Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Arsenal will donate £1 from every ticket sold for this weekend’s game against Stoke City to helping victims of the crisis in Syria.
The club are also understood to be coordinating further fundraising initiatives at the Emirates this weekend to support Save the Children’s Child Refugee Crisis Appeal.
The Gunners have long supported the charity’s work with Syrian refugees with Martin Keown opening a football pitch for Syrian children in the Za’atari refugee camp in Jordan as far back as 2012. In 2013 a charity ball run by The Arsenal Foundation raised further funds to provide learning spaces and materials for child refugees.
In total it’s estimated that the Gunners have raised upwards of £400,000 for Save the Children’s Syria-related efforts.
Since announcing the charity as their first ever global charity partner in July 2011 over £1 million has been raised with funds also being directed towards disaster relief work in the Philippines, Sierra Leone, Syria and, most recently in Nepal. The partnership also supports the charity’s work in China and Indonesia helping children receive a quality education in a safe environment.
Update – €1 from all ticket sales for Arsenal’s game against Olympiakos – the club’s first home UEFA Champions League group stage – will also be donated to the crisis appeal. All 80 clubs playing in the Champions League and Europa League have agreed to do similarly.

Arseblog News applauds the club’s efforts. If you want to donate to Save the Children’s Child Refugee Crisis Appeal, you can do so here. Alternatively, you can donate to their Syria-specific campaign here.

Anyone who moans about Arsenal spending money on suffering people and not new transfers- that’s a paddlin’
Can any of them play upfront? Or defensive midfield for that matter?
They all are all no 10s or wingers with a potential to move up front
one of many reasons why I love this club
Appreciate the gesture, but £1 per ticket? A bit stingy for a club of Arsenal’s standing? I mean, think about how much money is sloshing around the Premier League right now. Look at what Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are doing. And if Eibar – the smallest club in La Liga – can donate €5 per ticket, surely Arsenal can do better? Arsenal is a club renowned for doing things the right way. We should take a lead on this and set standards for others to follow. I’m just concerned the £1 thing will be seen as cheap PR when,… Read more »
It’s something that all the top leagues have agreed to. Arsenal didn’t choose the figure of £1.
Just read that Porto have asked all the 32 teams in the CL to donate 1 Euro from each ticket during the first round of games as well.
Actually, it’s all 80 teams in both the CL and EL.
How about the players donating £100 of their weekly salaries each. Would quickly rack up substantial cash and I doubt the players would notice!
i’d also suggest the agents could join the cause and donate just a small fraction of their ridiculous fees. seriously, if anyone should be giving something back, it’s them, but we never hear of that. instead, i heard jorge mendes got a new island for his birthday.
Some of them might be, others might not be. Following certain players closer than I do others I had no idea of some of the charitable efforts that folks such as Ozil and Ramsey are actively engaged in, they just don’t really publicize it unless asked directly in an interview or are awarded a public prize. If you follow them closely you’ll know the causes and charities they are involved with and what they have done. Other guys like Wilshere also actively respond to social media charity requests so while those are a bit more public given the nature of… Read more »
Might aswell spend money on a good cause right?
*My coat and keys
class
Classy as ever, some of the stories of these people looking for refuge is horrendous and some countries are refusing them entry.
Should set them up at the emirates, might make for a better lot than those Stoke mugs.
Puts things in perspective. I often bitch about the weak Rand when trying to buy stuff off the .com and then you’re reminded of people in such situations. Classy gesture from the club and a cause worth contributing to by all us fans aswell.
Thanks Arsenal!!!! From Nepal COYG
The people supporting this clearly hasn’t seen the footage of the disgusting way they are treating the people trying to help them. Yes those pictures of the dead boys was said but I guarantee NONE of you know the full story. They can all fuck off as far as I’m concerned. All this is from Arsenal is a nice little publicity stunt!!!
When you’re homeless and desperate to just survive then you can tell us about manners…
“Where are the doilies you plebs! This is a soup spoon, moron! I shan’t touch my rations without the proper utensils.”
While I have my own opinions on all of the migrants, I do believe they are best left off the arseblog. I applaud Arsenal for the work they do, but beyond that, an Arsenal blog is not really where I want to see political views aired particularly, never ends well and has nothing to do with Arsenal
Helping your fellow man isn’t a political view.
How about Arseblog publishes whatever they like? How about you don’t click on the article?
