Ranieri: Vardy will have final word on Arsenal offer

Claudio Ranieri says he wants to keep Jamie Vardy at Leicester, and that the striker hasn’t yet accepted the offer from Arsenal.

Confirming that the Gunners are willing to pay the full release clause, believed to be around £20m plus add-ons to activate it ahead of specific date, the Italian told Sky Sports Italia that the 29 year old has made no decision yet either way.

“We want to keep him,” he said. “Arsenal have said they will pay the full release clause, but he hasn’t accepted yet. He gets the last word.”

So, not much more than we didn’t already know but it seems like Vardy is still deliberating, rather than having made his mind up one way or the other at this stage.

In your next Vardy update we’ll bring you news of how there’s only a tiny bit of new information which isn’t really new but more of a variation on a theme.

We can’t wait.

Arsenal Team Doctor

Imagine Jamie Vardy being a central part of your life this summer.

In other words, I don’t mind what Vardy does either way.

Jamie Vardinho aka Marlo Stanfield

lol @ this username

Might seem obvious but I hope we’re aggressively working on other transfer targets while this sage of Odysseyian proportions carries on.

'Murica

Omar comin. Come for the king you best not miss

Jamie Vardinho

“Oh shit its Omar!”

Everyone runs inside

lmao

Paul

I have no idea what all the post above are “getting at” 🙁

Paul

Thank you

Paul

Can either of those dudes play upfront?

Thaatarsenalguy

Let’s remain calm until England get home next week and he can sign da ting

Indian Gooner

Haha.. Well said mate!
England are going to be back home soon, Thanks to Mr. Roy Hodgson.
Arsenal and Vardy are going to have a lot of time to make a decision.
So let’s calm our Tits down.

Fletcher

How about going for Chicharito…just a thought.

Venga

Hopefully he decides to stay with Leicester. Can’t have this scumbag anywhere near my football club.

Ex-Priest Tobin

At least some people get it. He’s a one season wondercunt. Needs to stay where he belongs.

DAMOBOT

I guess he is contemplating what life on the bench would do to his career as his wife is already spending the extra money in Harrods

Tony Malibu

Hear hear. Complete yob.

SB

Ranieri remains a decent man!

lonsdale

Can he play up front?

Super Joshi

I’ve been wondering if Ospina can too.

Cas

😀

Gooneron

Let’s go for Mahrez who atleast is flattered to be linked with Arsenal

Rectum_Spectrum

read the article. he asked asked about links to PSG, chelsea, Arsenal and others and says he is flattered to be linked ‘with such clubs’.

Eternal Titi Berg Pat Nostalgia

Ranieri just tells the truth, no game playing and I love that. Arsenal should give Vardy a deadline to decide. Past that deadline, Arsenal should announce they are not pursuing him anymore. Arsenal should also engage in negociations with another striker while Vardy is still undecided and make this clear to Vardy.

Perry S.

well hopefully we’re already pursuing other options, and hopefully someone will be close to signing to make vardy sweat.

Harsh

wow, you should take over the transfer negotiation team at arsenal.

Stillmatic

Who are these other fabled available strikers?

Because based on the early stages of the Euros (and it may be early), but right now there is a famine of genuine top class strikers in Europe, let alone available world class ones.

And the strikers currently doing well at the Europa? They’re all already well known forces (messi, Suarez, Higuain, Cavani, only Hernandez would be available).

Wenger wasn’t lying, it really is a paucity of options out there.

loose_cannon

Well as you said, it’s VERY early to be drawing conclusions. And very misleading to judge a striker on a single international tournament…

Xxxrob

I quite like what I saw of Milik from Poland. Yes.. He did score a goal but all round seems like a good player, good size to him and he’s 22.

Fake empire

Younger Giroud(not as handsome). I like it.

Donegal wizard

I don’t understand why we are not going for Mahrez?
Wouldn’t he be a better fit with how we play , plus he is much younger.

Perry S.

not a striker?

Rectum_Spectrum

we need both!

SB

It’s not mutually exclusive.

Plus, our right could be improved a lot (though to be fair even through internal solution if Ox fulfils his potential). Walcott, Ox have not had great seasons there. Ramsey, Wilshere prefer not to play there. Campbell has played quite well but the manager doesn’t trust him.

