Arsene Wenger has hit out at Norwich City’s Ryan Bennett after his shove sent Alexis Sanchez flying into a camera pit at Carrow Road last weekend.
The Chilean was off his feet when the 25 year old central defender clearly pushed him in the back, with Sanchez lucky to escape serious injury.
Speaking today, Wenger hit out at both the player and the set-up at Carrow Road which has those kind of camera positions so close to the pitch.
“First of all, it’s dangerous to have a camera there,” he said. “Secondly, he didn’t need to push him like he did. He could have killed him. I think the camera position was absolutely dangerous.
“When Alexis was pushed it did not shock anybody. Nobody suggested that he could displace his back or his hamstring. The injury can come from that as well.”
If you look at the footage again, it’s more and more obvious it was a snide, dangerous people of play that could have ended up with Alexis suffering a bigger injury than a hamstring strain.
But let’s not talk about that, eh?
Malice with intent to maim by another ‘not that type of player.’
And for the ‘referee’, his assistants and their employer, no polite words do them justice
also only one journo, patrick barclay, made any sort of fuss about it, he was the only one to say Bennett should be banned for the dangerous bit of action. Would also point out that the PFA have really let not only Alexis down, but all their members, that they have not demanded that these sort of dangerous camera pits be made safe, after all not only would it be easily done, but it is the job of the PFA to help safeguard their members. I bet if it had been Rooney or Kane that had been pushed into the… Read more »
same thing that ugly guy from Stoke did against DeBuchy. You would get a suspension for that in contact sports, so why weren’t these reviewed?
city losing 2-0 to the orcs right now.
god damn FA. Alexis took it well, if he had reacted and made a meal of it the FA might have looked into it.
Same as AurnataBitch on Debuchy vs stoke at home last season… No FA action…
That asshole should get a long ban. Waited til Alexis was in the air and then pushed him. How is he getting away with it!?!? Fucking refs suck in the PL.
Its totally mad
Even Rugby outlaws that
Very dangerous
Really can’t believe this has got swept under the carpet. The player hung himself with stupid comments that he was trying to stop him by grabbing him. Clearly wasn’t. Don’t think he could have killed him and wish he wouldn’t have said that. Reminds my of old red nose and van twat. But he certainly could have caused a bad injury. Should have got 3 matches.
Yes, it’s pretty unlikely he could have been killed, but it’s a concrete pit with hard edged corners. I don’t think it’s too outrageous to suggest that he could have broken his neck if he fell just the right way. I’ve always thought the advertising boards being so close was dangerous enough with players slamming into and flying over them all the time, but to me this is even worse.
The odd thing about things like this, or Arnautovic’s shove on Debuchy which seems to have really affected his game long-term, is that if they are seen by the ref you can’t imagine anything other than a stern word would be handed out, but the damage they can do is really quite bad. I remember van persie did his ankle falling down one of the pits and while it was funny because it was him, it highlights the danger of falling down them even when it’s your own momentum, let alone a totally unexpected shove. Personally think it should be… Read more »
Not that type of player, just like that Orc Arnautovic isn’t that type of player. Of course those cunts are that type of player, if they really weren’t that type of player they wouldn’t doing that shit.
They both should have got three month bans. Shoving someone like that when they are out of control is hideously dangerous and can cause serious injuries – as Debuchy well knows.
Should be a red card for serious foul play.
If an Arsenal player had done that to anyone else, the FA would be calling for a lifetime ban plus public dismemberment.
Smeg me, I should really not try to type when I’m angry.
… wouldn’t BE doing …
… three MATCH bans …
Only brought this up now?
The very same moment I was screaming red card… The guy didn’t even get a slap on a wrost
What a cowardly move. It always seems to be the football nobodies!
Remember the Charlie Adam strangle of Alexis? That went unpunished too. These type of antics really tarnish the game for me.

I too screamed at the TV when the incident happened.
I’m not surprised that the FA have done f.a about it mind.
That are exactly my thoughts. Why on earth were those cameras positioned there. It’s dangerous. One of these days, one of their players would get himself injured there. I hope that teaches them a lesson.
Come on people. Was it a snidy, horrible shove? yes. Was it why Alexis’ hamstring went? No. Bennett should be punished, but let’s not allow our club to deflect our injury many injury problems onto scapegoats.
Actually you can’t say that. That might have been one of the major straw even if it wasn’t the one that broke the camel’s back
Possibly true. Just seems unlikely given the time between that and his full pelt sprint resulting in the hammy pang. We can all agree Bennett is a twat.
Where’s the retrospective ban?
Yeah, dirtbag and cowardly move. (Imagine the media furor if Arsenal players acted like this? Sigh).
It’s almost as if the refs think they don’t have to bother when something takes place out of bounds. Unless it’s a manager hurting their precious feelings of course, then it’s very, very, serious.
Yes, it’s a lot like when a defender goes through a striker after a shot, or a defender gets kettled by a ‘strikers challenge’ after a clearance. The referees don’t do fuck all about those afters because that’s convenient for them to ignore. But players can and do get hurt badly by these things, and isn’t preventing that the entire purpose of the rules about challenges and violent conduct?
This is a popular method among the bottom half teams that if you are physical with the arsenal players and strong in challenges you can disrupt their rhythm and possibly get a result. Our players need to be stronger and up for a fight when a game is played that way. No, no I’m not talking about this Alexis incident but in general. In the days of the invincibles you never saw these cheap tactics being successful because that team inspite of being technically excellent were also physically intimidating. This is also one of the reasons we are getting more… Read more »
in the days of the invincibles this would not have happened, is such utter nonsense, how easily some forget how many times even our title winning players were kicked out of and bullied out of games. We had an awful record v the northern sides back in the day. Bolton, Blackburn, Leicester, Wigan to name a few, all kicked and bullied their way to pts v Arsenal team/squads full of the players who became the invincibles, just look at the season before and the season after 04 and there are many results where AFC were unable to stand up to… Read more »
As for making teams think twice by giving it back, well we already have the lowest ratio of fouls to yellow cards, and get reds on a very regular basis.
the reason AFC get kicked from pillar to post is not cos we don’t give it back or are not brave enough, it is cos the BPL have inept or dare I say corrupt refs.
He was terrorizing them all over the pitch so Bennet thought that was the right time to solve a certain Chilean problem. What an absolute pleb he is.
Should have been a red card and players that cause malicious injury to other players should be forced to sit out the same amount of games as the player they savaged – we would never have seen shawcross again – this would make managers think twice about telling their players to rough up the opposition!!!
What a stupid pit next to the pitch. They should ban that ditch it’s must be a health and safety issue if there ever was one. That’s at least a metre drop.
How Bennett can lie and say he was trying to stop is ridiculous.
True. If he were and he cared about Alexis’ well being, he’d have given him a big hug instead!
