexperience etc. Last summer i prayed for Wenger to sign Lars Bender. I think he’s a brilliant, tactical player with endless energy and good vision and passing range. Really hope Coq keeps showing how good he can be even if it means through competition with a player coming in. Though really until Wenger makes a move (or doesn’t) it doesn’t matter what we think since he makes the calls and so far seems like he thinks… Read more »

Sorry I laboured my point there, got carried away and ended up creating a thousand word headache of a comment. I’m a bit obsessed with details, which can be a bit boring/OTT for many.
You’re absolutely right, whatever we think/hope for is meaningless as AW is calling the shots, all we can do is wait and see what happens.
Enjoyed the little debate/speculation though mate, cheers!
Crew and Gene sitting up a tree k. i. s. s. i….:-)
Intelligent conversation on the internet??? It’ll explode if you keep doing that.
Agreed Gutt that’s why I tried to end it with my post!! 🙂
Haha everyone loves a happy ending …
Mikel is as responsible with possession as Arteta if not more. He is criticized for not being adventurous and “passing sideways”.
Look Arteta of 11/12 and 12/13 was probably one of the best DLP/dm in the league. But he has lost his legs no thanks to past injuries sustained.
Absolutely, Arteta’s contribution was downplayed for so long, his tackle % was phenomenal whilst his pass accuracy was superb. Due to injuries and age he’s had to become more reserved, he’ll stick in front of the CBs and usually hope the opposition come to him, whereas Flamini is happy to chase to the sides, Coq can put pressure on marauders and the flanks but knows his strengths and as such his positioning is often sublime, he basically plays both Arteta’s and Flamini’s roles by cautioy helping the flanks but constantly dropping back to cover and fill gaps. Without Coq we… Read more »
Arteta has not been great for the club.
I disagree. I think he’s been a hugely important part of building us up from the shambles we were when we joined to the point where we sign players like Ozil and Alexis.
He was one of the biggest reasons we remained a top 4 club, he led the team on and off the pitch. Even now, when he’s getting less game time, he helped inspire the team to a second FA Cup in 2years.
Whether people still see him as a first team contender or not it really frustrates me that some folk are willing to ignore his contribution since joining. Intelligent player, great role model, no contract hassles, I remember when many were hoping he would qualify for the England team. People are so quick to forget…
You fotgot Ramires!
He’s box-to-box or right sided, more like our Ramseys and Wilsheres.
Maybe officially I think…
His sthength was always his dinamism and tackling in my opinion, while Ramsey and Wilshere are much more players who like to build up the attack with passing/key passes and creativity…
(even if they can also contribute to defending)
Fair point, Ramires can certainly do a job there, that’s why they bought him I think, he’s versatile, but as soon as Jose reclaimed Matic it seemed to signify Ramires’ move to other positions. Even when Matic was out Jose was more likely to play Mikel or Zouma there, Ramires doesn’t seem keen on holding a position, which at DM is risky. That and ST were the difference between Chelsea’s 2013/14 season and their title-winning 2014/15 season. As much as I hate them, it does prove what a difference those two roles make, especially given we currently seem to echo… Read more »
Exactly @Gene. This is what i’ve been trying to say on here. If we get a world class striker, I guarantee you we’ll come nothing less than 2nd place barring a horrific series of injury. We have a midfield that most strikers dream of playing with. As for the case of dm with chelsea, i think Cesc coming in had more of an impact than Matic. Mikel obi could do the job of patrolling in front of the defence and recycling possession, but it didn’t/doesn’t fit how mou wants to play(No coincidence that his best season at chelsea was arguably… Read more »
Our luck with injuries is way worse than Chelsea’s..If u have been following our club for the past 10 years u should know that.
True but Hopefully the Arsenal medical staff will take care of it this season.
It seems to be doing well in regards to muscle strains etc, but some injuries are unavoidable. The best medical team in sport wouldn’t have kept poor Eduardo’s foot intact, or Ramsey’s shin and so on. We play wonderful football, so much so it frustrates opposition into hugely reckless challenges, our meds can be perfect but we’ll still get the odd horror injury sadly. Every season we say “no injuries this season and the leagues ours!”, but it’s professional sport played by humans, the only true way to be prepared is to have depth.
