Giroud going nowhere in January

Despite starting just twice this season, Olivier Giroud has no intentions of looking elsewhere for football this season.

Inevitably that leads to speculation about possible transfer moves, but according to the French international’s agent, he’s going nowhere.

“I’ve never been in contact with Italian clubs,” said Michael Manuello. “Olivier is very happy at Arsenal. He’s going to finish his season here. Nothing is possible in January for Olivier.

“He has no intention of leaving this winter.”

And although he has just started two games, the 30 year old has 5 goals to his name, showing how valuable he can be.

Having a squad that can contribute throughout the season is going to be crucial, and he’ll play a big part in that as this campaign goes on.

I love Giroud and sympathise with him, but he’s too damn effective as a substitute this season to even consider letting go. Plus, maybe I’m remembering wrong, but I think we’ve had one or two problems with injuries in the past, and it’s great to have a proven goal scorer waiting in case Alexis gets hurt or some wingers get injured or lose form and we have to move Alexis out to the wing. I hope and guess that he’ll get a run of starts at some point.

I love the fact that we are playing well which means this poor lad doesn’t get abused on every social media platform for no apparent reason.

I do agree with you though. Alexis is too good up front, he tires the defenders. Then the big man comes on and they can’t deal with him physically. Long may it last.

Ben

With Welbz coming back, I’d be happy if no one left, and we bought no one new (unless someone “World Class”) became available. Seriously optimistic about this squad.

Bendtner's Ego

Debuchy can cock-off.

Fun

A bit harsh on him I have to say… yes he’s maybe been disrespectful to the club, Wenger, and bellerin in the past, but you have to feel for him. Imagine you get bought for 12 million, you play some really good games, then you’re out for 3 months. Then you come back, look just as good as before, but some oaf comes in and pushes you for no reason and you’re out for another 3 months. 6 months out of a 10 month season. Then a 19 year old comes in and plays out of his skin, unexpectedly becoming… Read more »

If we are serious about winning the title then keeping Giroud is essential. Losing at least 3-4 starters is inevitable. Having replacements of his quality is vital for a title push

Arsenalfanman

We can’t let him go in January if we’re serious about winning something this season. If someone of top quality becomes available in the summer, I believe we should respect Giroud’s decision if he wishes to go and be the main man somewhere, he deserves that after what he’s done for us.

Everyone saying Giroud is a super sub, that will be the reason he will decide to leave, mark my words

ChrisGoona

No chance of that. He has been called a lot worse! The reality is Giroud has performed admirably and has scored a lot of goals for us. He now has serious competition for a starting spot and he will rise to the challenge. He has demonstrated he has the mental strength over the years and has done so again with his appearances so far off the bench. He has played the lead CF role for Arsenal in a very fickle environment, with everyone on his case every week, and has come out of that. I would be extremely surprised if… Read more »

My bad
Robert Pires and Jermaine Pennant (!) both scored a hat-trick each in just one game, a 6-1 win over Southampton, before Freddie Ljungberg scored three against Sunderland the following week.

Chamakh

He has been injured twice already this season which is probably the main reason he has started so few games. Doesn’t mean he isn’t rated or that he won’t play a big part this season. Just the usual tabloids

Dawn

100% agree that his injuries have been the reason why Giroud has not been starting! He is a very important member of our squad!

Clock-End Mike

Top scorers the last 4 seasons: Walcott (21 goals 2012-13), Giroud (22 goals 2013-14), Alexis (25 goals 2014-15) and Giroud (24 goals 2015-16).
Top scorers after just 23 games this season: Alexis (13 goals), Walcott (9 goals), Özil (8 goals), The Ox (6 goals), Giroud (5 goals), Lucas (5 goals).
I wouldn’t bet against having at least 3 players scoring more than anyone has the last 4 seasons.

Sidkid

Can’t believe Ox has scored 6!!

Arsepedant

We could have six players in double figures by mid-January at this rate.

Eddee

All our forwards are scoring on a regular basis. Its been a long time since we have plenty of choices to cover the position.

-I have come to think that life is gettin’ good….finally :-))))

santori

Per games played, Giroud is more effective than RVP or Adebayor Just saying. There is no detriment to scoring from the flanks as amply demonsrarted by Lucas Who starts up front is frankly not that important because we have a mobile system. Even Alexis scored his bumper crop for us from out left, somehting that did not go unnoticed by Walcott. Which is why Theo has stopped clamouring for a CF berth. Last assist from GIroud, he peeled wide to take it to the byline and cut back for the goal. So there is no reason not to profit from… Read more »

Another yank

Did he not just return from an injury layoff last month, and come back not 100% after the Euros? The wild transfer speculation is a result of boredom and lack of rationality. Like us being after Bacca. Stop. I imagine at least one forward will need some rest or get a niggle down the line (this is The Arsenal after all) and Giroud will be needed. The fixture list is batsh*t crazy without the EFL, the more bodies, (Lucas “Pires” Perez) the better, as I doubt Welbeck is ready for a full 90 before February at least.

Goon Army

This team reminds me of the invincibles. Whoever gets picked upfront scores. I remember Reyes, RVP, Henry all firing on all cylinders. Been longing for that feeling forever now.
