For the fifth time in seven years Mesut Ozil has been voted Germany’s Player of the Year by his compatriots.
The Arsenal playmaker, who has been in majestic form for club and country in 2015, secured 45.9% of the 51,000 votes cast, beating Bayern Munich’s Thomas Muller (15.9%) and Cologne’s Jonas Hector (13.6%) into second and third respectively.
The German Football Federation (DFB) shared the following stats about Ozil’s performances for Die Mannschaft in 2015.
- He played eight out of nine international matches.
- He was on the pitch an average 94.38 mins / game.
- He ran a total of 92.71 kilometres in eight games.
- He had 14 shots on goal.
- He made six assists.
- He made 612 passes in the year – an average of 76.5 / game.
Ozil, who has secured three consecutive Arsenal player of the month awards, will no doubt be hoping to continue his fine form into the second half of the season and beyond.
Germany head to Euro 2016 as the tournament’s favourites this summer and will be looking to emulate the dominance achieved by France (98/00) and Spain (08/12), both of whom held World and European crowns simultaneously.

Actually the german media also more often than not picks on Özil for not being present enough. He got slaughtered during the World Cup, though he played every game and germany won the cup, everybody was hating özil the whole time.