It’s something Arsenal have done, therefore it manifestly has something do with Arsenal, therefore Arseblog has reported on it. They also offer an opinion, which they’re entitled to do. The only reason you’re complaining is that you don’t agree with the opinion in question.
I think you will find I had no problem with the Arseblog article, I had a problem with Bergkamps bronze statue’s comment that politicized the article. I in fact congratulated arsenal for the charity work and made no comment as to whether any country should or shouldn’t be taking in refugees or any other related matter. I think the confusion came in from the fact I replied to the wrong comment since mine should have been directed to Bergkamps bronze statue not to DodgeZA. Just thought I would clear that up … Don’t know why … Probably the thumbs down
Just for the record, my comment was directed to Bergkamps bronze statue, I didn’t say anything was wrong with the Arseblog article and in fact applauded Arsenal for the charity work
What would you do if your home was being torn apart by conflict? 1000’s of people are dying trying to escape their homes and it’s not because they think the grass is greener. You will always find exceptions, but maybe you should try talking to them before rejecting them.
so everyone else is wrong and you are right
makes sense, doesn’t it? oh, wait
to clarify that was directed at the original post (“none of you know the truth blah blah blah”) rather than the comment immediately above…
Man, come on. If you don’t have anything decent to contribute, keep your mouth shut.
To ‘Bergkamp’s Bronze Statue’,
You initially left me speechless with your inside information.
However, rather than using obscene language to describe you, I shall say this…..
You have the genetic make-up of a person that was created from John Terry and Sarah Palin’s DNA
I’m glad that Arsenal are doing something but we pay the highest prices in the Premier League. Surely the club could give more than just £1 per ticket?
Brilliant… money well spent…! Screw Benzema… lets help those in desperate need! Absolute class Arsenal! More of this!
Cant tell if this is sarcasm or not..
Not 😉 I think its great work.
This is what happens when humanity fails you. It is a good gesture from the club definitely but this is what happens when we take anything in life too far. Be it football, religion or greed. It is during these times, that quote from the God resonates in my head – I found myself at Arsenal. You can have the cups, trophies and what not(I know its nice), but supporting Arsenal is way above all of it.
A bit too deep for a Thursday afternoon mon amie. perhaps i`ll revisit on friday after a few pints
Nice sentiments and all that, but it’s people believing in scriptures written hundreds of years ago about made-up deities and the interpretation of said books to suit their own evil ideologies that has created this (current) crisis.
commendable, as any charity donations are…BUT…£1 a ticket? c’mon guys; how about 1 weeks wages per player? none of the 1st teamers would even notice it missing fae the bank account tbh…lets show how big hearted the gooners REALLY are…
I wouldn’t be surprised if a number of players had already donated, but just haven’t gone public to announce doing so. A lot of charity work various footballers do seems to go under the radar so a simple financial donation quite likely would too.
I agree and I’m almost sure of it that some of our team have already done their part on a personal level. That it hasn’t been made public is all the more respectable.
Can’t believe the amount of people that care more about football players > humanity. People are dying, yet a lot of people just want trophies that they themselves don’t even get to lift. Such a strange world.
“VENGA won’t spend a FACKIN penny on transfers but sends 60,000 FACKIN QUID to go to some homeless fella who doesn’t even PLAY FOOTBALL!!! At least stick him in the academy FOR FACK SAKE VENGA!”
[Disclaimer: Not trivialising the desperate plight of unfortunate migrants, just pre-empting the inevitable reaction of an obnoxious and morally bankrupt football fool]
Have Arsenal got loads of £1 coins laying around they went rid of?
First the Suarez bid, now this.
(Really a good cause though, are any other prem clubs doing this?)
I have to say I’m uncomfortable with the “It’s only £1 pound – should be doing more” view. Yes,£60,000 is small change to a club like Arsenal, but it’s still a lot of money in the real world. How much food and medicine, how many clothes, blankets and tents could that amount of cash buy? ANY attempt to help these desperate people should be encouraged and commended and, for a club that already contributes enormously in the community and to other charities, this is just a continuation of their good work.
Well done Sr seal and all the teams that have contributed to this cause. You are all champions in my book, especially my beloved Arsenal.
Didn’t Sr Seal do “But we’re never gonna survive-a, unless-a, we get a leetle beet-a crazy” (in a Joe Dolce “Shaddapayoface” accent)?
Well done Arsenal(Predictive text error above)