We do not need a DM this summer. We could do with one but we are covered if not. Coquelin is going to improve and could get better than Matic. Arteta is a better less risky option to ObiMikel Flamini is a much better player than given credit for and equal to Ramires. Zouma is not a proper DM. We have Ramsey/Santi covering in event. We play differently from Chelsea in any case and need our covering player to be in general more articulate. Chelsea tend toward a blunt instrument. It would be better if we could find a future… Read more »
@santori I’m sorry but I’m not sure I’d compare Ramires to Flamini, but if were to I’d say Ramires is a much better footballer. Zouma is a CB by trade yes, but if you saw him at DM last season he wasn’t even remotely out of place in a different role. Our playing style is exactly why a DM who battles is more important to us than most. Last season we struggled, our defence was over-exposed in the first half of the season. We brought back Coquelin and everything improved. And it’s important to continue to improve, not stagnate, so… Read more »
@Crew Let me try and analyze what you said. A)You say that we need not get a DM because chelsea won with a couple of them last season. B)Chelsea’s DM situation is the yardstick for Arsenal’s DM situation While i appreciate the fact that you are okay with internal solutions(Arteta,Flamini & co) there is nothing wrong in buying a top quality player in ANY position provided we do it at the right amount and the player is of Arsenal’s calibre. At the end of the day regardless of who plays we get behind the team. Let everyone speculate. I suggest… Read more »

All the eloquently put tactical comments made today and you come up with that? …….Well, nice one regardless and a thumbs up from me! 😉 lol
Oi I see you are back Paul! Nice post though…
I guess it must have happened. Seriously though, buzzing.
Great work by the club. Theo on a 4 year deal means we’ll not have to worry about any more damn ‘signing da ting’, and Santi with an extra 2 years is really quite splendid!
Haha, I almost forgot the title of the post.
Really hope we win the league and Theo scores 20+ in the league.
YES!
Yes!!!
This is great news. It further indicates that we are no longer a selling club. So here is to the future and more titles. Oh and a big fuck you to chelski this weekend.
Dat ting is now signed!
Absolutely great that Theo and Santi have signed dat thing. Just a bit bemused that Theo is now on Sanchez/ Ozil wages: http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/20893347
Doubtful that he is!
To be fair his loyalty to the club through such a long period while around the influence of ‘all of them’ needs to be rewarded.
It was when he was made the highest paid player (or 2nd highest behind PodolskI) at Arsenal in 2013.
He faded away after he signed the contract, and then was injured for almost the rest of the period till now.
I am absolutely glad that he has signed, but the wages he has gotten are ridiculous especially given his injury record. Nevertheless other clubs offer their players this much if not more so I suppose we have to as well.
I agree with you — so happy that Theo is staying with Arsenal….but I also balked at that salary. Not a 140k/week player.
“You might get injured so we’ll just pay you twenty quid a week, OK Theo?”
I don’t think so.
He may be good at negotiations but he can’t be THAT good. If anyone deserves ozil/sanchez money it’s santi.
Thank the Homegrown rule and English premium… Credit to him for not going and getting 175 a week at City.
Theo said earlier on he felt it would get done. To me comments in between such as the much bandied ‘if it happens…’ were just him not getting into the media circus.
STABILITY!!
I am loving this period of sustained squadnocity….
lets go and win the league!!
“Squadnocity” really does need to get into the OED.
Love this club. Increasingly seems our players do too.
140k a week reported by the BBC seems a little too much to be honest
Especially considering his injuries
Exactly!. Theo has ALOT to prove this season. Anything less than 20 goals will be unacceptable(if he doesn’t get injured that is and if we don’t sign another striker).
It happened :p
Some may question the pay rise. But everyone wants to be paid as much as they possibly can in their job. He didn’t make noise publicly to stir things up or cause his position to be untenable – like RVP did. he was becoming a very dangerous asset for us before he did his knee in against Sp*rs in the FA cup. Him sitting in that stretcher holding up the 2 – 0 sign to the away fans was awesome. I think if he stays fit he can prove his doubters wrong. It’s now up to him to prove his… Read more »
Looking at it the other way round – I think paying him 140k shows that AW is willing to be pragmatic to keep good players at the club. Definitely encouraging that he now seems willing to do what it takes to win the league.
I think you will find it’s actually able not willing. If you listen to him he will tell you that.
The hand sign alone surely has to be worth 20K a week.
He does not deserve parity with Ozil and Sanchez. He’s also British and at the right age, has performed inbetween his injuries (a very hard thing to do). We play in the same league as three of the wealthiest scumbuckets in world football and that and the TV deal have really skewed wages transfer fees and any definitions of value.
