Joel Campbell – international man of mystery and multiple loan deals. Went to Villarreal last season, scored one goal. Went to the Gold Cup this summer, hasn’t been seen since but that’s because he got some extended holidays.
Still, people are interested in him – even if Arsene Wenger doesn’t really appear to be one of them. David Moyes likes him, wants to buy him for Real Sociedad, Arsenal have said ‘You need to dig deeper than that’, as a paltry offer is rejected.
Palermo, capital of Italian province Palermia, also fancy kitting him out in their lovely pink shirt, but negotiations aren’t proving easy.
According to an agent working on behalf of the Serie A club, the Gunners are being ‘difficult’ – probably because we want a decent fee (loan or otherwise) for a player who just signed a new contract in January.
“The negotiations ran aground,” Gianluca Forini said. “Arsenal are a club difficult to deal with.
“There is a will from Palermo to bring Joel Campbell to Italy. However, we are a bit annoyed by the reaction of the Gunners and we are considering other targets.”
Ooooh, the old double bluff, we’re not falling for that one. It remains to be seen what our intensions really are for the Costa Rican forward, but another departure wouldn’t be in the least bit surprising.
The question is whether or not it will be permanent or temporary.
Oh dear. I thought he was safe by now. Secure. Had found his freedom at long last. Poor Joely. What if he doesn’t get out while he can? Won’t someone think of Joel Campbell?!
GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN JOEL!
I reckon Wenger’s holding on to him to use as a makeweight in a deal for Benzema. You heard it here first…
He’s joking
Maybe he’s hoping it might knock a fiver off eh?
What do people make of this?

14 poos.
That’s a lot of poo
There isn’t enough poo in the universe for that one.
As Palermo is in Sicily, surely they will make an offer we cannot refuse?

no money no talk
Let it be known that no horses have been harmed in the Campbell deal. So far.
Luka Podolski sleeps with the fishes.
Palermo: we will pay you “x” for campbell
Arsenal: but we want “y” for campbell becau..
Palermo: GAWD WHY DO YOU HAVE TO BE SO DIFFICULT?!? LUGI! CALL THE PRESS! ARSENAL ARE BEING DIFFICULT!
If he does depart – and frankly it’s hard to see the point of anymore loans – then it will be one the more ignominious chapters in our recent history. Because it was him, whom Law spent a week trying to sign, the very season we saw Cesc and Nasri depart. And the manner of that divorce, was such that Wenger and Gazedis appeared the only two people on the planet who couldn’t see that happening. Wenger’s public statement that ” you can’t be a big Club and sell your best players” being a wince inducing confirmation of that fact.… Read more »
He featured in the CL and the league for us last season. It was his corner against Galatasaray that was cleared to Ramsey for THAT goal.
he played 10 games for Arsenal last season and cost £1M and will be sold for significantly more than that hardly and ignominious chapter. Just a signing that didn’t quite work out. Had he been given a work permit and allowed to play for Arsenal earlier it could perhaps have been different.
He was not Park Chu Young.
Can we not play hardball for a few million Euros, we’re not skint. There won’t be any better offers than whatever Palermo, Sociedad and that Portuguese team are offering, let’s be honest. There’s no point holding on the Campbell for another 500k so we can offer Barca £40.5M+1 for Suarez. Just let him go wherever he wants.
That’s quite the benevolent tack you are taking.
There are three teams interested in our player – sounds like a bidding war to me!
Or, how about letting Campbell choose where we wants to go, after shipping him out on loan (visa, I know), then rotting on the bench for half a season, then going back out on loan to help us bring in Gabriel, it’s the least we could do for him.
But I suppose you guys are right. If we can squeeze an extra €500k out of each transfer, and we sell 30 players per season, in 15 years time we can afford Messi’s right leg.
Was it you who shouted to Joel at the train station?
Ah if every club had your business accumen…
Surely we have screwed this guy around enough. Hopefully we don’t jeopardise his chances of progressing his career.
I think he’s managed that with his amazing goal return of 1 goal last season.
His record just strengthens the argument that maybe we shouldn’t be gouging for money for a striker who doesn’t score much.
You have no idea how much is on offer or what Arsenal are asking for. If the bid is £100, should we just accept because he is a striker who doesn’t score much. Or perhaps you think we should actually pay Palermo a fee to take him away?
Most people don’t know the exact details of any dealings with/by Arsenal, yet we all form opinions and debate. It may be conjecture but then if we didn’t allow that then the only people talking about the club would be Wenger, the Board and the Arsenal Execs.
Well Arsenal have a valuation for the player and considering they have spent a lot more time with him then you have, I’d be inclined to believe them over your ‘gouging for money’ accusations.
According to multiple sources in Italy Palermo have offered 6 million euro, Arsenal want 9-10 million. Might not seem that big of a difference but for a team of Palermo’s size it is, even with the money they got from selling Paulo Dybala.

It’s interesting how we let Podolski go for so little taking a sizable loss on him, but seem to not to sell Campbell especially when his stock was higher after the WC performance. He doesn’t play at all in preseason and is never on the bench and with players like Wilshere and Ramsey that want to play in the middle, but can play with the wing as well as the normal wing players that don’t get to play he has less of a chance of actually seeing the field than Chambers, Flamini, Martinez, etc. do. Hope Wenger does the right… Read more »
Campbell’s not on £100k a week…..
I agree he has no future at the club but if a person is on vacation after an international tournament he isn’t also able to play in preseason. If he could, someone who could be in two places at the same time would probably command a very high transfer fee indeed.
Ah. If only he’d gotten out while he still could. Now he will forever be stuck at this once great club as it faces an inevitable spiral to the bottom of the table and financial ruin.
Anyone who missed Mourinho crying about Wenger today can view it with this one photo that we have to post on every site we can –

The real story here is few clubs in Europe can afford to sign players from Prem clubs. Palermo’s issue is with economics, not Arsenal.
There’s a midfielder on their books called Franco Vazquez who played some great stuff with Paulo Dybala (now at Juventus) last season. We have many midfielders but he’s a really accomplished Rakitic-type and I hope Dick Law’s got an eye on him.
Will he be in Stoke for us this season?
Hes not very good…no?
Last time we wanted Dybala, they sold him to Juventus..it’s karma
1. Last year’s away kit was lovely. This year’s is poo.
2. What’s up with the quote from Forini? Surely no football professional referred to Arsenal as “the Gunners” in an on-the-record comment.
Whatever about Joel Campbell – I’m happy if Arsenal are being difficult for other clubs to whom we owe nothing whatsoever.
Palermo are hypocrites, how much money they wanted for Pastore or Dybala, we din’t complain over the media did we? We have to stand our ground and set example. The Arsenal is not a team you can bully over the media! You cannot afford our valuation? Suck it up then!
This thread just proves that children shouldn’t be given access to daddy’s iPad during summer school holidays.
This does seems to be the case more and more on here.
He was good against benfica
Really hope that’s not all we’ve seen of the lad
I think Wenger is having a hard look at retaining either Gnabry or Campbell.
On age, Campbell needs to move on if he has less chance at the first team, for sake of his career.
He’s a very decent player and at 23/24yrs (like Coquelin, Ramsey and Walcott before) is poised to realise his full potential.
Palermo probably low balled. There are other possible destinations I’m sure for Campbell.
A lack of Palermo faith? Scared they’d be left picking up the pieces I expect.
Obscure and will probably fly well under most radars. But nice.
