Arsenal have announced that Matt Macey has signed a new contract at the club.
The 21 year old has found himself part of the matchday squad in recent weeks, providing back-up for David Ospina who has come into the team in the absence of Petr Cech.
The Czech international is expected back in the squad after the international break, while the Colombian has reminded people of his quality with some impressive saves – even if results haven’t been so good.
Macey has yet to make an appearance for Arsenal, but did have a 4 game loan spell last January at Accrington in League 2.
They lost all 4 games.
Anyway, good luck to the young man who also has a returning Wojciech Szczesny and Emi Martinez to deal with in the Arsenal pecking order this summer.
Will Scnzny return to sit on our bench?
When he is playing regularly for a decent Roma side.
He certainly won’t be going back to Roma, they’ve taken on a new, young, well rated keeper.
He didn’t get a game v Everton even though Ospina had bust a leg (or something similar).
Good luck to him.
Yes, I chuckled at that.
They must have plenty of faith in his ability if they would rather have a dizzy limping Ospina on the pitch instead of him.
While he’s still young, it’s obvious that Wenger doesn’t trust him at the moment. Good luck to the lad, though.
For a position we’ve seemed to have trouble with in the past, we sure are stacked there now considering we will get Szczesny and Martinez set to come back. Suspect we will sell Szczesny, keep Martinez next season, and send Macey out for a season loan.
yeah, Martinez and Ospina to duke out for the bench.. I have high hopes for Emi boy.. Ospina is also a very good option, hope we keep him.
He may have lost those 4 games, but he is very tall…
An interesting final point there. Do we have a place for Szezcznznzy any more? 7 months ago I’d have said hell yeah, now I’d say um no.
bless you
Szczesny has been allright for Roma. 26 games, 6 clean sheets, Averaging 2 saves per game, making 2.36 saves per goal conceeded or an Average of 0.92 goals conceeded per game which is good. Not Fantastic nor Great, But its Allright. Cech has not been close to his best seasons for Chelsea But in 28 games played he got 12 clean sheets, Averaging 2.39 saves per game and making 2.68 saves per goal conceeded. Yet he conceeds on average 1.00 goal per game which is actually 0.08 more than Szczesny. This ofcourse is because when we do decide to conceed… Read more »
He’s been his usual self. Generally quite a good keeper but prone to amazingly poor errors. The other day he let in a really poor one vs Inter, he’s thrown the ball into his own net a couple times, he fairly regularly throws or kicks the ball straight out to an opposition player in a dangerous position, etc.
Maybe this is a signing with an eye on home-grown player numbers?
We have plenty of home grown. We don’t need to be worrying about that. Ramsey, Walcott, Ox, Jack, Chambers, Gibbs, Bellerin, Iwobi, Coquelin indeed Szsc. Worth noting as well we have been waay better in recent seasons assimilating younger players into the first team at less cost to performance (if anything some of the younger players have been the better performers) In part, Wenger has restructured and (PAINFULLY thanks to key departures for several seasons) added experience then quality into all positions. Jeff, Gnabry, Akpom, Zelalem, Hayden, Willock, Bennacer… There’s a never ending pipeline. One of the key aspects of… Read more »
There goes Sczezneys Arsenal career
I make silly errors, am prone to rash judgment, and keep an injury going of some sort or another. No one’s ever heard of me and I’ll work for cheap.
Sign me up, Arsene.
Has anybody seen him play? Is he any good? At 21 its make or break for him at this level. If he gets a chance he has to grab it.