Maybe Vardy would get arguably 8-10 goals max more replacing Giroud. However, someone like Mahrez in my two cents will have a better impact than Vardy at the striker position both in terms of scoring as well as assisting.

Stillmatic

Striker is our priority, that there is no question. If its a choice of getting a world class striker (imagine if Vardy was for a second, lol) or a WC winger, it’s safe to say most would consider striker the main priority.

And unlike the striking options, there are plenty of wide midfielders to choose from. Talk of serious interest with us and that Mythikran fella has been doing the rounds for a while anyways.

Va

I will be happy if he comes.
I will be happy if he doesn’t come.
I expect that Wenger is working on other players already in case Vardy doesn’t come.

Lord Bendtner

We should get Kim Kallstorm, he is gonna have some good Euros fitness in his benefit. He would be an amazing addition, nothing could go wrong.

Bendtner's Ego

He actually played ok for Arsenal on the loan spell and even converted a penalty if I remember correctly.

Jamie Vardinho

Kim Kallstrom as far as I was aware came with a good reputation as a great player, particularly from dead ball situations.

It’s unfortunate that the context of his arrival and Arsenals fans doing fuck-all research on him, damaged perceptions of him.

Godfrey Twattschlock

Good on set pieces and lummoxy enough to not be pushed over by certain teams who like to play that way. I think it was a waste to not use him me than we did.

Just watched him in the Sweden – Ireland game and he looked a bit pale. The crosses and corners weren’t there like they used to be. He must be 34-35 now so it’s fair enough if he’s not as good as he once was.

Cape Town Gooner

We didn’t use him more than we did because he arrived with a broken back. Literally!

Godfrey Twattschlock

After his injury had healed he played four times between 25/3 and 17/5. Ten games. I’d say we could have used him more.

Easy as JVC

I heard he’s carrying an injury.

assistantref

It wouldn’t be the summer without a tedious “will he? won’t will? will he?” saga, now would it?

Hleb's dancing feet

I just want an Arsenal player to score 20-25 PL goals next season. I really don’t care who that player is at this point. We must go all out to acquire such a player, even if that means letting Vardy deliberate. To be honest I can see why it’s a bit hard for him to come to a decision. He has already risen from the lower leagues to claim the EPL tittle(not the case with Ian Wright). I think he should consider the possibility that Leicester probably will not finish I’m the top 4 next year

Arsene Wenger

We could remedy the biggest mistake the club ever made and bring back Bendtner.

I’m certain given a mental strength addon he will be top top class.

gee

I don’t think he is good enough for us technically, never played CL (not really cutting it for england), he would be only useful on counter attacks and i think we should move on anyway if he is has to ‘think’ about it (whats there to think of?). I can understand that you dont have to be the best player on the pitch to be a good finisher(inzaghi) but i really not a fan and he is a serious diver too. i would rather bring back Benik before him thats how highly i rate vardy. i def don’t think he… Read more »

Arsene Wenger

I too find myself thinking ok, bring Vardy in but also a top striker, maybe?

Stillmatic

I think Afobe will have a breakthrough season next.

loose_cannon

I love how he’s only just gone and won the league, second top goalscorer, but he’s not “good enough for us technically”. What does that say about our style of play? About what we expect vs what we get? If Vardy and Xhaka (and keeping Theo) are anything to go by, I think Wenger might finally be making some LONG overdue revisions to our philosophy

gee

Im just saying leicester don’t often have to face teams with 11 players in their last 40 yards of the pitch as regular as we do. in those tight spaces i think we need clever player with silky smooth touch, that has pace, who can create space by movement, 1-2 passing and a very good finisher (unicorn of strikers). in my humble opinion i dont think vardy is it. Danny welbeck at least is 2 of those things. Can you see vardy leading the line away to barcelona? Xhaka looks technically very good. and if theo (placid) had vardy balls then… Read more »

gee

Plus he has to bloody think about joining the greatest club the world has ever seen. What??????? xhaxa, ozil, sanchez, carzolla, henry, viera etc jumped at the chance, but vardy has to think about it. wow

John C

“i think we need clever player with silky smooth touch, that has pace, who can create space by movement, 1-2 passing and a very good finisher”

You’ve just described Vardy, with the added bonus of having a set of balls, something none of our attackers with the exception of Sanchez possess.

