Boss casts doubt over the rest of Cazorla’s season

Arsene Wenger hasn’t ruled out the possibility of losing Santi Cazorla for the rest of this season after the Spaniard damaged knee ligaments against Norwich on Sunday.

The injury was sustained early in the second half, but Cazorla said he was okay to carry on despite ‘big pain’ and the Guardian explain what might have happened here:

Wenger understands that when the lateral ligament is only partially torn and is, effectively, still hanging on, it can pull and cause extreme discomfort whereas a complete rupture can lead to less stability in the knee but, strangely, less pain.

Cazorla could not make sharp movements but he was able to struggle through the game in straight lines. It would seem more likely that Cazorla has suffered the rupture.

Speaking about the injury, the Arsenal manager revealed a chat with Cazorla, saying, “I said: ‘Santi, are you all right?’ he said he was OK. He loves so much to play.

“Sometimes, you don’t know how bad it is – he did not know how bad it was either. He said he had a big pain but he could play on. It could be a rupture.

“What happened to him was that the ball was in the air, he wanted to pick it out and he didn’t see O’Neil, who came in and went through him. I don’t know if he needs an operation or if it will be the whole season.

“I have to wait until we have a complete assessment from the specialist. We know his external knee ligament has been touched, and he might have a capsular problem as well, but I don’t know for how long he will be out.”

It seems more and more likely that seeing Cazorla again this season would be a bonus. It’s sad news for him and for the team.

Get well soon, you lovable little guy.

Ok, now we’re fucked.

Ye gods!

Let’s hope all these terrible injuries really bring the team together and makes them hungrier than ever to win this league. With Ozil in the form of his life, there’s still hope.. I think. I don’t even know anymore.

Ozil's eyes

By the time everyone is fit Ozil will be suffering from overplaying related injuries. On the bright side everyone will back from injury very timely indeed to cement our trademark 4th place.

The last line says it all. What a lovable little guy. This is very sad news.

Wenger you are a fool to let cazorla and Sanchez keep playing when they are not fit

And you, my friend, are incredibly irritant

What of Hayden? I think he has more chance of pulling off a coq than Gidion.

No two players have passed to each other more in the league than Santi and Ozil.
I fear this may effect our German maestro as well :/

Sanchez Crocked. Carzola crocked. Season crocked.

All together now, when the ball hits your head and you’re sat in row Z that’s Cazorlaaa…

Arsepedant

You should remove the “richard” part from your name.

Santi an important maestro missing from the team, Ozil & Ramsey pairing, ox on the left campbell on the right unless theo makes it, gonna be a long December, then hoping on rosisky’s return, welbeck, sanchez & wilshire might not be any merry in xmas this side of january

cygan'sbaldspot

I hope wenger doesn’t rush kos back for the Sunderland game. He is one of our top 4 most important players and Gabriel should be more than cabable of a shift at Sunderland, especially at home.

It’s hard to find anything to be positive about now in fairness. Cazorla worth can’t be expressed enough. It’s all on Ramsey to stay for now… But I think we all know what’s more than likely going to happen.

Arsetrophysix

I can’t help but think this is the point Ramsey takes over from Cazorla. Ramsey was so good two years ago when Santi was a winger so when Santi’s partnership with Coq developed it became a conundrum forcing him out to the ring. Santi was linked back to Athletico and at that point Ramsey was the more effective player. The tables turned somewhat but now I think you’re going to see Ramsey cement his place in the middle.

Spooner

A lot of people seem to forget that Ramsey was our best player a couple of years ago…

3rd attempt at this message. suffice to say people at my xmas party dont agree with who im socialising with right now. “I said: ‘Santi, are you all right?’ he said he was OK. He loves so much to play. Im sorry but fuck Arsenal, just hope he’s ok. Man you remember him signing? I didnt know much about him but I remember thinking ‘WE’VE GOT A MIDFIEDLER IN THE SPAIN SQUAD’. We should list out marquee signings Cazorla, Ozil and Sanchez even if Wenger did do an old school champ manager move and sign star players from a bankrupt… Read more »

I remember back when I was a young boy and I was sitting naked on a rock by the sea dangling my feet in the water. Suddenly I realized there was a Mosquito sitting on my balls helping itself to my blood. This moment in my life ended up as a valuable life lesson to me because it was when I first learned that not everything can be solved through violence. To this day with the uncertain times we live in I often think back to that day and wonder if more kids in their childhood had the same experience… Read more »

I actually like the fact that now it will be time for Ramsey to shine. I fully believe he can and WILL. I actually prefers him to Cazorla from the beginning as i always feels that cazorla lose too many balls easily and miss control a pass from teammates too often bcoz his legs are too short. Don’t get me wrong, hes a great player. Although, i like Ramsey all round game better

Die Hard Gooner

The dumbest comment I have seen in a long while. Cazorla losing balls? Questioning his technique? wow you my friend dont watch him play.

It is what it is I guess. Missing the Euros would be terrible for him. I just hope the smilling magician is back sooner than expected.

Iamtheantisp*r

As bummed as I am about all these injuries, I can’t help but be gutted for all the players. The ones who are hurt can’t play, feel they’re letting their teammates down and know how injuries can hurt a season. Likewise the healthy players understand how detrimental this can be to a team that is so close to winning more trophies. Of course those on the sidelines who must now step in are happy to be able to play, but having been a part of so many teams in my own life, I always think of what the players themselves… Read more »

Injured Gooner :(
Heroldgoon

Wenger indeed messed up with Cazorla and Sanchez. He has to take some blame, you simply cannot rely on a players word of mouth. Of course he will want to play on.

Now we’re forced to rush Walcott back and who knows what that might end up like.

Mizog

Spouting ya usual bolox

I think we have good squad depth for the first time in years but even this injury crisis is testing that. Fortunately, Ramsey is just back in time. As much as I feel for Carzola, who is not young, I am looking forward to see if Ramsey and some of the other squad can bring a successful and new dynamic to the midfield.

Sam

dress it up any way you like, but this is not, and never should be, the player’s own decision….Wenger: “He said he had a big pain but he could play on” If the medical staff say a player is clearly in a lot of pain, the manager must take him off straight away. He could only run in a straight line yet was left on for most of the 2nd half?!!! Santi might not play again this season and may miss the last Euros of his career. Could quite plausibly have been a lesser injury if he’d come off straight… Read more »
