Lucas: Arsenal is a marvel of a club

Lucas Perez has heaped praise on Arsenal as he recovers from an ankle injury that’s going to keep him sidelined until well into December.

The Spanish striker joined towards the end of the transfer window for £17m, and says that everything the club does is designed to help the players improve.

Although he hadn’t worked his way into the starting XI on a regular basis, he made a fine contribution with two goals and three assists from just six appearances (3 starts, 3 as sub).

Speaking to Marca, he said, “The Arsenal surprises me every day because of the treatment you get, the desire to have the player as comfortable and at ease possible. You just have to dedicate yourself to training.

“It’s a marvel of club.”

He also had nice words for Arsene Wenger, saying, “He works with you very closely, he helps you to be a better footballer, and although he looks quite serious, he’s a great person and a great coach.

“People respect and love him a lot.”

The 28 year old believes that the Gunners have the squad to cope with his injury and any other problems, more so than in previous years.

“I think there’s a great squad, last year they had that as well, but I think this season there are more options on the bench, more players to be able to rotate.”

Perez is posting videos of his recuperation while at former club Deportivo. It looks like it’s slow going at the moment, but fingers crossed he’s back soon.

Love how he refers to us as “The Arsenal” already. Class.

It’s just a feature of the spanish language; saying ‘El Arsenal’ is the same as saying ‘Arsenal’, the person who translated must have translated literally. Same thing in french too, must be a romance language thing.

Well, we late comers haven’t seen that typo I guess. Corrected.

“he helps you to be a better football”

I don’t think that is what Arsene means when he says: be the ball, Lucas.

On the flip side he’s done such a good job of being a football a fat man decided to kick him…

Reality Check

Sometime I paint myself black and white and pretend to be a football too

To be a better football?!? I hope you mean striker 🙂

It seems to be that Lucas works his way further into my heart every time he does anything. Let’s hope he comes back from injury as the player we saw glimpses of and gives us everything he can.

Can I be a football too? ?

Sort of off topic, but wanted to share a link to some insightful podcast comments from Alex Flnn, author of Arsenal – The Making of a Modern Superclub. He talks about Wenger’s strengths and frustrating limitations, as well as the owner/board’s contentment with 4th place and the need for a David Dein-type figure on the board. He does not pull punches. Well worth a listen.
