Hector Bellerin has done an interview with El Mundo Deportivo, which is due to be published tomorrow (Wednesday).
The Catalan newspaper is teasing some snippets from it, and as you would expect a Barcelona friendly newspaper has asked a former Barcelona youth player about the possibility of returning to the club one day.
And also as you might expect from a polite young man who realises that one day he might like go go back and play for his hometown club, it’s best to answer in a vaguely positive manner while stressing his focus on his current club.
“Any player would flattered by the interest of Barcelona,” he said, “they are the best club in the world.
“The fact that I grew up in the Barca academy also makes it a bit more special, although now I’m focused on the this season and the rest will come later.
“When I left Barcelona my idea was not to return, because my departure was a bit complicated.
“Other players leave saying that they want to return one day but I left to live an experience in England, to try to be a footballer and not return.
“But you do not know what the future holds and you cannot close any doors.”
So, fairly bog-standard stuff. He’s not going to say ‘I never want to play for Barcelona’, but even if they play that particular bit up it’s not as if he’s issued a come-and-get-me either.
Bellerin also speaks about Arsene Wenger and how he has a special attachment to the manager who gave him his chance at Arsenal.
“The loyalty I have to him is worth more than money,” he said. “It’s very important for me, the fact that he is there carries a lot of weight for me.”
So, nothing to get knickers in a twist about. The full interview is published tomorrow, if there’s anything more interesting in that we’ll bring it to you here.
For now, here’s a picture of an adorable puppy because I think we could all use that right now.
That puppy is akin to a Jeffery Dahmer of puppydom.
correction: a Ted Bundy of puppydom.
I’d genuinely be surprised if we hold on to him this summer because if Arsenal have another shit season next year, then that move to Barca might not be there for him.
So I think that’s him gone.
love Hector, love how he talks in his North London spanglish accent innit
We need another full back to help him develop at a healthy pace. The burden on his young shoulders is quite enormous.
I agree, especially since I feel like he didn’t have adequate time to recover from the minor concussion he probably got from elbow to the head in the Chelsea match.
He shouldn’t have been under that much pressure to perform to a good standard after that incident.
Out of all that reading, i say Thumbs up to that dog ??
Good lad, classy, intelligent and loyal too. Well said Hector ?
I read between the lines: I have loyalty to Wenger but let’s see what is going to happen at the end of season. If he leaves, I will use that as the reason to go to Barcelona.
I too sense a similar vibe. Let’s hope that is not the case
Lose the long hair, man.
More puppies! Its the only way to salvage this shit storm
Blah blah blah. Is that a german shepherd? Ahhhh
No, Leonberger
I think we should cash in now and keep that self sustainable business model rockin n a rollin
Lose the long hair, mate.
His performances have dropped since that shit haircut.
Get a haircut Hector ffs.
He will be gone at the end of the season like any other player that has sense and wants to play for a decent team that will win and compete for trophies.
Bellerin is a good player but I wouldn’t hold it against him if he left as if I was an arsenal player I would be out and looking to play for a decent team.
Because the players are not responsible for games we lost? If Arsenal isn’t a decent, why would its players be decent players wanted elsewhere.
Cos we have a crap manager.
Well we should all be grateful he left there under complicated circumstances, otherwise I think he’d be seriously considering that move and could anyone blame him?
Well, they wouldn’t till he leaves there and joins fucking Chelsea!
I wonder how long it will take for the scum press and clickbait merchants to spin this into “Bellerin wants Barca” headlines, completely ignoring minor details like, you know, the words used in the interview.
*swoon*
Would have to question the timing of the interview tbqh. Why would you do it now. At maybe the lowest point, surely his lowest point. You’d surely cancel it, not line it up, give it a miss, tell your agent it’s not a good idea, tell your media manager to rearrange it to a later date, or whatever the hell else logic would normally deem appropriate here. So with that in mind, you’d maybe be wondering if the timing is intentional. Like what reaction is he looking for here? Assuming he knows that this will be played out in our… Read more »
I’m sure these interviews are booked in weeks ahead. Doubt they’re checking results waiting for the bad run to then asking him questions about where he grew up etc …….. it’s not some twat from talksport!
Current players, former players, managers from all places…. They all speak with great words for Arsene. My respect for the man he is, will never be diminished. My beloved Arsenal should not have come to this, please Arsene, for the sake of Arsenal, figure out a way out of this deep ***
I think he is more likely to go if the gaffer leaves.
He has a healthy dose of Arsenal DNA to compensate for the defective Catalan DNA he would have learnt doesn’t inspire loyalty from what Fabregas experienced.
