Bellerin ready for Debuchy battle

Hector Bellerin is aware that despite his rapid rise to prominence, he’s got to maintain his level of performance if he wants to keep his place in the Arsenal team.

The Spanish youngster took advantage of the Frenchman’s injury absences last season to jump from reserve to first choice, but the former Newcastle man won’t want to spend this period of his career on the bench, and will fight hard to regain his place.

It’s something Bellerin is ready for, and excited by.

“Mathieu Debuchy is back now so we know there is going to be a lot of competition,” he said, “but we all say that is a good thing.

“Competition always makes you train harder and perform better because you know you have to give 100 percent otherwise you are going to be on the bench.”

And having scored in last season’s 4-1 demolition of Liverpool, the 19 year old is chomping at the bit to have another go.

“They have signed some good players, it is going to be a totally different game and we are excited,” he said.

“It is only the third game of the season so it is important that we do things well.

“We had a very good pre-season, we had a very good end to the year last year, so obviously there is a great atmosphere in the dressing room and the team is very excited.”

Let’s hope excitement is translated into another performance like the one we saw last season.

He shut out hazard all the times he faced him. Gave Raheem a hard time too. Bring on the mugsmashers.
We’ll teach ’em how to stunt.

Fvck monday night footy fixtures by the way

Eduardo Stark

true that, when we lost the ball and faced some counter attacks, you are almost guaranteed to see Bellerin rocketed already to fight the ball back. his attacking ability is also awesome. love the lad #nohomo

Jsergio

Most exciting player I have seen come out of the academy for a long time.

Little Mozart

I do love Hector’s eye for goal, but Debuchy scored at Anfield last season so I don’t really know who should start on Monday. Probably Bellerin, based on recent form.

Man Manny

Arsenal wins this battle. More of such please.

Ramsey – Cazorla?
Ozil – Wilshere?
Coq – Arteta?
Nacho – Gibbs?
Ox – Feo?
Giroud – Welbeck?
Alexis – Alexis? (he so good he compete with himself for left wing spot)

GoonerN16

Ozil – Wilshire? Are you serious?

AnonymousGun

Wilshere cant play in Coq’s role, he isnt B2B type of player similar to Ramsey either, so he cant play in that Cazorla/Ramsey spot.. He definitely aint winger, but he is #10 player.. so the only possible spot is what Ozil is holding.

He wins or not against Ozil for that spot is up to the performance of both of them.

Agree that our attacking players are top notch. Let’s look at the back of the team. Cech – Ospina Chambers – BFG Koscielny – Gabriel Coq -Arteta We might still be a little light on top class, talented, depth as we move back toward our goal. On the other hand, we have yet to see Chambers, Gabriel, and Ospina blooded this year so maybe I’m a bit pessimistic. I expect that Chambers is a longer term project (so he gets a bit of a pass) and hope that Gabriel will get a regular turn without injury to those ahead of… Read more »

Don’t think you have much of a “battle” Hector! You are quality mate!

I don’t know why u got a lot of thumbs down. But Debuchy is damn average. Just ask anyone who watches football with a critical and honest view. Bellerin is learning but is fantastic. He basically has no competition rather just a back up for when he’s got Knocks.

Ding

Debuchy was pretty decent at the start of last season i reckon, and lets not forget he was ahead of Sagna in the French team a few seasons back. Bellerin is fantastic but right now I just feel Debuchy’s a bit more solid at the back.

But it depends. Ramsey (when wide) would enjoy the penetration from Bellerin on the outside; whereas the Ox with his directness and dribbling would probably be more comfortable with a sturdier fullback behind him instead of constantly on the overlap.

Martin Finley

Bellerin is obviously hugely talented but I reckon he can learn alot from the experienced French international Debuchy.

Paul

Clearly you are not alone in that view! 🙂

Bring it on. Off topic how funny that moronio has embarrassed 7 of his multi millionaire ego’s. Surely wont be long before the dressing room is lost and with the player power he will be sacked as with all chavski bosses. Oh yeah the mighty ammers are losing to the mightier bournemouth!

In my opinion, there is no battle between Bellerin and Debuchy, Bellerin is by far the better player. When we lost Sagna i was disappointed, because he was great. We got Debuchy, i was ok about it, but i think Bellerin has surprised us all, including Wenger. Looking forward to many seasons with him in an Arsenal shirt. Hopefully he can repeat what he done to Liverpool on their last visit to the Emirates.

Bellerin will put the likes of Memphis Depay and Eden Hazard in his pocket.

Gunnerlocutor

Off topic: Hamburg just beat Stuttgart 3-2 with a classy last minute winner. By Johan Djorou!!! Good for him.

Man Manny

…and Szczesny did great for Roma with two point blank saves after a defender was robbed of the ball. Game ended 1-1.

Bendtner scored for Wolfsburg in a 1-1 draw

One of the best technical fullback in the world.might actually be the best in a couple of years

timmeh

not at the danny alvez level i think, but can sure be the next zambrotta this kid.

Sammyoras

At this rate he would be barca’s top transfer target in the next few years (and we will definetely give them the middle finger at last)

Ex-Priest Tobin

Bellerin is a great player. Compliments are due to Wenger for integrating him into the team, even though he has got a lot of other stuff wrong..

santori

I said start last season we were short in defense but that we had 7 defenders and not 6. That’s because Bellerin had been clearly threatening to break through over last two seasons. He is night and day to jenkinson whom many wanted back instead. Bellerin is more technical and comfortable on the ball and does not whip in crosses blindly. Debuchy will need a bit of time to regain his form. Wenger hedged against the loss of a stalwart and assurance at RB in the Sagna departure with Debuchy, Bellerin and Calum. He had a good chance one out… Read more »

I agree about Pedro’s quality, but where would we put him? On the left with Alexis on the right? But we’re already paying Theo squillions and he can’t get on. I fear Pedro could be benched next to him wondering which will get the sub call first.

Akamahid

Looks like we might have signed Benzeeeeeeeeeeemaaaaa

At least that’s what Rodney Marsh says. So it MUST be true.

It was 4-0

It was 4-0 last season not 4-1. Facts. Yer. Right. Get.

It was 4-0

Oh. Actually. I remember Henderson scored a penalty when I went for a piss.

Apologies.

#looklikeadickheadnow

It was 4-0
