Cazorla confident Wenger will sign new deal

Santi Cazorla says Arsene Wenger has given no indication to Arsenal’s first team squad that he could call time on his Gunners reign at the end of the season.

The Frenchman celebrated his 20th anniversary at the club last Saturday and has made clear that he won’t make a decision on his future until the end of the season when his current contract ends.

Asked whether Wenger could reject the chance to sign a new deal, widely believed to be ready and waiting for him, Cazorla told Spanish broadcaster Cope:

“The truth is we do not have that feeling [that he could leave] in the dressing room.

“The boss has not indicated that this will be his last year. Not at all. He is fully focused on this season and I do not know what he is planning for the future.

“Today I do not rule him continuing another season because he has not said he will leave.

“It is in his hands and he is the one who has to make the decision but today I would say that he may continue.

“Arsene is an icon at the club. He has spent 20 years here and every bit of praise to him would not be enough.”

Given Arsenal’s good form and the warmth directed in Wenger’s direction during his anniversary celebrations it’s perhaps unsurprising that the players are feeling positive vibes from the boss regarding a potential stay. Of course, much can change over the course of the season.

Yesterday, Ivan Gazidis stressed that, “Arsenal is not Arsenal Wenger — they are not one and the same thing.” While today, the Evening Standard cite a club source saying:

“Our primary current focus is on maintaining our strong start to the season. Discussions will be held at an appropriate time.”

Oh Santi!! you have been a huge blessing to this club. Everyone loves you 🙂 keep smiling and showing your skills

Matt

Completely read the names the headline in the wrong order.

CB

Has he given up saying ‘…no?’ at the end of each sentence?

Or do they edit them out now?

DarrenTMN

Ha! Exactly! I love his interview technique. This one was in Spanish, so at least we know that he was answering the actual question asked – but it’s brilliant listening to his English interviews, because he hardly ever directly answers what’s been asked of him, just goes off on his own Santi tangent, no?

The bottom line here is, if the players wsnt the boss to stay, then they need to pop their collective bollocks for him. Either a CL semi-final or a title fight to the 36th/37th matchday at least, and maybe a final appearance in one of the domestic cups will be enough, I think, to convince the boss to stay on. All of those things are possible but the squad will really have to work their tits off

CL semi would lead to a pretty hard-core schedule of the league match with united over the weekend in between the two CL matches.

Arsepedant

So what? It’s only United.

Why not

You literally cannot please some people.

No disrespect to M. Wenger who has acheived many wonderful things, but he should go with dignity at the end of this season. I know that by nature football fans are knee jerk, but the change of tone in this comments section since the disastrous close season and first home match is ridiculous.

Spend some fucking money … oh wait …
Alexis is not a striker
Walcott is useless we should keep Joel Cambell
Sign Kante
Sign Mahrez, only Mahrez
Spend 60m on Lacazette
Mustafi is not worth 35m
Sign Koulibally
Rob Holding only cost 2.5m
Coquelin cannot play further forwards
Arsenal need a target man
Lucas is a panic buy
Thanks for the memories
You don’t know what you’re doing

There may be life in the old dog yet …

Merson's grin

No,not ridiculous, just appropriate with a large chunk of relief.

Gazidas… Gazidas Gazidas…

Arsene is Arsenal!

The Only Olivier is Giroud

Time will tell. I’m just cherishing each match as they come and que cera, cera I guess (I probably misspelled that but Friday spliff innit?).

Glasgow_Gooner

He has earned the right to decide himself, when it’s time to go.
However, he did sub the simply sublime Dennis Bergkamp over 40 times in his Arsenal career.

Hey buddy, are you some kind of moron?

RosickyLegend7

Fuck you Gazidis. Wenger has done something for the club, will be remembered fondly forever and will leave a legacy. What have you done for the club? Nothing. Arsene is Arsenal and always will be. #OneArseneWenger

Arsene has earned the right to decide when to leave. He has worked hard and deserves a title to cap it all up.
It’s up to the players to reward him.
Against the chavs, we played like a team on a vendetta for Arsene and showed steel(albeit with a HANDsome bit of luck)to grind out a win at Turf Moor.
The outlook is positive and we surreal depth in key areas.
I’m more positive about this team than I’ve been in years.

Of course he can’t leave, he’d miss Santi’s smile on the training ground everyday too much.
