Arsene Wenger says the title race this season is like nothing he’s seen before, with six teams still in with a reasonable shout of winning the league.
The Gunners sit fourth at the moment, with an 8 point gap to leaders Chelsea to surmount. However, there’s just one point between us and Sp*rs in second, while Liverpool lie in third with the same one point advantage.
Speaking after the 4-0 win over Swansea on Saturday, the Arsenal manager touched on how close it all is at the top.
“It’s the first time in 20 years that at this stage of the season you have six teams at the top,” he said.
“Chelsea still have a big advantage, but they’re all doing well. You look around you and nobody is dropping off, so it’s down to being consistent, keeping your nerve, focusing on your game.
“Now we go into Europe, into the cups, big games – who can maintain it?
“Honestly, nobody can tell.”
The Gunners face Burnley and Watford at home in their next two Premier League games, before a crunch encounter at Stamford Bridge which could blow the whole thing wide open – or put a serious dent in our title challenge.
It’s exciting.
It feels like a five team race for second at the moment but if we can go to the Bridge and win it all changes and the title race is back on.

I’ve had nightmare visions of Harry Kane and Deli Ali lisping their gimpy little way to the title.
Lisping their gimpy little way… What a marvellous turn of phrase
But I’m still tempted to down vote you for putting the thought of Harry Kane happy into my head this early on a Monday
We need them to finish second so that we’re motivated by st totteringham’s day
The only way that St T’s day can be any more hilarious than last year is if the same thing happens but we win the league too.
True, but I’m not sure I could stand the stress of it.
Imagine the gloriousness of 60,000 chanting, “It’s happened again!” to get you through the tough times. I always do! 😉
They’d have to lose to already relegated Swansea by 6. At home. After leading by three goals.
I find myself mildly cheering the spuds on all the way to Second. The universe dictates they will never finish above Arsenal under Arsene Wenger!!
After watching the sheikhs get totally dismantled by Everton and remembering the same happening against Leicester. I really find it hard to believe we were so dreadful against them. Oh well hopefully it was just a blip.
Honestly, at this point, it feels like the Chelsea win was just a blip. Let’s hope we’ll wake up in the second half of the season.
Chelsea are at Anfield on the Tuesday prior to Arsenal’s visit.
So let’s hope we’re handing them back-to-back losses and the gap is 2 points with 14 games to play.
But whatever the position, beating Chelsea, away, would be the sort of result that could give the squad the confidence to go all the way.
I’d rather the gap be 3 points….a draw at Anfield would suit is more than a Chelsea loss.
I understand your reasoning, but I don’t agree. Ultimately we need to catch the leader, not the team behind them.
Let’s accumulate points and confidence over the next three PL games please. Then we will be back in the hunt. Tough season though.
Always optimistic because we’re the team in red and white and we’re fuckin’ excellent
Even the most ardent Wenger fan would have to admit that every time we reach a critical point or game in the season where nerve is required- we tend to fluff our lines. And even if other results show that getting beat at Everton or drawing at BournemoutBournemouth
Oops. Premature posting. How embarrassing. As I was saying. Even if other results show than games we have dropped points can happen to anyone…fact is to win titles we need to win those games we all expect to win and not lose the bigger games. I hope we can turn that around. Yes. We showed character to come back against Bournemouth. But we showed lack of character to go 3 down and start the game so slowly. And against Everton when we had them on the ropes we didn’t kill them off. So a sense of ruthlessness is required. Can… Read more »
For 14 years I have paid for a short break in Spain on a flutter that the spuds finish below us!
Don’t see any reason why my Holliday would get spoilt this season. We know how this goes people.. Capitulation on the spuds again
I think at this point we only have a chance at the title if we start by beating the top 6.
Thats where it will be won and lost. We need to beat the teams above us and not lose to the scum below us. so taking 11 points from 15 in those 5 games will be crucial.
I do fear not. Chelski have had their arses handed to them by us, mugsmashers and Spuds but have been irritatingly consistant against pretty much everyone else in the league
I don’t think it’s an accident that Chelsea and Liverpool, with no European competition, are doing so well. Liverpool, if they take both cups seriously, now have a seriously congested fixture list. Chelsea, as a reward for their abject season last year, still have it pretty easy.
Got it in one. Still hoping Chelsea manage to fall off a cliff anyway.
First things first. We need to do our thing and shave point of the Spuds and Liverpool. Next two games we have Burnley (Barton) and Watford. NO cock ups. NO Penalties conceded or red cards to the twat Barton. That’s 6 points we will /MUST get Spurs are playing a City that has something to prove so hopefully they will shed the point. The following weekend Liverpool have to play CHelsea so something again will have to give. We need to get those 6 points, no lessons need to be learnt lecture because we were careless or insipid against two… Read more »
We have to do our own thing Windows next two games first against Burnley and Watford. I believe Spuds will have room to play a wounded City so there is a chance to make up more than the point against them this weekend. Then the following weekend Liverpool will have to play Chelsea so something has to give there. We may find ourselves in pole position just behind Chelsea with some luck and if we do the business, avoid being goaded by Barton into any red cards or penalties, beat Burnley and Watford. Then should we beat Chelsea, then the… Read more »
