Giroud: It was a great feeling to score

Olivier Giroud has had a difficult season thus far, and started his first Premier League game of the campaign today.

For a long time it looked as if West Brom were going to frustrate the Gunners as they parked the bus, a lorry, two light vans and people carrier in front of their own goal.

That was until the 86th minute when the French striker showed great strength to hold off the defender and head home the winning goal in the 1-0 victory.

It was his sixth goal of the season, and its importance to the team was not lost on the 30 year old.

“It was a very important game for us and we really wanted, we really needed, the three points,” he told Arsenal Player afterwards.

“It’s job done today but it was very hard. We were playing against six at the back, three in midfield and then one up top, but we never gave up.

“It was a great feeling to score and a big relief too.”

And he had some words of praise for Ben Foster who made 10 saves in total, before finally being beaten by Giroud.

“Foster played very well today,” he said. “He made a good save from my first effort and I was a bit lucky because I was able to put it above him.

“I thought it was a very good cross from Mesut and I just tried to finish off the job. I would like to say that we were very strong as a team, with a good, strong mentality and it was very important to win.

“We have shown a big mental strength once again.”

Happy for the Big Fuc**in Giroooouuuudddd… and for the 3 points !

Why not

Hard fought victory. Horrible watch.

3 points and a moral boost for HFB. Unsung hero this season already

Momozemio

Unsung ?? If I tell you laaaahhhhhh laa la lalalalaaaa…lalalalaaaa….. ?? 😉

Why not

Indeed. His name is sung many a time, but his value under appreciated by many pundits and the short sighted.

Cornelius P. Snuffington III

It was a brilliant fucking header too, he lobbed the keeper with his forehead. I liked it even better than the similar one he scored against Sunderland.

Bid

And he finally used his strength to get it. Let see those a bit more oftent then.

Stupid penalty undoes all their hard work.?

If you were expecting to see good football against Tony Pulis’ side, I believe it’s your fault for being disappointed. Chelsea did the same thing as we did and nicked a 1-0 win.

Love that Sexy French Bastard

Not so much a “fuck off” win as a “thank fuck” win.

GREAT HEADER… And I think PEREZ has a lot to offer

Kevin

Challenging but ok outcome.

Wenger’s tactical subs questionable – notably Ramsey for Coq.

Perez needs more than 20 minutes – he looked sharp

Sorry for Gibbs – he has no luck at all.

santori

I don’t think Perez looked that sharp. He misplaced a ball on the break. He was OK.

Iwobi did well in tight congestion all game. Wenger put in the changes to carry on with the energy and pressing.

Ramsey was the correct sub because we needed the goal and had to gamble for the overload further up with WBA looking comparatively toothless going for the point.

Poor Gibby 🙁 Heal up soon, M8!

Gooneropolis

Say what you want, but the man has one of the best headers in Europe! Provide service, especially against tired legs late, and he delivers the goods.

He is no Alexis and that’s just fine. Play to his strengths and Giroud is quite effective upfront.

The mental strength comes back… Again

santori

I said it before, Giroud is not an option off the bench. He is an alternate weapon we need to use properly to break teams down. With WBA/Pubis coming over to grab a point packing ten in defense, we needed the physical presence to open them up. Giroud made some excellent all passes and touch and goes for Bellerin, Alexis. The former lacked the composure of a Wilshere when put through and the latter was wasteful with a shot high into the stands. In the end, an excellent assist for Ozil who put himself about today in better fashion (Off… Read more »

Are you a professional fan then?

Lord Bendtner

was hoping for bombardment into the box with giroud in there. But ox wasn’t there to provide that from the wing and iwobi can’t cross. Would’ve been nice to see ozil on the flank to make the crosses and ramsey in the center, i mean that wouldve made more sense to me with giroud in the center. but i understand making too many changes can be bad. so at the end, glad we managed to get in a good cross and a brilliant header. Make no mistake, most ppl would not have headed that into the goal (look at the… Read more »

Great win today! It’s not mental strength to keep plugging away against a team you would expect to beat… I’ve been on Mugabe Media Lockdown and to be honest out next game proper is Chelsea away. It shouldn’t be for the players but it probably is and it definitely is for the fans

Cas

Giroud!

Ilari

I think it’s underestimated how good Giorud really is in the air. For me he’s one of the best in the world in that department.

Congratulations to Oli Giroud. He never gives up ??

Javis

I thought that was a solid performance against a decent side who give little away. We had a good amount of efforts on goal and Foster made some brilliant stops. The win obviously was absolutely vital and we got it.

We have a good run of fixtures now and by the end of January we’ll find out if we have a chance at winning the league..but we’ve got to win our next 3/4 games!

Stephen

He’s so dreamy.