Alexis would have also given him warning of how his game could hit a road block from his time at Barca.
Bottom line, Wenger is more (TOO) loyal to his projects than Barca would be for all their “More than a Club” rethoric.
The other thing is even IF Wenger announced he was retiring, we are in no position to appoint a successor as none of those potentials that are engaged are in position to announce anything.
It will simply daisy chain the departure speculations of Ozil and Alexis which will cast even more doubt in the rest of the squad (like Bellerin), circle the vultures.
Do we need this? I think not.
Please spare me the Sanchez and Ozil will leave thing. Aren’t them part of the failing team? Ozil is responsible for where we are as anybody else. Sanchez maybe is scoring most goals but he is no good leader and we started losing games when he started his bad attitude. There was one year were Adebayor scored more goals than Sanchez is doing now so it is not just about goals. Seems that Sanchez contributed to the bad atmosphere between players and therefore bad performance than anybody else.
clickbaiiit
I think there is a bit more invention of crisis at Arsenal as per usual than need be. Sure we are in a bit of a deep hole at the moment. 1) The results 4 at a trot have been poor and takes some turning around. 2) We stand to lose two of our best players this summer. 3) The manager has lost the faith of a large swath of the fans (Possibly some of the team too) BUT we are not the disaster (yet) many would deem to paint us in the press and certain segments of the fan… Read more »
As far as this summer is concern, IF he should decide to stay on for a transitional season, Wenger needs to think bigger and throw a bit of caution to the wind. He has steadily started adding last summer two premium priced players instead of one in 2013 and 2014 (2015 being an inexplicable fallow year for additions) BUT should he (likely lose BOTH Ozil and Alexis) IMO he needs to add at least 4 quality signings to see any chance of turning things around in his testimonial year. I would add either of Greizzman (unlikely if we do not… Read more »
I keep hearing this one dimensional Walcott thing and that he should be sold etc…. imagine our league position this season without his goals.
Imagine our league position if we played with 11 footballers rather than 10 and a bloke who hides, can’t control a football and occasionally turns up.
Not a dog man but that lawn looks well manicured
As far as playmakers are concern, I don’t think Juventus will relinquish the likes of Pjanic so easily. Another option besides the swap deal for Pastrore should Ozil go to PSG in first place is Ganso at Sevilla whom we should be able to pry away fro the right (high) amount but it may mean Wenger will possibly not add a 4th premium signing. Iwobi and Ramsey can also play as playmaker but I feel Iwobi needs another season or two under the belt to fully understand the role . Ramsey can be effective as he demonstrated some seasons past… Read more »
Please make the next puppy more adorable. Thats all we have
Needs to improve his defending. Not sure Arsene is the coach to do that for him.
If Robert Pires was a puppy, what would he be? Sir Blogs must know.
You see, it’s important questions like this that distract me from the clusterfuck* that is Ashburton Grove… Yesterday’s Arsecast was a very very good edition that left me as depressed as all heck.
*”Clusterfuck = Military term for an operation in which multiple things have gone wrong. Related to “SNAFU” (Situation Normal, All Fucked Up”) and “FUBAR” (Fucked Up Beyond All Repair).” Sums it all up rather…
Lovely stuff from Hector.
Where is Bowie in the picture Blogs? 🙂
He’ll be off.
Two things for me. And it unlikely that blogs missed it:) One is that he was vehement in the past about not returning to Barca. He never suggested it was a possibility, obviously because he was used as makeweight for Fabregas at a very young age and againt his will. But there is clearly a softening of position. “I am focused on this season” means that I can leave by the summer. The second point is that Bellerin just declared an Ozil-like support for Wenger. The type that comes with a subtle threat. “The fact that he [Wenger] is there… Read more »
Sell the fucking lot of them. And buy lots of puppies.
I don’t think Barcelona will be as good in a few years as they are now. Surely players like Messi come along only once in a blue moon?
One thing i want him to learn is how to make a good cross, i dont know why but our LB and RB are bad at crossing, bad coaching or lack of training might be the cause. Maybe their training too much focus on 1-2 short pass. Especially Bellerin, he has a good pace, if he can master the art of crossing(lol), he could be a scary RB.
Be careful Bellerin, the same thing that happened to Fabregas the same will happen to you, bearing in mind the current manager is leaving, and if he buy you, you might not be in the new manager plan!! Be wise!!
thank fuck for puppies
Any players who are so desperate to see Wenger stay can fuck right off with him.
I see this adorable dog and for some unfathomable reason, I see Franny Jeffers in my head. Huh?
