Hector Bellerin says he never considered leaving Arsenal and admits he’s pleased and grateful that the club were so eager to tie him down to a long-term deal.
The Spanish full-back, 21, has put pen-to-paper on a bumper new contract that will keep him at the Emirates until 2023 and is now aiming to win more silverware having already picked up an FA Cup medal in 2015.
“I’m really, really happy and this club is my home right now,” Bellerin told Arsenal Player.
“I’ve been here for more than five years now so I was really, really excited when the club told me that they wanted to extend my contract.
“I wasn’t thinking about anything else other than staying here and continuing my development here. This is where I’m happy. I’m just very grateful and pleased to have signed.
“Arsenal is not only about being a footballer, you have to be a good person to play here. That’s what everyone transmits inside the club. You represent more than just a football club.
“I’m a player who tries to be an example for everyone, not just on the pitch but off it as well.
“Now I’ve just got to keep on progressing, keep working hard to be the best player I can be, and hopefully help the team to be where its got to be, to win some silverware. That’s what everyone wants and that’s what I’m working towards.”
It’s great to have Hector’s deal done and dusted…now attention turns to Messrs Ozil and Sanchez. Hurry up lads
Lord Hector.
Dab
Happy that Hector signed. Barcelona and City will wait just two years and start attracting him again. I don’t think Hector will end his career at Arsenal but when Henry left, fans were happy to go say goodbye to him because he did the job. Hope this will be the case with Hector. No cheeky name for Hector yet ?
In 2 years, he’ll still have 5 years left to run. Unless he puts in a request, it will be very hard to sign him.
I wasn’t happy when he left, I thought he was a gooner. Fans don’t switch clubs.
2023!? A 7-year contract? I’ve never heard of the like!
Is gratitude and loyalty returning to football? This guy is obviously a good example for other players to emulate.
Remember it was Wenger who showed faith in Coquelin, Campbell and Bellerin.
As i recollect, most people wanted Coquelin and Campbell out because they were deemed not good enough for Arsenal.
Most didn’t even think of Bellerin makig the grade.
These are the same numpties who get on Wenger’s back.
How little they know.
I accept that Wenger knows a lot of things the average fan doesn’t. What I have failed to understand Santori, is your constant need to remind other fans that they know shit. Even when it is totally uncalled for. What kind of kick do you get out of this? Do you have such a huge need of validation that you have to remind the rest of us how we were fools not to have agreed 100% with Le Prof? I consider Wenger to be a brillian top top quality manager. I rate him so high that even when I don’t… Read more »
I love me some ‘ector!
Fantastic. Hector will play football in his prime with The Arsenal. Gives me the shivers anticpating how good he will be.
Brilliant. Now want to say something that people will be angry about. There is another Spaniard who is having a hard time at a London Club, who might be able to provide the creativity the Santi can’t with his injuries. How about signing him inJanuary.
Nah let him rot in the hell he in, but point taken though we need that kind of player our win percentage is not what it should be without Santi. Non the less let him burn
Happiness has a name, and it’s “Hector signed a contract extension!”
