Theo Walcott has revealed that a player meeting before the 3-0 drubbing of Manchester United yesterday helped sparked what was the Gunners best performance of the season so far.
There was a lot of valid criticism for the midweek display against Olympiacos, but yesterday everything worked to perfection and the England international says that players got together to make sure they were fully focused against Louis van Gaal’s side.
“The players spoke to each other on our own and we wanted to do this for the fans,” he said.
“It was the Arsenal of old, everything seemed to click. It sends a message to the Premier League we are here to be recognised no doubt.
“That first-half we were unbelievable, no one could have dealt with us. It was the best football I have been involved in. You could sense from kick-off that the desire was there.
“We should be playing like that every week.”
And that really is the key thing, finding consistency, and also some belief, as espoused by Sanit Cazorla.
“We needed to believe after the loss against Olympiacos,” said the Spaniard.
“We needed to change the mentality and today the team was very compact and focused for the game against a big team. This is the most important thing for the team.”
More of these player meetings please
Less of them please. They’re always sparked by abysmal performances. I would much rather we didn’t need another one of these meetings.
to be held before every single arsenal match i would say!
Theo: Now look here chaps, what do you say to the idea that we perform every match to the same standard as we did on Sunday?
Mesut: Spiffing idea!
Alexis: Rather!
Santi: I should cocoa!

Giroud: Shut up Theo
“I should cocoa, no?”
Open outlook.
Create new meeting.

Recurring meeting? Yes (no end date specified)
Reading every bit of news about the game in order to make it feel real, I’m still in disbelief about the first 20 minutes
Walcott should stop talking and focus on playing, didn’t even get a goal at the weekend…
lol
I’m convinced this a poor attempt at sarcasm. It just surely has to be, right?
How hard is it to put :p at thd end of your sarcasm, if so?
Lol……too much happy juice over the weekend?…..he was one of our best players in the united match , period!
Walcott played very well against United, as he usually does against teams that don’t park the bus. I wonder if Wenger will rotate with Giroud for tactical reasons, or if Walcott is now default first choice.
If Walcott continues to improve his holding play he could well be the default first choice. Giroud now has a proper fight on his hands. Hopefully it’ll bring out the best in both of them.
If Walcott keeps up this workrate there may even be occasions where we can play both of them in the same team, although it would be a bit risky at the moment when our only other option is Joel Campbell (no disrespect to him) until Welbeck comes back.
I hope Giroud does get into a fighting mood for the starts, as we will need him. He hasn’t looked himself lately.
Olympiacos parked the bus and he still played well. Was lucky for the goal but an excellent assist. What kind liked most is that he pulled out wide and started dribbling a people like Aguero and Suarez do. That’s what he’ll need to do against tighter defences to make something happen and he’s much better placed to do that than Giroud
Please make sure you hold this meeting again before the Bayern games
So nothing to do with Wenger. Theo for Manager.
Lots of talk of Alexis, Ozil etc and rightly so but I thought Cech was fantastic. I was never worried every time a cross was put in. Handling was superb.
We should be playing every game with the same intensity, not just because we had a stinker in midweek.
That quote from Santi doesn’t seem right, no? something is missing, no? really bugs me, no?
It was from Sanit, not Santi.
I love Sanit Cazorla.
In others news, John Terry is a cunt.. i’m sorry, i see you stated the obvious so i thought i’d do one better..
Well. ..I still say a change is needed. So it took a player’s meeting to make this happen? What was Wenger’s role in improving the team performance? We had these types of performances last year and we didn’t win the league. So I’ll believe this team can win the league when I see it happen.
Please another meeting before meeting Citeh. Now Maureen is thinking ‘thanks Mike Dean, you helped me to escape that. Phew’
Blogs, you spelled Saint Cazorla wrong.
Sounds like 1998 when we lost to Liverpool and Blackburn at home – the line was drawn and we never lost again
The sacking of Brendan Rogers has helped take the spotlight off of the win. Which means less quotes I have had to see from our players talking when all I want them to do is talk on the field. We need to move on as fast as we did from the Champions League defeat. Sitting around sniffing themselves will get them beat at Watford. Thanks for the win!! Now let’s get on with it!
Dislike my previous post, but remember how things were after the Community Shield, the reactions and national attention. See how well they dealt with that at the beginning of the season. I absolutely enjoyed the win, been a painful time losing and drawing against inferior Man U teams since 2011, but it’s one game of many more to come.
Wenger must have borrowed Fergie’s hairdryer for the meeting.
Love the way the gaffer was (finally) issuing instructions from the sideline to Ramsey second half. That’s more like it.
Schedule a meeting before both Bayern legs if that’s the case. If we can come away with 3 points from one of them, we are in with a shout.
Yow Bloggs,is Sanit Carzola our new signing from Delhi? 😉
That competition between Giroud and Walcott will go on for quite a while. If Walcott scores in a game, be sure Giroud will come in off the bench and match him.
Regardless of how we see it, some things are at least clear;
1. There was an “Arsenal of old”
2. The Arsenal of old can do it in 20 instead of 90 minutes.
3. Sunday’s performance brought back memories of the “Arsenal of old”
That Arsenal of is the club we all fell in love with and players have a duty to recreate and reproduce that “Arsenal of old” week in, week out.
COYG!!!!
*Arsenal of old is the club we fell in love with.
