After his Community Shield winner yesterday, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is targetting more goals in the upcoming season.
The England man thumped a 24th minute shot past Thibaut Courtois for the game’s only goal, and the Ox spoke afterwards about his desire to step up his goalscoring.
“It was really nice to see that one go in,” he told Arsenal Player. “I got a goal in the Emirates Cup, and it’s what I need to do this year, there’s no doubting that and I’m not afraid to say that I need to score more goals.
“I’ve set myself that target this year on a personal level so every time I’m on the pitch it’s important that I try and contribute in some way and a goal or an assist is what I need to do. It was really nice to score and, as it’s the winner, it’s that little bit more special.”
It’s easy to forget he’s still young, turning 22 in mid-August, so there’s definite room for improvement when it comes to his goalscoring contribution.
Goals scored by Oxlade-Chamberlain per season
2010-11 – 10 (for Southampton)
2011-12 – 4
2012-13 – 2 + 3 intl
2013-14 – 3
2014-15 – 3 + 1 intl

He’s young but they will start coming more. 10 is a fair target this season.
Ox in the box.
Worth remembering he’s still only 21 (just).
If he can score that many goals aged 17, then I think a full season target should be more like 20. Fuck fairness.
His dad scored 1 goal in 8 matches from the wing, on average. So hopefully he will improve on that, though if he is playing wide that will limit him, 20 is v optimistic! I hope you are right though.
2012-13 Walcott scored 21 goals for us playing predominately on the right.
This is a far better side with greater squad cohesion (domination/efficiency).
So, no, I don’t think 20 is the least bit optimistic. Certainly, if he stays fit.
If it isn’t optimistic that implies that he could score 25 if he has a very good season, from a previous Arsenal best of 4! At 21 years old Thierry Henry (or alternatively any PL winger you can name) wasn’t getting close to that, Theo got 13 at 21 years, 11 at 22.
Keep a realistic target of 10 and then hope he surprises us.
In those days Southampton were in League One.
2015/2016 – The Ox’s season
25/1 as Young player of the Year.
Fill your boots lads.
world beater that Ox of a dude
I love him, he is fab
The Ox is going to flourish this season, he doesnt get hyped up like some of the other english talent probably because hes been injured quite alot just as hes looking to break out. But i believe he is going to be englands best player very soon! With the dribbling skills and ability to beat a man or 2 or 3 that the Ox and Sanchez possess we’ll have a devastating attack! Coyg
Bring back OxTV
Brilliant going forward, of course, but still needs to work on his defending. Chel$ki had too many attacks down our right, especially in the first half. It didn’t help that Bellerin was often missing too. Thank God Hazard was shite on the day, Azpilicueta is too scared of Maureen to venture forward, and none of Willian’s raids down that side amounted to anything. Another day and we would have payed for the lax defending on the right. Bellerin could still learn from Monreal about balancing attack and defence, and even Cazorla was much more disciplined than The Ox on the… Read more »
Think this through: Ox playing 7 and Alexis Sanchez playing 11. Two speed demons on each flank.
he has got everything else in his game…pace, power, trickery, the lot!, and adding goals to his game will be the last piece in the development of this extremely talented, yet humble young man, and this is a good start!
This is the Year of “the ox” for me.
I wonder why nobody tried to punch that mourihno guy in the face yesterday…what was he trying do? Give wenger a hug?..Thank God he was snubed like the shit that he is.COYG……
Bellerin did what he was asked to do, play RB and still join the attack. He played Hazard out of the game. Debauchy couldn’t have withstood Hazard’s pace. Debauchy is 29/30 and RB may no more be suitable position for him because you need pace to perform well as an RB which for Arsenal and Bellerin has that. He has the same problem as Chambers despite bag of experience. Sagna performed well because he has pace as well. This is Arsenal where our RB/Lb are also wingers in a way. This is not a NewCastle team or the French national… Read more »
Potential has obviously been there. If he stays fit, he’ll be one of the most important members of the team
The ox is the best among his age grade and that wields a pang of pain in the heart of the English media
Sorry for the Off Topic comment. Regular reader but almost never comment here.
Arseblog (or anyone else) I’ll be in Dublin on the 8th and 9th. What is a good place to watch some football, and especially Arsenal?
The competition for that place on the right is so exciting. Don’t forget Pires and Freddie both scored about 15 from out wide so the ox can easily get 10.
I think I heard someone say he’s played 117 games for arsenal (including substitute cameos) and he’s still only 21. Great player with great potential. Can he stay fit and have a breakthrough season? Early evidence is pre-season suggests so.
My only desire and prayer for you is that you stay injury-free; I know we’ll be treated to many more of such beauties as yesterday’s.
Goal targets for players:
Walcott: 15
Ox: 10
Sanchez: 25
Giroud: 20
Ramsey: 15
Wilshere: 10
Cazorla + ozil + arteta: 15
Rest: 15
the prob is we become more of a nursing school that football club… poor us….let all guns stay free of injuries we are champions
