Arsene Wenger says that the club will be sitting down soon to finalise contract extensions for Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.
The duo are in the final two years of their current deals, and as two of the club’s major stars, keeping them in North London is imperative. Initial discussions with both parties were held in the second half of last season but no agreements were made at that point.
Speaking this evening ahead of tomorrow night’s Champions League clash with PSG, the manager said, “Ozil and Sanchez, we will start to talk for their extensions.”
Perhaps with the club having spent close to £100m this summer, there’s enough of a show of ambition to convince the two to commit their futures. That and some very round numbers when it comes to their salaries.
They’re not the only ones in this situation though, as Jack Wilshere, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Aaron Ramsey all have less than 2 years left on their deals.

If we can hold onto ozil and alexis for another 2 full seasons, we will have done well. And I wouldn’t begrudge them a move thereafter. We have witnessed a another couple of great players in our kit. COYG

Seriously. That’s be 6 seasons for Ozil and 5 for Sanchez and would take them both to about 29-30 years old. That’s a decent length of time for any footballer at any club

Ozil and Alexis signing a new deal will lift the spirit in the dressing room. Them leaving would set us back 2-3 seasons like when Cesc and Nasri left. I was hoping we’d make a big name signing good enough to convince them this summer, but that’s in the past.

If you put Ramsey on the market, there are big teams that will buy him immediately, some to be part of starting XI, some for the bench.

I really want to be proven wrong but unfortunately recent history is not on our side here. I’d just say prepare for the worst. And pessemism shouldn’t be confused for not being a ‘real’ fan.
If you underestimate the club then you don’t really know this club then you can be worried about these nonsense. Try to get better knowledge of the club’s standing not only in North London but the world, how it’s perceived outside uk then you’ll know they all dream of coming in.

RVP was getting old (age) as I mentioned before, one good season and Wenger cashed him (money). As far as I know he is cashing on him BTW. Nasry is just a mercenary (money). Wenger cashed on him because the area he was playing was crowded. Would you swap Nasry ×2 for a Santi? No and the OX was emerging and still the little Mozart was at it. Tad bollox. I’m not sure anyone believed that either of them were sure to sign. Not sure where that comes from. The situation was vastly different and we were clearly unable to match the financial offers elsewhere. That is not the case now.
These players may have an interest in the manager situation as well. Would they prefer to see Wenger stay, or for a new manager to come in? It’s up in the air at this point so it would be hard to pin them down if this is important to them.

I’m quite optimistic ol regarding Özil and Alexis. Think they’re both happy. They play in a top team in a top league and are both fans favorites. I also think that Jack and the Ox would sign new contracts, if offered. In those 2 cases it’s more the question if Arsenal really want to keep them. I think both will sign because not signing and going to another club is a pretty big risk for both. There are only a few clubs that can be considered a step up from Arsenal and both Ozil and Alexis must realize that neither is guaranteed a starting role (or default first team status) at any such club. If we had bought Alexis and Mesut this Summer, don’t think it’s wild to say we would have been paying £150m. Pay them what they want. They’re irreplaceable in todays market.
Ozil and Sanchez will sign, I hope we won’t have to do much convincing as I hope they still want to play for the red and white shirt. Ramsey too should be offered a new contract. As for Wilshere and Ox, I’ll wait to see how their season pans out. I’ll be more inclined to give Wilshere another year even if this year doesnt go to plan but not sure about Ox.
Debuchy and Sanogo need to go ASAP (they shouldn’t be on the books in February of 2017)

Ox, Walcott, Ramsey, Wilshere, Jenko and Akpom are all playing for their Arsenal careers. I consider them to be dispensable and, to be frank, I’d sell them all next summer if the money is right (Ox-25M; Walcott-30M; Ramsey-35M; Wilshere-30M; Jenko-15M; Akpom-15M).
Ramsey is absolutely not dispensable. And I think you’re very optimistic with your values, even considering over-priced English talent
All of those ‘sell on’ players you list count as homegrown for squads in the premier league, so are worth considerably more.
I’d not look to sell any of them at present, though. Only Debuchy really needs to move along.
I hope Ozil and Sanchez sign, but I can honestly see this being another long drawn out “will they, won’t they?” saga.
We should do our up most to keep Ramsey also, especially if Ozil is not going to sign. I think this could benefit Ramsey as I feel he can play as a number 10. You just have to look our influence he was in the Euros.

Alexis I’m not sure. He’s a winner through and through. I love the guy to bits but I worry he’s only really happy when he’s holding silverware.
Ramsey I feel for a little bit really. He would walk into most starting XIs but can’t crack ours in what hell believe is his best position (CAM).

Wenger needed to make a statement signing if he wanted to keep them. ‘Cut-Price Perez’ is not good enough. I predict a contract saga for Alexis in particular, Ozil is not as ambitious.
If you know the mechanism of extending contracts when there’s 2 years left then you won’t worry. First there is a buy out close and other terms and conditions lawyers and agents have ponder on. This takes weeks. It can be tidious back and fourth negotiations. Then the image rights and other businesses to players may request and finally the length of the new contract. Considering they are both approaching 30 by the time of the new contract Wenger may be squising them now.
Wenger needs to sign first. Or if he’s retiring then announce Joachim Loew as the successor. I don’t think they will sign without knowing who the boss is next season.
Of the British lot up for renewal only Ramsey deserves a new deal. Ox and Jack should be told to take a salary cut in exchange for 2 more years.
A nice idea but not realistic in the current market. This is tantamount to telling them to clear off. Which is not a great strategy even if you are looking to sell them.