Still, Theo and Santi probably left money on the table to stay and that’s fucking excellent.
Arsene Wenger thinks he deserves parity, based, no doubt, on what he believes Walcott is capable of. That’s how contracts work. You pay what you have to pay to secure the players with the abilities and potential to do what you want them to do within your team setup. He’s worth whatever Wenger thinks he’s worth. Nobody else’s opinion counts.
Glad that they signed especially Santi
Crazy to think it’s 10 years in January since Theo signed, testimonial?
BBC are reporting that Theo’s new deal is on £140k a week! I wish my salary increases were by 40%
biggest waste of money from a club who shipped out likes of rvp nasri song ect jyst standing ground for a healthy wage structure, how in hell is walcott the highest earner on our ranks? ahead of sanchez? really??
Is he really ahead of Sanchez? That seems a bit wrong.
Parity means he is paid about the same amount, not more. That’s what he wanted. Wenger thought the price worth paying. Anyway, it really isn’t your, or our, money, this is TV money being spent, and better that we spend it on Walcott rather than Liverpool, or United, or Chelsea, or City spending it on Walcott.
Well it happened…
Currently doing the darts song and dance.
some reports that Theo’s image rights are included in the new deal and that is why he got such a high pay rise, the club makes a good chunk of it back having his image rights.
Santi said earlier this summer that he still had a 1+1 year contract, so if he has extended will it be 2+1 at the least,
great news that both have signed. I’d back theo to have scored his 100th AFC goal by end of this season.
Mind posting some links? Couldn’t find much
It happened, it happened
My dream of seeing Santi having a testimonial game, PL and CL medal at Arsenal is coming closer.
Also, Theo’s peak years at Arsenal is another great news but 140000 a week. Uhm.
Great news, although wages are questionable. Still, would rather have him here @ 140k than not at all.
Needs to score 20+ this season.
Great news!
Minor correction, think Santi joined from Malaga and not Villareal.
I get the feeling we’ll see him start up top this season.
If we start with HFB as CF then we’ll see TW swapping back and forth from side to side during a game as both a winger and an ‘inside’ forward. Later in the season when Alexis and DW are back then in games where HFB doesn’t start we’ll have 3 players that will rotate continuously during a game, which will really fuck up the CBs they’re playing against!.
Hopefully Walcott can stay fit and prove he’s worth that wage. If not then we’re now in a position to get a decent transfer fee. Strange one with him, not many players who earn 140k a week still have something to prove.
Never in doubt! 😉 So glad I can sport my Walcott #14 jersey for a few more years and that Santi the magician is staying!
He signs when he wants!
What a lovely day for our club, two top players signing extensions to stay with us and neither wanting to go to a rival, that whole 2007-2012 exodus really aged me by 10 years… I’m so glad were back, what a day to be a Gunner!
According to the BBC Santi’s deal is two years – so no increase in term. Assume better pay for his contribution and hopefully no release clause nonsense.
2+1 instead of 1+1?
Didn’t we Sign Cazorla from Malaga. He played with Villarreal and after they were relegated moved on to Malaga.
Correct. We got him (and Monreal) on the cheap because Malaga had financial issues.
Delighted that Santi has signed, but i’m equally as surprised. I thought we’d get one more year out of him before he leaves and one of Jack/Ramsey take his place. We all know Wilshere and Ramsey are going nowhere so this is another example of Wenger’s ruthlessness. How he will accommodate all of these fantastic players into the midfield remains to be seen. exciting times.
Didn’t we sign Santi from Malaga…?
Santi came from Malaga not Villarreal
Santi came from Father Christmas actually…:-)
A 140k per week is a little steep considering Alexis and Ozil are on the same wages. But I still am happy Theo is staying, hopefully he will prove his worth now. Regarding Santi I hope he stays for the next four years at least. Oh Santi Cazorla!
It seems like a lot, but wenger knows economics. Pay raises account for inflation. In four years that 140k a week seems more and more like the pay before the signing. He would actually see more like 110,000 a week.
