Petr Cech has backed David Ospina after his mistake in midweek, saying that it’s part of the job to ensure teammates don’t feel too downcast after such events.
The Colombian stopper was at fault for the second Olympiacos goal, dropping a routine catch over the line, but the Czech international knows how it feels and has offered his support.
“You always try to help your team-mate in a situation like this,” he told TalkSport, “because I’ve been in the same situation a few times and you need to make sure the next day you put it behind you and you come back to work and get ready for the next game because you can’t change it.”
He’s been in and out of the side since his arrival from Chelsea, perhaps not quite finding his rhythm yet, but Cech is pleased with life in North London so far.
“The first few weeks was to discover the club and how it works,” he said. “I found a very special unit here within the club and the ambition.
“That’s something I’m very pleased with because my personal motivation was to have a chance to win the Premier League and in every competition.
Obviously we had a big disappointment to start with in the league but we bounced back and we put together a solid results.”
And he’s looking for three points in a big game tomorrow to boost Arsenal towards the top of the table.
“Obviously on Sunday if we can win the game, to join the top of the league, that would be ideal. We dropped points in the games you think you could have done better.
“The important thing is that it’s a game for six points, they are top of the league and we are three points behind. If we want to close the gap we need to win the game.
“After what happened on Tuesday there is more pressure on us to do well and bounce back from a huge disappointment and we need to make sure we are ready.”
The 33 year old will get the nod in goal again, and fingers crossed he can play his part in an Arsenal win.
I was wondering why Cech still likes to wear the black vinyl on his head.
Maybe it’s because, like Arteta, he is 33 and a third?
Good try, though I think you might have lost the younger audience.
But my sons have nicked all my 70’s L.P.’s!!
Petr you are a top bloke!
Does anybody know how long food poisoning lasts? Cause if my mate still isn’t well tomorrow, I’m going! Don’t get me wrong, I hope he’s fine by Monday but I’m praying for a sunami esque orrifice bashing for the next 36 hours. Sorry Paul, I love you matey, I just really want to go.
“tsunami-esque orifice bashing.”
Dear God. You could be a poet. A disturbing, yet strangely beautiful figure of speech.
With 10/10 Arseblog-esque bonus points for the monicker
There is no footballer I won’t to go for a pint with more than Petr Čech.
Not even our “Little Mozart”?? 🙂
That would be a couple of pints and some whores.
Now this time unless you call it before kick off looking at the team sheet, please no hindsight vitriol if we lose.
I think we’re gonna win anyway.
off topic buh love it as Chelsea keep losing again and again
“my personal motivation is to have a chance to win the premier league and in every competition”. Depends on the kind of trophys you want to win. If its the premier 4th trophy then you are in the right club
Don’t you get bored regurgitating this spiel?
Let’s just hope we can get through this match with 11 players and no gifted own goals to opponents. If we can do that I think we’ll be OK. Tough not having Koscielny back there against their speed up top, but should be able to create some good chances of our own with Walcott and Sanchez firing well. Need a lot from Ozil today, hope he will step up.
Good words from Cech for a teammate that has been unfairly insulted and destroyed in social networks and newspapers for one mistake in all the games he’s played…yes, that mistake was bad and stupid but everybody ignores Olympiacos scored another 2 goals where he was left exposed by the defense. We all forget the good things he’s done in the past, that’s the world we live in. The issue was not playing Ospina instead of Cech, the problem was that at the end of the day, we didn’t learn our lessons, we underestimated the rival…again.
