According to The Times, Arsenal will reward Alex Iwobi’s first team breakthrough with an improved contract just six months after the Nigerian international committed his future to the club.
The 19-year-old signed a new deal in October after impressing during pre-season friendlies and has since made 14 appearances in all competitions this season.
It’s claimed that the Nigerian international, who scored his first Premier League goal in a man-of-the-match performance against Everton on Saturday, could see his pay packet rise to £10,000 a week.
Arseblog News is slightly skeptical about the detail in The Times report – not because we think improved terms aren’t a real possibility – but because it neglects to mention the contract penned in October and claims the Gunners academy graduate is currently on £750 a week; a figure that seems very low given he was elevated to the first team at the start of the season.
It wouldn’t be the first time Arsene Wenger has quickly nailed down the future of a flourishing talent. In 2013, Serge Gnabry was handed a five-year deal – reportedly worth £20,000 a week – just a month after opening his account at Swansea. The German under-21 international has struggled ever since with injuries stunting his development.
It pays kids..football pays
dont be DJ like your dad
£750 a week for Iwobi as compared to da tings ££££££££££ a week…holy crap we’re being robbed!
Hope we pay him a lot more in the future as he develops and becomes a top top player.
Off topic I know we are under performing this year. I realize that the time for Wenger to go might be sooner rather than later. But the sort of comments on the previous article for Wenger are really disrespectful. I realize that many supporters are disappointed with his performance this season and I am too. But the way some of us are going about it is extremely disrespectful considering he’s the most successful manager in our club’s history. The sort of animosity we’re showing is comparable to Steve McLaren at Newcastle. I don’t buy into the argument that we’ve been… Read more »
It eons ago. And I too am sorry for going at Wenger but either you look at it. the Animosity has been there for quite some time and whether its his loyalty to his some would argue outdated principles or just sheer arrogance to stay on.
He definetly deserves this stick. to me. over the top I know but maybe it will bring us to this 2 best possible solutions.
Wenger buys stars wins everything
Wenger steps the fuck down.
you know it’s over the top, but he definitely deserves it?
pipe down mate. get behind your team
I am. Should have used ‘warrants’ Instead of deserves. Theo is another.
Can someone translate? I’m not fluent in gibberish.
Well said brother
I know he could be so stubborn but as long as he is our manager he deserves our full backing.
In Arsene we trust
Whats with the “In Arsene we trust”? I thought the fans had finally gotten past all that bollocks. Sometimes change is good. He has had a good run in the job, but clearly cant take the team any further. If we ever want to be Champions again then we need someone else a the helm, but there seems to be a fear permeating through the club at taking any kind of risk. Are people really only happy with 4th place every year?
Agree, Wenger is the most respectable manager in the league. Just to point out that Real, Barcelona and PSG fans would have been worse with Wenger. Not winning a clasico and even the CL is a big problem with the first two. Wenger’s concept of results vs timing in football do not match these teams.
Real Madrid or Barca would have sacked him the minute he didnt bring in the Champions League for more than one season. Wenger has shown incapable to do that even with his own “Galacticos” so enought with the bullshit. If you want to worship him till you die thats fine but you dont speak for all Gooners. ARSENAL FC has done plenty for Arsene Wenger of Grampus 8 fame and sacking at Monaco
Arsenal wasn’t even compared to those teams before wenger.
excellent post. agree 100% especially the part about some blaming wenger for losses but giving him no credit for wins.
Well said, Bosscielny. Well said.
“We only really know what we had till we don’t have it anymore.”
agree with almost everything except the real Madrid bit (and Barcelona to a lesser extent). their fans certainly don’t deserve him. they are among the stupidest, most fickle and spoilt supporters out there. Better to say modern day football doesn’t deserve him.
He’s got big potential and a big future.
I think he deserves a new contract as he’s shown a great improvement since breaking through into the first team. Lets hope the other youth players show the same level effort and commitment.
It goes to show if you work hard, Wenger will recognise this and give you a chance!
Why buy when we can create…we can now build from within…allow the manager to do his thing. Our present players need to start to perform as expected. We have the tools to get the job done. COYGs.
Can we just give him Theo’s deal, and pretend that 2015/16 Theo never existed? 😉
I hate 2015/16 Theo.
Me too.
Mmmmnh…nice comment there Bosscielny infact I like the part when u said his contract will soon end and we should keep supporting him till then, fine but right now who is he pleasing with all his efforts, the club, the board or the fans? My point is he created the problem by himself, gave the new stadium as an excuse for not winning trophies but4th place and champs league, and promised to improve the following season (with top top quality players and silverware) the fans were patient and the board were getting fatter while the fans were being drained of… Read more »
I must’ve dreamt those two fantastic days at Wembley then. Silly me.
What a bizarre world we live in where I can look at a footballer set to earn £10k per week and think “Is that all?!” But, you know, in that fantasy world, Theo is “earning”, what, 12-15 times that?!?
If true- and it would be well earned, Congratulations Alex! You’re lighting up the pitch, and may it long continue.
Congratulation Iwobi; well deserved.
Do feel a bit sorry of Campbell however. I think he’s been offered a new contract but is yet to sign – quite understandably imho. He’s definitely paid his dues and, took his chance when called upon. And yet unfortunately, I think his future lays elsewhere.
Shame.