Great news!…..apart from the fact that walcott is a top player that still has his peak years ahead of him, he is the longest serving arsenal player in the present squad and should be rewarded for such loyalty……sends out a message to the younger ones, if you stick by us, we will stick by you!, and pay you well for it. …plus, personally?… i really cant stand the thought of walcott wilshere, ramsey, gibbs etc playing for one of our rivals…feels like, dunno, …betrayal, sacriledge?….for example, up till now, everytime i see Fabregas in blue, i still get cheesed up!,… Read more »
Great news. Praying Theo has an injury free season his goal return could be crucial.
now lets sign up jack ,ramsey and the ox to new improved long term contracts , and we will be set to dominate for years to come
Absolutely awesome news, showing now we want to compete and not sell our best players. Santi is a Incredible talent and essential for us. Buzzing
Great news, but didn’t Santi move to us from Malaga?
Yes
This is crash course for the mug smashers on how to deal with contract rebels.
To be fair, we had some of those back in the days. The poos actually made a good deal selling Sterling, whereas we sold rvp for unspectacular sum to manyoo.
Actually, when you compare with the sale of sterling, the club made a very decent money by selling rvp. First, in the last three years the prices have skyrocketed (what was 25m back than would be like 40+ now). Second, rvp had absolutely no re-sale value (besides being shit for the second half of his time at utd), whereas city will easily get 20-30m for sterling in 3 years time even if he kind of flops.
If Sterling flops he’ll be sold for peanuts in 3 years time. They signed Rodwell for what, 20 million a few years ago, then moved him on for practically nothing?
Sterling has resale value only if he performs well. If he flops he’ll be sold for 10 million to some horrible team like Tottenham.
transfermarkt says that Rodwell was bought for 10.5 and sold for 8.82. Or take F. Luis, bought for 14, started only 9 league games (2 of those after they won the league), and sold for 11.2. Sterling would have to do full adebayor to be sold only for 10.
Great news… Brilliant surprise that Santi has extended too! Hope they will be crowned champions soon. Good luck to both of them.
So glad Santi signed a new deal. Would have hated seeing him go, he’s one of our favorites! can’t believe fans wanted Vidal, when we have someone like Santi at CM.
I think people wanted Vidal for the DM position which is unrealistic since he is simply not a DM, despite his defensive qualities. He has too much attacking quality to play as the holding mid (similar to Ramsey).
Just a question, it’s been puzzling me for ages. When people spell Cazorla with an unnecessary R before the Z, is it some kind of depraved joke sent to annoy folks who like things spelt correctly? Or are folks genuinely unclear on how to write his name?
I hope his agent checked at the top of his SHINY NEW CONTRACT! WOOP!
I propose we change his and Mesut’s name to Cözila when they finally morph into some kind of unstoppable, symbio-telepathic kaiju, with the power to blur space and time.
In my language the word carzola is much, much easier to pronounce and fits to your tongue very naturally, whereas Cazorla is quite awkward at first. In fact, I’ve tended to pronounce the name wrongly for quite some time – I didn’t even realized the name was different until I’ve started to spell it, unconsciously it was that obvious it should be carzola. Only then I’ve noticed how many people here spell it wrongly, so I guess it’s either the case also in other languages, or it comes naturally to a lot of other people, or both.
$140k?????? As much as Sanchez or Ozil?????? He better start fucking performing like Alexis and Ozil then…..
It does raise expectations of him, and I remain skeptical that he will deliver (based on how he performed after his last contract signing).
Come on, Theo. Show us you’re worth it. Stay fit and produce please.
I’m happy that Santi has signed a new contract, nice welcome surprise. However even though I’m happy about Walcott signing a new contract (as the thought of losing him for free was a sickening one), I’m still unconvinced by him. Yes we all know he has blistering pace and is an accomplished finisher but then he always has been yet I still has reservations about him and where he fits into the team. Last season barring the last game of the season and the FA cup final, he was awful. And yes I know he came back from Injury but… Read more »
Well said, and I echo your hopes.
nasri asked for a similar pay rise having one year on his contract, we sold him for good money and called him a chinless greedy cunt, though he played one of most beautiful footballs for us in emirates, walcott did the same, we kept him and he’s nowhere near “our” samir nasri, noway, i cant like the guy.
That’s because Nasri *was* a chinless greedy cunt. Happy to help.
Walcott probably could’ve beat 140/wk at City due to their desperate homegrown needs a few weeks back. We’ve got creative mids out the ears now, and theo’s an entirely different thing. And not a bitter cunt as Nasir has proven himself to be over and over.
So the difference is that the chinless greedy cunt asked when the bank was empty.
Theo asked when the bank was full.
So a reasonable reflection on ‘real life’ then.
If it happens it oh wait
