Arsene Wenger is hoping Didier Deschamps won’t field Laurent Koscielny for the full 90 minutes of France’s upcoming friendly with the Ivory Coast.
The Arsenal defender was at the heart of his country’s defence on Friday night as Les Bleus overcame Sweden 2-1 in their latest World Cup 2018 qualification game.
Commentating on the game for beIN Sport, Wenger stressed that giving Koscielny a breather would make sense given Arsenal have two big games coming up in the space of a week.
“I would have a hard time understanding if he plays the whole match against Ivory Coast,” reflected the boss.
“When it’s in competition, I never intervene. I understand he is playing against Sweden.
“But I would have a hard time understanding that he plays the whole match against Ivory Coast, as we face Manchester United and then PSG.”
Despite returning to pre-season very late, Koscielny has made the most first team starts (14) at Arsenal this season. Le’ts hope common sense prevails and he’s given a rest.
This makes total sense, which I admit means nothing
Pulling up in the 89th minute it is then…Oh I do hate internationals.
I believe Bosscielny should be rested at the friendly.
He won’t play. Coaches use friendly games to try the usual subs unless he decides to test a partnership between Kos and one sub.
Useless International break games
