L’Equipe are reporting that Laurent Koscielny is set to sign a contract extension that will keep him at Arsenal until 2020.
The France international last put pen-to-paper on a contract in the summer of 2014 – a deal that has him under contract until either 2017 or 2019. L’Equipe report the former, while various other sources cite the latter.
The extension, however long it is for, is a reward for being one of the club’s most consistent performers and will bump up his wages just below star duo Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil
Since his arrival from Ligue 1 side Lorient six years ago, Koscielny has featured 262 times for the Club in all competitions, more than any other Arsenal player over the same period.

I remember his debut just like it was yesterday. I always knew there was a quality defender in there despite the many errors he made in his first couple of seasons. It’s the reason why I scoff at comments dismissing Gabriel because of a few “dodgy” games. Gabriel will come good too. So to the naysayers who dismiss Gabriel because he hasn’t exactly set the world alight…actually I have nothing to say. Just shut the fuck up and enjoy the process of watching a rough diamond being polished by the grand architect, Arsene Wenger.

Awesome player. Great news. I remember there were doubts over him when he joined. People didn’t know if he would cut it, coming from the lower leagues in France. Now look at him. I personally think he’d get into any team in the world. We’re lucky to have him, but he also realises how much Arsenal have done for him. Should be captain.

And to think at one point I once thought Vermaeleen was better than him… The most consistent high performing hard tackling bastard (Costa) crunching last minute goal winning no nonsense beast of a CB. What a gem to have in our team!

Though it has to be said that Vermaelen wasn’t a bad defender, and unfortunately loss of form and injuries blighted his Arsenal career. Still, sold him on for what must still be the most shrewd deal imaginable from an Arsenal perspective given the amount of playing time thereafter!
