Stop the presses: Mathieu Debuchy has played a game of football in an Arsenal shirt.
The French international’s last appearance for the Gunners was just under 12 months ago, in a 3-0 Champions League win over Dinamo Zagreb. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Bordeaux to keep his European Championship hopes alive, but suffered an ankle injury which kept him out of the finals.
He’s been nowhere to be seen this season due to a calf injury but turned out today for the U23’s away fixture against Sp*rs, and opened the scoring in the 2-0 win, crashing home a Chris Willock cross via the underside of the bar.
There’s been no footage found of it, but we imagine it to look something like this:
Except completely different.
With Arsene Wenger still to fully decide on who is going to replace Hector Bellerin at Old Trafford tomorrow, perhaps the door is not yet fully close for the former Newcastle man.
Update: see the goal here
Football is crazy, but even football isn’t crazy enough for Debuchy to come on and score the winner at the old toilet in his first game for us in over a year. It’s so unlikely it can’t happen.
Surely not.
No chance.
None whatsoever.
C’mon fate let me tempt ya.
THERE he is!
What if he scores the winner at Old Trafford tomorrow?
Even Alexis wouldn’t be playing two matches in less than 24 hours.
Okay, maybe Alexis. But no-one else.
He won’t. He’s a cunt.
Actually not too dissimilar, but he fell over doing it
is this the first and only MLS reference?!
I’m going to assume Blogs youtubed shot off underside bar or something and used the most convenient clip. As would I. So “MLS reference”… sure.
The Arsenal Facebook page has a clip of the goal on it.
Rob Holding at right back? Seems he has played there before: http://www.transfermarkt.com/rob-holding/profil/spieler/253341
Could be. But I’d rather go for a specialist like Jenks or Debuchy in a match like this.
Didn’t Debuchy don the shirt in a pre-season friendly?
Dedouchy!
Bring him back!
As a sounders fan who hates F*ckerman as if he were a former Sp*r (and, let’s be honest, his mangy, dirty, completely unattractive brand of football would fit right in at White Crap Lane), I do not appreciate this clip at all.
Which, honestly, is the first time I haven’t liked something on this page, so.. good on ya in general!
haha, fair enough!
Debuchy was one of the best RB when Arsenal bought him. Deserves a go.
