Shkodran Mustafi says that there are times when he needs to channel his inner Alexander O’Neal and ‘criticise’ Mesut Ozil in training.
The German compatriots seem pretty tight, but that doesn’t stop the new recruit from giving his more senior colleague a piece of his mind.
“Sometimes I have to criticise him as well because that’s how football is,” he said.
“Everyone makes mistakes and we have to be professional with it. Sometimes we criticise ourselves the most, it’s not the people out there that criticise us, it’s ourselves who criticise us the most.
“Because you want to play well, you want to win games, you don’t want to make mistakes. If you make one you are the first one who gets angry.
“But that’s football, you cannot be without errors.”
Asked to respond to these claims, Ozil said, “Don’t criticize my friends, don’t criticize my ideas. Don’t criticize my life style, I’m fed up ’cause all you want to do is criticize.”
No, he didn’t, of course. He was too busy taking harmless pictures and driving Rio Ferdinand into a frothing, hypocritical rage, but it’s interesting to hear about Mustafi’s willingness to have his say.
It was only the other week he was being called a ‘vocal presence’ since arrival. At this rate he’ll be player manager by the end of December.

I believe Renato Sanches recently signed a contract with Bayern Munich. I am of the belief that it would be difficult for Wenger to sign him.