I think the pursuit of Vardy is one of the most sensible things Wenger’s done in a long time.

Geefive

I’ll admit it. I’m totally indifferent on this possible transfer. This has made me more casual in my interest this year in the transfer season, which in turn has freed up more time to do other things, such as getting more fishing in, playing with the kids, smoking a various assortment of meats, and tending to the hot pepper garden a lot more than usual. It makes me wonder why I always got so stressed about who/what Arsenal were working on signing….plenty of time to do that come mid-August. So, whether you sign it, or you don’t, Thanks Vardy.

santori

World Class player to score 20-25 goals Hard to say who will rise to the occasion. You could get someone touted as ‘world class’ like Morata (who has scored less than Giroud but has potential) and he may flatter to deceive like Torres. You can also get someone who is a proven winner like Zlatan but at an older age and he may have just lost the hunger and a bit of pace. Ideally you’d want to bring in someone in their prime say Higuain or Benzema or Cavanni but also remember there are 7-8 clubs in Europe who can… Read more »

OD

Falcao had a serious knee injury which basically ruined him. he didn’t just become a bad player overnight.

Torres certainly didn’t flatter to deceive before his injury problems at Liverpool. He was excellent

Nordin

In counter attack football we will need someone like Vardy to capitalise on the pace of ball being moved forward & also the precision of the ball played, especially from Özil, Carzola….
So yeah to him signing for us so that we have that potent weapon in our arsenal to capitalise on games where counter attacking style is a real option for us

Andy Mack

As we only play a few games where counter attacking is possible, do you think he’ll stay sharp enough sitting on the bench in the other games?

steve

I enjoyed those ciders in celebration of him not signing lol will I now need some to drown my sorrows?

NewSeason

What’s most important to glean from this is that we’re paying the full release clause.

Not adding any extra quids. I think we should add another pound.

Andy Mack

His clause may say 20m is the trigger.
If it said over 20m then another pound would be necessary but it looks like it isn’t.

GunnerDareMACEDONIA

OK, I don’t like the dragging on but if you can read between the lines I think LC asked vardy and arsenal the transfer to be completed after the euros so LC can buy a replacement (which they started immediately offering 20m for Deny and now they are chasing Sporting Lisbon striker which will cost the same) and LC fans don’t get hurt, they like to soften the blow, even in Ranieri’s comment he doesn’t mention like I’m sure vardy wants to stay, or not accepting the offer immediately proves like he wants to stay with us, or stuff like… Read more »

Vonnie

I don’t want Vardy and if he can’t make up his mind then he doesn’t want us enough either. I’d be really happy if we cancelled this offer and moved on.

Too Drunk To Be Offside

Look on the bright side, Hodgson has given Vardy a lot of space to make a decision, as he sits on the fking subs bench.

Jamie Vardinho

If Arsenal is to win the title we need to:

Sell Ramsey/Wilshere

Sell Mertesacker

Sell Ozil

Sell Monreal

Keep Elneny

and buy Witsel, Fellaini, David Luiz and Marcelo,

Keep Gabriel as well, I know he’s got an afro in him.

Together with Elneny we will have an Afro-All Star team and win loads of headers and lay-offs.

Anonymarse

If we buy Fellaini I’m supporting a different team

Jamie Vardinho

Why? His and Ramsey’s Europop haircuts are in perfect sync

Jon

You even made a half decent observation on Kallstrom before the Fellani comment….

Jamie Vardinho

this entire afro related post was a joke but i think it went over some peoples heads…

RICKGUNNER

What if he is another Giroud. Let’s get someone who is a big name star with the pedigree.

Jakemilla

What if he is another Giroud? I swear I will never understand comments like that. He is a very good striker. So many talk as though he is completely useless.

Black

Giroud is a very good striker, it baffles me that fans give him such a hard time. He scores more than Rooney and most big name strikers.

ChrisGoona

Taking a sly dig at Giroud just demonstrates a lack of footballing knowledge. Giroud was in front of the likes of Costa and Augero in conversion rate at times early in the season and last season overall I believe. He is an ever-present in terms of fitness too. Imagine if Arsenal signed Higuain, would he have stayed fit and available for as much as Giroud has been? Very unlikely. Giroud has given Arsenal a focal point in attack and a platform to overcome our trophy drought. Show some fu*king respect.
