Roma want Szczesny back next season

According to reports Roma want to take Wojciech Szczesny on loan again next season. The Arsenal keeper spent the last campaign with the Serie A club, making 38 appearances for them.

And now, despite the fact they’ve recently purchased a Brazilian stopper called Allison, it seems they want the Polish number 1 to stay with them. They are apparently willing to pay all of his wages, as well as a purchase clause at the end of it.

Speaking earlier this week, Szczesny said any thoughts of what he might do next season are on hold until after the Euros.

“Right now I’m not thinking about my future,” he said.

“My teammates and I are focused exclusively on the Euros. I hope to achieve a good result with Poland, I’ll only think about other things once the tournament is over.”

Ultimately, much will also depend on Arsenal and what happens with our goalkeepers during the summer. David Ospina is being strongly linked with a move away, with keen interest from Besiktas, and Arsene Wenger will want good back up for Petr Cech – something Szczesny could provide.

Definitely an issue for the manager to sort out during this off-season.

Keep him, even if he stays at Roma for another year. No purchase clause!

I’d prefer we are in control.

We have to keep hold of Schezza for me. Been at the club for donkeys, knows how to take the piss out of the Spuds and is capable of this:

Wilshere's Swiss Brother

Another year of gaining experience would be best for him and the club. I still see him as a capable succesor to Cech. That is if he can sort out his attitude problems.

One of the best leagues to learn defence.

Vardy with whiskey, Szczesny with cigar

Szczesny will become a great goalkeeper, I am sure. Just need to cut down on the costly errors but this comes with experience. We also need personalities in the squad not just the soft types like Walcott and Gibb.

Unlikely he’d be happy in something of an understudy role at Arsenal next season, so a return to Roma, on loan, makes great sense. In the long term, I’d like him to stay with us. Clearly loves the club, and whilst that’s not enough alone, there’s a bloody good keeper in there somewhere.

John Griffiths

Still think that he could end up being one of our great goalies. All goalies make mistakes (as do all outfield players) and even PC seems to have a near post weakness. We should get him back.

Cliff Bastin

Have a sweet spot for Ospina because Cech got badly injured early in my FM season and Ospina’s been killing it.

Stewart Robson's therapist

He’s a lovable plonker. But playing in goal for the Arsenal is not a joke. We need a serious individual between the sticks. Up to Szczesny whether he wants to grow up.

Alisson? The world must be killing him

Alex

Keep Szczesny at all cost. He is far better than given credit for. Did you see his brave save in Poland vs. N. Ireland? Brilliant goalkeeping.

Arsenal Team Doctor

Great move for Szczesny to remain another year and gain vital experience.

Meanwhile, my medical team will do its best to cure David Ospina from the willies.

Maybe ospina likes the willies, who are we to judge?

As much as I hate that club, I think we can stand to make a similar situation as Chelsea did with Courtuois and Atletico!

Jamie Vardinho

If we can keep the goalkeeping situation here wrapped up, then by all means he can have another year @ Roma, but DON’T ALLOW that purchase clause to be inserted.

Hopefully another spell will mature him further and he’ll have to be top of his game for Roma to qualify for the the 1st round KO.

Wasn’t too long ago when keeper situation was the weak link. Now we have 3 good options. Things do not stay static unless you are the press. On that note, yesterday, two journeymen scored for Italy, as per usual a much underrated team. Pelle i particular reminds me of an Italian Giroud, again underrated. He isn’t the quickest, doesn’t score that many goals (by comparison to Giroud) but works for the team. You have to ask yourself if you truly think you know what you are going on about when Deschamp starts Giroud as well and not the much fancied… Read more »

How bad did Cavani go at Copa? Missed some golden chances. Daily Mail reports that Vardy gets his energiser bunny fitness from coffee, Red Bull and chewing tobacco. Not illegal but being discussed as possible additions to banned WADA list. Funny old game
