Arsenal: Cech, Bellerin, Gabriel, Koscielny, Monreal, Coquelin, Cazorla, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ozil, Alexis, Giroud
Subs: Macey, Debuchy, Gibbs, Flamini, Chambers, Campbell, Walcott
—
Arsenal moved to the top of the Premier League after a hard-fought 2-1 win over Everton at the Emirates this evening.
Arsene Wenger made three changes from the team that beat Bayern Munich 2-0 on Tuesday, with Gabriel, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Olivier Giroud coming in for Per Mertesacker (ill), Aaron Ramsey (hamstring) and Theo Walcott (bench).
The French striker was involved early with a good take and some pressure on Tim Howard to try and set the Arsenal pace, and he had the first chance of the game, heading wide from a 7th minute Cazorla corner under pressure from the Everton defenders.
Gabriel had a clearer sight of goal from another corner but headed over, before Mesut Ozil found himself one on one with Howard. His shot was saved but the German’s blushes were spared somewhat when the referee penalised Giroud for a foul in the build-up.
A sumptuous pass from Ozil to Alexis brought about another corner, and again Gabriel won the header but couldn’t direct it on target. Francis Coquelin picked up a harsh 24th minute yellow card, before the visitors had their first sight of goal. With the pitch and ball increasingly slippy because of the rain, Petr Cech parried a low cross into the path of John Stones but the bit defender hooked his shot wide.
It was a bit anti-climatic after Tuesday. Ozil curled in a dangerous free kick which Koscielny almost got a touch to, Alexis shot over from distance, but in the 36th minute the Gunners were ahead. Ozil picked the ball up out on the right, stepped inside a defender, and lofted a beautiful ball into Giroud, who flicked it beyond Tim Howard and into the net. 1-0.
It was Ozil’s 7th assist of the season, Giroud’s 6th goal. Arsenal have had a good habit recently of scoring goals quickly, and that was true again because 90 seconds later the lead was doubled. Alexis won a free kick just outside the box, Cazorla whipped it in, and Koscielny was there to bundle it home from close range. 2-0.
The lead was cut just 5 minutes later though when Everton grabbed one back. Oxlade-Chamberlain’s decision to shoot into a crowd of players rather than play it to Bellerin outside him proved costly, as Everton broke downfield and Ross Barkley’s shot deflected off Gabriel, wrong-footing Petr Cech. 2-1. Arsenal took the one goal lead into the half-time break but it really shouldn’t have been so close.
There were no changes at the break, and Oxlade-Chamberlain looked to make up for his mistake, finding Alexis at the back post but the Chilean’s shot was saved by Tim Howard. The same pair combined again in the 53rd minute, again Howard was forced to come out and make a stop to deny the Arsenal number 17.
The Ox was involved again, setting up Giroud who saw his swiveling effort saved at the near post. With the Gunners dominating possession, there was danger on the break but great defending from Gabriel prevented Barkley from getting a shot away, while Monreal stood up brilliantly to the always diving Delofeu.
Oxlade-Chamberlain blasted a shot into the head of a defender from a Monreal cross, and more fantastic craft from Ozil fashioned a chance for Giroud – the Frenchman unlucky to see his curling effort come back off the bar with Howard beaten all ends up.
There were warning signs for Arsenal that the game wasn’t won, Galloway heading wide from close range after a cross to the back post found the home defence ball-watching. Arsenal looked tired, feeling the effects of Tuesday night, and got away with it in the 79th minute when a Lukaka header brushed the top of the bar with Cech beaten.
Arsene Wenger made his first change then, bringing on Mathieu Flamini for Oxlade-Chamberlain to try and shore things up. It didn’t stop the Frenchman from having a pop at goal, shooting wide after being set up by best mate Mesut, and then heading straight at Howard from an Alexis cross. Immediately, Everton broke, and only for a fantastic smothering save from Delofeu the scores would have been level.
The Arsenal keeper was again called into action, this time stopping a Kevin Mirallas shot, and after Kieran Gibbs replaced Alexis, fantastic play by Ozil resulted in his shot coming off the outside of the post.
There was danger at both ends in the 4 minutes of injury time, Gabriel making a brilliant tackle in our box to deny Lukaku, and there was just time for a second yellow for Gareth Barry.
In the end a tired but committed Arsenal hung on and took the three points which put them back on top of the table.
Fuck yeah!!
Mourinho is a cunt
To be exact, MaureenO is a ‘Special Cunt’!
Mourinho – Special Cunt
Terry – Prime Cunt
Costa – Cunt
Costa – Neanderthal Cunt
They are a team of cunts, owned by an oil cunt, captained by a massive cunt, and managed by an impossibly huge cunt.
Abramovich – Cunt Overlord
Chelsea fans – Cunt Troopers
Mike Dean – Cunt Master General
The goal line technology was afraid to give the goal for Chelsea!
