Stefan O’Connor has joined MVV Maastricht on a season long loan deal.
The 19 year old made his Arsenal debut in December 2014, coming on as a substitute in a 4-1 away win over Galatasaray in the Champions League.
Last season he had a brief spell at York City, playing four games in League Two. Mastricht play in the Eerste Divisie, the second tier of Dutch football, and their coach Ron Elsen welcomed his new signing.
He said: “With his imposing stature Stefan is a kopsterke central defender. And despite his height and physical, he has great athletic ability.
“Stefan already shows that he has not come into the picture for nothing at Crystal Palace and Arsenal with his 19-year.
“At his age to train with guys like Ramsey, Sanogo and Podolski is obviously a unique and valuable experience, like his Champions League debut.
“Stefan must be potentially further develop at MVV and compete to become even better. A logical step when you go from Arsenal promises to MVV one.”
He actually spoke more coherently than this, but sometimes a Google translation is better. I really want to know what a kopsterke central defender is. I think it could a central defender that can weave baskets from the entrails of enemy strikers.
Good luck to him out there, hopefully he can use all he’s learned from Yaya to be a success.
kopsterke ~ head strong
Head Strong means being stubborn or ‘koppig’ in Dutch. I think you meant to say he has good Aerial Ability haha
Precies ??
kopsterke means that he is good at headers
That’s a bit less exciting than I thought, but still quite good
kop = head
sterkte = strength
“At his age to train with guys like Ramsey, Sanogo and Podolski is obviously a unique and valuable experience, like his Champions League debut.
Did he actually say Sanogo?!
I imagine training with Sanogo is most definitely a unique experience!
I only logged in to say what you said haha! You beat me to it.
Sanogo was a prolific goal scorer for France youth (18 goals in 18 matches for U17). He also had a very good goal record with Auxerre. I am not sure Benzema was that good at youth level. Can understand why Wenger persisted with the idea he would unlock his goal scoring ability in PL. Hope that happens when he is loaned this year. He should try attacking midfielder or box to box in smaller clubs. Akpom is better on the ball but Sanogo can be more useful for a club using his power.
What an odd selection of players…
Stefan O’Connor for prime minister
training with the rest of the squad was clearly a waste of time for the lad
“Podolski taught him much in social media. His Snapchats will be epic one!”
Good step for the guy!
On another note, whatever happens to Ainsley Maitland-Niles? (I think that’s his name…)
Maitland-Niles was on loan in Ipswich last season but there was some controversy concerning his agent mother, who seems to court trouble wherever she goes. They’re hoping to have him back…

I’m loving the sanogo bashing, I might be in a minority blogs but I think he could be a success in the premiership,
The boy is strong and capable, he is no Francis Jeffers.
I thought I’m the only one who had such opinion
There are at least two others.
Thanks!
I’m from Maastricht and am quiet surprised he has joined MVV. They play in the eerste divisie wich is simular to the english championship, but never really end high in the table. I’m interested to see how he plays.
