Having returned to England after an extended summer break due to his involvement in the Gold Cup, Joel Campbell says he doesn’t want to think about anything but Arsenal for the time being.
The Costa Rican forward spent the second half of last season on loan at Villarreal, scoring once in the 22 appearances he made for the La Liga side.
Already there have been links with Palermo, who spoke last week about Arsenal being difficult to deal with, and Real Sociedad where David Moyes is apparently a fan.
However, quoted by @TDMasCR, Campbell said, “My mind is on Arsenal. For now I prefer not to talk about the transfer market”.
Arsene Wenger’s intentions remain unclear. Had Campbell been around for pre-season he might have found himself involved ahead of a half-fit Alexis at the weekend, but like the Chilean he’s had a summer tournament and a late arrival back to London.
Chances are we’ll see another loan spell, at least, but time will tell.
GOWYCJ.
That’s a bit stale.
ha ha.. true.. or stick around and become another Coq.. u never know..
Interpretation please…. @ Snuffington
Its ok, I got it….
Watched his performance for Villareal and he never looked like a player who can perform at higher level . I never understand why he is so highly rated by some fans .
olympiakos versus manchester united , i rest my case .
One excellent shot and goal in 90 minutes doesn’t make him world-class.
This kid just won’t learn. Didn’t he witness the debacle on the weekend? He’s a big talent, and could be world class but he will never fulfill his potential at Arsenal.

After looking at the subs bench on the weekend can we afford to get rid of him without buying a replacement?
In my opinion no
We still got Wellington Silva. Remember him?
Anyone?
I think Wellington may be sold. I’m amazed we’ve found a buyer but apparently Betis are interested. As for Campbell, if Wenger didn’t fancy him last season – remember his excellent goal at the Emirates Cup? – why would he now? It’s not like Campbell particularly shone during his last loan spell, or that Wenger, once he’s taken against a player, often changes his mind. Seems no one is willing to pay the price we’re asking, but I can’t see him having much of a future with us. He’s not the clinical central striker who’s better than Giroud and Walcott… Read more »
Why surprised? He had a good season last time and featured a few times in Marca’s team of the week.
If anything, I’m surprised he’s not in the squad. It’s quite strange. No link or interest in selling or loaning him, no preseason features either. Just been doing private fitness sessions.
Funnily enough, his treatment is kinda like Coq last season, where he just seemed to….disappear.
I’m talking of Silva btw.
I suppose I’m surprised because it’s gone on for so long, with loan spell after loan spell at the lower end of La Liga but never any talk of any of them wanting to make it permanent, even though he sometimes did well. As for us, I don’t remember him playing at all except in a kids’ friendly pre-season against United a few years back where he scored (and tweeted proudly about it, implying it was in a real senior game) and perhaps a brief sub appearance against Barnet. He’s had an EU passport for over a year now but… Read more »
Sorry this doesn’t make sense but I can’t reply directly to Miranda’s comment:
Pedro Botelho is Brazilian
Samuel Galindo is the Bolivian
My bad typing, my brain goes faster than my fingers so I leave out half the words. I should read things through.
I meant both Galindo and Botelho. We haven’t had much luck recently with young South Americans. We should listen more to Tim Vicary who said when we signed Wellington that it was a mega mistake for him to have come to Europe so young. He had loads talent but not the emotional equipment to handle success or even to leave home at 17. Hopefully now he’s older he’ll be OK.
Sell him and move on…
Would you rather we keep Campbell or play Iwobi/Adelaide? Our squad is clearly lacking true wingers so I’d rather do the latter.
The Jeff!
Play him now I tells ya!
Can’t say I particularly understand all the hype for Campbell. He scored one great goal at the World Cup and that was it. The rest of his performances were ok but nothing to shout about. He’s also didn’t do a great deal on loan last season. If he doesn’t turn it around this season I think his star will have faded.
He also nutmegged Carrick outside the United box and proceeded to curve the the ball into left hand corner in the Champions League for Olympiakos – that was pretty niiiice. It’s a shame he isn’t showing the signs of becoming the player we all want him to be though.
Besides sanchez there is no better winger at ARSENAL. Walcott, Welbeck and OX are not near this guy on the wing…….. Oh but they are ENGLISH. Selling him would be a huge error. He is good on defense and offence. I trust AW will not make that mistake
I would love for him to be better. He is not.
The only reason Welbeck is rated higher than Campbell is because he’s English.
Play him at CF and he will bang goals.
I have no basis for what whatsoever.
BUT I BELIEVE.
i just don’t know, i’m leaving this to Arsene. Hope whatever happens, is the best for the club, whether it be a sale, or doing a Coq.
Arsene appreciates you leaving this one to him.
But he wants to confirm that you have the next one, right? Right?

go on son. Pull out another Coq!
Save yourself Joel.
Akpom scored
I kind of hoped he might be an Eduardo type player. I guess I just fucking miss Eduardo so much I am seeing him in any and every diminutive left footed striker :(.
Dick Law spent whole summer trying to sign him lol
Don’t think there is any point focusing on a club when the focus is not mutual. His interest, I believe, would be better served somewhere else.
The key phrase is “for now”, which to my mind means he has barely three weeks of focus left.
Palermo sounds like a good option, if playing time guaranteed on the pitch rather than the bench. I hope terms can be mutually agreed. Good luck Joel….
Wenger must see things in training that lead him to believe that he can’t rely on Campbell. He’s done OK with his few chances with the first team, not great, not awful. Performances in the World Cup certainly don’t always translate to the Premier League week in and week out as it can be a very different type of match played. He certainly can have moments of brilliance, but I think with him it’s more about consistency why Wenger doesn’t fancy him as many fans do. For his sake I hope Wenger will let him move on as he doesn’t… Read more »
