Chuba Akpom and Jon Toral got their loan spells at Hull City and Birmingham City off to a good start as both of them hit goals on their debuts.
Akpom scored his first senior goal in the 71st minute of Hull’s 2-0 win over Huddersfield in the Championship:
While Toral put the Blues 2-0 up against Reading in a game they went on to win 2-1.
Isaac Hayden completed 90 minutes at the centre of the Hull defence, while in League One Dan Crowley started for Barnsley but was replaced in the 57th minute of their 3-1 defeat to Chesterfield.
I heard Maitland-Niles had a good game for Ipswich as well.
Excellent!
Crowley grabbed an assist

And what an assist it was!
Toral’s header was a beauty.
Nice football brains Akpom used there
Straight in the top corner well created goal gotta love chuba
So many players would shoot first time. But Akpom remained calm and finished nicely
Heh.
Afobe scored too and we still have share in his sale value, just like Vila.
I’m pretty sure that Isaac Hayden is a midfielder and played centre midfield for Hull yesterday rather than defence. Showed some good skill at the Emirates Cup in that position as well.
Not a bad start from our loanees. Im hoping the generally better view of arsenal as a team recently, helps the youngsters out on their loan trips. The harder our first team is to get into, the better the quality of the guys out on loan. I guess.
It’ll be interesting to see how Akpom fares compared to former prospect Afobe.
Great for the young strikers but most encouraging for me is Hayden getting 90 mins as a central defender for a Steve Bruce team. A man who knew how to defend as a player. This could be the making of him.
He was playing in midfield.
That’s great but he needs to stop the stupid hand signals when celebrating a goal I know everyone does it but it’s still utterly shit he’s not gareth bale please stop it.
Nothing wrong with it.
I don’t like all the silly goal celebrations, hand signals, dances, shooting down the crowd, saluting, all the shit tattoos footballers have, the rolling around and crying on the ground when they’re breathed on, diving over when someone touches them…I just can’t help being a dinosaur and I refuse to apologise for it.
Are you my sister-in-law in disguise?
Come on Chubs!!! That’s how you make a debut!
I do quite fancy Toral for his playing style and his cool demeanour but I don’t know if I see him having a future at Arsenal. I really hope he proves me wrong.
Speaking of Crowley, I was a bit surprised Zelalem went off with the u19s to that tournament in South Africa. Zelalem has clearly out-grown the playground of youth football. I wonder why he wasn’t with the first team in pre-season, I just don’t think there’s anything more he can learn in the youth teams. He needs to get a loan, even if it’s to League One like Crowley. In youth football there’s much, much more time and space than in senior football, which is what Zelalem thrives on, and even the bigger boys are generally not that physical. Coping with… Read more »
Just a quick note,I was at the hull game as it is close by, akpom showed great pace, an excellent touch as well as good intelligence to win fouls when nothing else was on, his patience and control in the box was superb as shown in the fantastic goal he scored, the fans also welcomed his hard work and obvious skill when they gave him a standing ovation as he was subbed off. However, hayden played centre mid and not centre back, so in his favoured position. He looked good on the ball and moved it around quickly from side… Read more »
