Arsenal have confirmed that new signing Shkodran Mustafi will wear the number 20 shirt for the season ahead.
The number, which comes chronologically sequentially after 19 and before 21 will be used to identify the player when he’s on the pitch. Just so there’s no confusion, he’ll also have his name spelled out on the back of the shirt (using the Latin alphabet) above the number.
Now you may think we’re sort of taking the piss by going into this level of detail … but, we do so with good reason.
At the weekend ex-Gunner Emmanuel Frimpong made his debut for Russian side Arsenal Tula with ‘DENCH’ written out in Cyrillic.

You could be on to something being Ozil’s bff…we all know he needs one to fill the void of Flamini. After I saw the video with him and BFG bustin out some moves, all my worries instantly vanished. Right blend of internationals in the team with adequate depth. Can’t remember going into a season 90% satisfied with all that happened but here we are.
I always thought one of the reasons we were after Mustafi was to find a new best friend for Ozil, to replace Flamini.
This add credence to such wild & silly speculation!

Dench! Mustafi is such a well considered buy, We are not just looking at the eventual and inevitable retirement of Per but also to back up Koscielny. And he can also keep an eye on Rback with the unsettled Debuchy and the not as yet confirmed Jenkinson. Plus he is Albanian in descend which is an added benefit with Granit. As mentioned before, timing of signings will happen at their own time. So much of it is not within Arsenal’s control (The selling club and the player himself/agent influence) Plus sometimes, it pays to wait and see if other targets materialise. Not necessarily related; maybe they actually have munitions factories in Tulsa. But I think it’s more likely that teams get named after our Arsenal (this, Arsenal de Sarandi, Arsenal Kyiv I think; I’ll need to read up on their histories).