The goal line technology doesn’t want to be associated with cunts.
Useless cunt
Ozil is seriously trying to become my favourite arsenal player. And he is succeeding…
Sanchez needs to work his socks off now then..
Cech again won us the points. And fuck right fucking off Mourinho.
No need to say fuck Mou or else Chelsea might discover he has lost the plot and sack him. Please let him remain and fight the drop this season and see what it takes to be at a club for 19 years.
My trip to London this year is for the January match against Chel$ki and I’d like nothing better than for Moronho to be sacked after that very match, when we’ve beaten them 8-0.
That game came to one thing in the end. Gabriel tackle, fistpump air….
Yeaaaah
Celebrated it like a goal. Martin keown incarnate.
I liked that our goals came from set pieces
What a thrilling match…my nails are all gone!!!
Agreed! Had to borrow my brother’s hands for the last five minutes 😉
Ew.
What a fucking week. Can you say top of the table? Cech/Gabriel MoM.
Defensively…
Offensively, it had to be Ozil.
I’m praying for a draw in Manchester tomorrow. With Mata, De Bruyne (see how bloody clueless Mourinho is? Traded this guy for Salah LOL), Smalling all out with long term injuries.
Mourinho ran Robben out of Chelsea, got rid of De Bruyne, and now looks to run Hazard out of Chelsea. Compare that to what Ozil and Sanchez (think both just signed extensions too) have to say about Wenger/Arsenal.
I hope we rotate quite a bit for the midweek game. A few guys need rest and our bench players need some game time.
Anyone up for a cheeky bid for Hazard? I mean, I don’t really care if we get him, but I’m sure he’d think about it, and that could really be the beginning of the end of Mourinho’s descent into insanity.
That’s almost evil because driving someone mad is normally. However in this case it’s a brilliant idea.
Wenger read the signs at the beginning of the season and decided to ignore that basterd. He is having a melt down of historic proportions – probably more so because he is being ignored!!
I love that idea. Just for the sake of how much it would piss that special cunt!
Top of the league!!!
They aren’t all three nil wins, it had to be fought for in the end but that is an important three points. TOP OF THE LEAGUE!!!
Top of the league after 10 played. Nothing wrong with that. Big results this week. Keep it going boys.
Ramsey said a few weeks ago to judge them after 10 games or so.. so we champ now?
Top of the league.
Loved that Gabriel fist pump near the end! He was immense today.
Say we – are – top of the league, say we are top of the league.
Proud and happy gunner
We-are-topotheleague-I-say-wearetopotheleague!!
Wearetoothpasteleague!
Hahahahahahaha, that’s how I read it too.
incredible match by gabriel paulista.
wenger has amassed the best back 6 in europe: cech, bellerin, koscielny, paulista, nacho, coquelin.
Back 7!
with a decent backup in BFG, Gibbs, Chambers, Debuchy
Flamini did more since coming on than The Ox. Jogging back after stupidly shooting when a simple pass would suffice when your 2 up , is so 2010 Arse.
His name is Gabriel, without second name, the “Paulista” name means people from Sao Paolo :), so as we are a real Gooner, we need to call him with correct name, GABRIEL !!! COYG
Gabriel Arsenelia.

COYG! Blogs you at the game again? Could swear I heard your voice on the US feed, just like last year.
That cunt Gareth Barry needs to retire. Game’s too fast for him.
Arsenal were tired but manage to hold on … always difficult after champions league
Mate. We are sick.
LOL @ Mourinho. Specialist in Failure indeed!
Look at his little face:

That is priceless
I’m going to frame that and hang it on my wall.
From that one picture I ended up on a 30 minute ADD sidetrack reading on Google about how much he’s fucking up this season. Mad.
Massively huge win. Was incredibly difficult and we rode our luck at times (as did Everton to be fair). Made sweeter by the fact we put a ridiculous amount of work in mid-week.
I did a little poop when Cech had to make that save low to his left. That’s what a world class keeper does for you though.
Top of the league!
How good were Giroud and Özil today? World class.
Mesut was fucking stunning. They couldn’t get near him.
And what has Jose Mourinho got to say about the specialist in failure leading his team to the top of the league while his expensive failures languish in 15th place behind the likes of Watford and Stoke?
Weak and naive~
Chamberlain looks like the home-grown Gervinho.
His confidence does look a bit low at the moment but the emirates is still quite supportive of him, unlike the shit they heaped on Gervinho. Hopefully a run of a few games will get him back ‘on his game’.
I’m starting to mind the sight of Barkley, a bit, recently. He did it in the pre-season friendly and now again today. Wouldn’t be a problem if he starts to score against our rivals – something that he doesn’t do often enough.
Top of the league!!!!!!!!!!!! Fucking happy days!
Wagner aahhht
COME BACK DAVID MOYES!
MOURINHO PUSHES BOYS!
