Wenger: some of them would jail me in winter

Arsene Wenger says that certain critics of him would like to have him locked up in a freezing cell in the middle of winter, and still say that wasn’t harsh enough.

The Arsenal manager was handed a four-game touchline ban last week for his coming together with Anthony Taylor during the frenetic end to the 2-1 win over Burnley.

Wenger apologised immediately afterwards, did not contest the charges – although he did request a personal hearing, and was given two games more than Alan Pardew who was sidelined for two games after pushing a linesman in the middle of the game in full view of the entire stadium.

Asked about The FA’s decision in the wake of Saturday’s 5-0 trouncing of Southampton, Wenger said, “I do not want to judge the judges.

“I got a sentence and I decided not to appeal to just get this behind me. For those who don’t like me, any sentence will be too lenient.

“They would like to put me in jail somewhere without any heating in the middle of winter – and that would still be lenient.”

He was, however, more forthcoming about his team and its ability to get goals this season. Speaking about his forward options, he said, “You look at Pérez and Walcott and Danny Welbeck, and I have Sanchez on the bench as well, that exceptional quality.

“For a long time we have not had that offensive quality available. The problem will now be to find the right combination and use them well in games, without destroying the balance of the team.”

Ozil's left foot

Lock Arsene up and make him watch Jose’s teams play and his post match conferences for 48 hours straight.

That should bring him to his knees.

Stewart Robson's therapist

Depends which matches. I imagine he could probably watch Mourinho’s last few months at Chelsea on a continual loop.

My name is Jeff

They know nothing.

HM

Listening to the R5 commentary on the game, Danny “Balanced” Mills said what AW did was tantamount to “physical abuse” and the ban wasn’t nearly harsh enough. Overboard, much…? Given that Terry got a four game ban (plus fine) for racially abusing Ferdinand, Xhaka got four games after the second two debatable reds and Shawcross only got three for breaking Ramsey’s leg, what exactly does The Voice Of Reason (et al) think is a suitable punishment? These morons continually trot out rubbish about the PASHUN that only the Engerlish can provide, when someone like a normally reserved Wenger does kick… Read more »

He’s probably still bitter about Henry nutmegging him all those years ago…

What really made me smile was the sheer hypocrisy of Souness pontificating on Wenger – what a complete knob

Well done Bloggs……that picture is as good as it gets.

Why not

I like the on-purpose mismatch in scale. Extra comedy.

Alexisshorts

Quite honestly some of the venom aimed at him was unbelievable. Glad he can be so ‘chilled’ about it.

Gar14

He’s one cool customer

Lula da Gilberto

Having read some articles calling his conduct ‘a disgrace’, despite all else that’s going on it the world, its hard to disagree with him.

Some people are so easily enraged I seriously wonder how they live. I for one couldn’t do it.

Kostafi's mustache

Sadly, he is right. There is an agenda against that man and it’s very obvious

Magneto

I think what Arsene said was right, but didn’t go far enough.

His critics don’t just want him behind bars…they want his head on
a plate, and have done for many many years now.

Despite the clear limitations of the southampton team that was put out, I’ve not enjoyed a game as much for quite a while. Reminded me of league cup nights where Arsene would put out a second 11 and still give the opposition a rogering. My favorite performance was Lucas. For me, I’ve not seen guile like that around the penalty box for a good while.

Terry Henrique

Wenger should be in a Lecter-like mask when in public. In fact, lock him up in a Lecter-like cell, and have journalists allowed in one by one where they sit upon a rickety wooden chair asking him about transfers.

Gunner Rob

Chris Sutton (the daft cunt) on BT Score said the FA should have given him a ten match ban, he said it was as bad as Di Canio’s push on Paul Alcock, even Robbie Savage agreed that the ban he had was sufficient.

“Look at me. I’m so controversial. Oooh, the things I say…. I’m shocking, in your face and really controversial. You want a man who can talk bollocks? Right here! Please notice me! I’m still around! Yeah I was a shit, dirty player, but now I’m sitting on a massive sofa on BT Sport and I’m controversial! Look at me!” : Chris Sutton

Coco

Savage even said “you’re going over the top now to get headlines.” Robbie Savage actually said that. You must know you’re being a ludicrous prick when even Savage is using that line on you!

The people who matter know he is AWesome by name and awesome by nature. Everyone else can f*ck right off!

Andy Mack

Old Red Nose spent over 25 years shouting at the officials before, during and after the games, but he’s a Saint!
Rooney spends every moment on the pitch swearing at the ref but he’s a ‘national treasure’.
AW gets pissed at a 4th official manhandling him and shoves back, and he’s a disgrace to the game.
Yes there’s some serious double standards at play from the Football Hacks and their professional fuck-wit pundits.