WE GOT WENG-ENG-ER!
WE GOT WENG-ENG-ER!
wow! what a game that was! hearts in the mouths, as a hard rock song! but somehow i was confident we had it, well easy that when you have likes o cech gabi oziiil handling things! woohoo
solid performance all around. the ox needs a good run and he will hit his stride. wednesday on wednesday looks good for him. always loved flamini. gabriel is a warrior. ozil practically shrugged as he saw his assist go in. coyg!
nacho, bellerin, kos, coq, etc. etc. and santi.
Oh Özil. Such a classy player
Ozil shooting makes me very happy!
Ozil makes me very happy.
Ozil unreal
Three straight victories in the league, 8 goals scored one conceded and to top it off, we thrash Bayern 2 nill. What a time to be a gunner.
and the conceded goal was a deflection!
Great performance. And again, a world class keeper saves points for us, what a difference with previous keepers. Hope Wenger gets some top DM to cover/compete with Coquelin.
That’s unfair as Ospina showed by his excellent run last season and Szczesny was the joint Golden Gloves the year before. All our keepers are very good but Cech just seems to be that tiny bit better (and hopefully much more consistent). And Martinez looks to be an excellent prospect as well.
A great problem to have is whom to start – Giroud and Walcott. Walcott’s finishing has been great, but Giroud has more than deserved a starting place with his last 3 performances. I am inclined to start Giroud and move Walcott to right, and bring on an energetic Ox as a sub.
I think Giroud has been playing well enough to deserve a start, but my only worry is that with him up front we won’t be able to counter as effectively.
How many match-winning performances was that? Cech, Gabriel, Kos, Giroud, Ozil, Santi, Alexis, Coq. So many players with the ability to change a game and a full team performance with the desire to win. Giroud in particular, I’m not sure what he did today that Benzema could have done better! Excellent performance yet again. We’re top of the league lads! Your move Mancs.
Hard on the battle, top of the table. Yeaah gunners yeah.
That Petr Cech save…..
difference between 1 point and 3 points…
difference between challengers and champions….
COME ON YOU GUNNERS …… HELL YEAH !!!!!
Wenger subbed in Flamini not to shore things up, but to create havoc in Everton’s defence
He is our false false 9!
Our worst performance in a while and who was out injured? Yep.
lol
We can’t ask any more than for all players to give their all every game, regardless the opponent. And tonight, after a big game against Bayern, they played their hearts out again.
Top of the league! Cech with another game winning save. And how about Wenger’s selections? The subs played their parts perfectly, and OG for Theo was inspired. Coyg!
Ozil had a great game. Loved his shot at the end which hit the post. He is starting to take “appear” in games as venerated (dimwit) pundits would say. The Ox disappointed again when he lost the ball but overall had a average game. Maybe he needs more game time but he needs to pass more often and learn that he can’t always run into the box! The run by Coquelin where he opened his body and burst forward was good. Monreal was rock solid against pace. Cech , Monreal combined well to keep that shot out. Giroud had an… Read more »
2-1 Arsenal and top of the league, Chelsea lose, one sent off, Fabregas subbed between halves and slated by fans and, and , AND Mourinho sent to the stands for trying to intimidate the ref.
Gentlemen, Chelsea are at 15 and 3 from relegation we are TOP OF THE LEAGUE!
Conceding a goal at the stroke of the half-time and then preserving a one goal lead for the win. Now that is some character!
I love you, Petr.
I almost got heart attack on the final 20 minutes.
But we are top of the table!
Özil, I totally expect him to be in line for the Player of the Season. Have been in love with him since his Werder Bremen days when he broke onto the world stage and finally the English press wakes up to the fact that he is a bloody genius. I am convinced that he is the love child of Bergkamp and Zidane.
We are top top
Flamini is now attack-minded player, should have scored! Good win today and top of league. COYG!
Very very impressed by giroud today…made great use of the ball today.
Ozil in this form is simply the best number 10 in the league(yes better than silva). 7 assists already and we’re not even halfway into the season.
Ox looking rusty and will get better with more games. he needs to take advantage of Ramsey’s absence.
Cech was great today as well…2 saves which he made today that ospina and scz wouldn’t have made. Solid leadership presence.
Close game but a well earned win.
Özil’s on Fire! i thought he was a star above all others
This team has given us a very good response to the stuttering start against West ham and Liverpool.
Also good to see we can count on players outside first team, I.e. flamini, ox, Gabriel. Great to see Giroud repay Arsene’s faith.
I am somewhat worried about round of 16 qualification. How can Arsenal qualify? Could someone please give me a low down on that?
The stuttering start against west ham yes.
But we would have beaten Liverpoo if the linesman hadn’t wrongly called Ramseys goal out for O/side.
Petr Cech is magic
he wears a magic hat
when he saw Delofeu having a pop
he said “I am having that”
