Mesut Ozil on making Wenger’s hotline bling

Mesut Ozil has a book coming out.

The timing is pretty iffy.

That said some of the stuff being serialised by Bild [translated by ESPN] is interesting.

Like how the German engineered a move to Arsenal after his dad pissed off Real Madrid president Florentino Perez by throwing a hissy-fit during contract negotiations at the Bernabeu.

“He [Ozil’s father] did not have the experience of a dozen negotiations with big club bosses, and that’s why he, to be honest, lacked the serenity to adequately deal with such a provoking offer.

“It was certainly not right to leave the office fuming mad, and slamming the door to Perez’s business room with a bang. I couldn’t envisage that it could have consequences for me.

“But I fell out of favour with the club bosses despite not doing anything. I feared being sat in the stands. And suddenly I needed to act for my career. To no longer play at all was no question for me.”

So what did Mesut do?

Well, he gave Arsene Wenger a bell having had the Frenchman’s phone number since 2010, when Arsenal had previously attempted to lure the midfielder to the Emirates from Werder Bremen.

“Even though it wasn’t easy for me at the start, I dialled a number I had in my cell since 2010.

“‘Mr. Wenger,’ I said. ‘I promised to contact you first if there would be the opportunity that I am looking for a new club. It’s here now.’

“There was this man with the calm voice, the winning manner and the smart words which showed that he really wanted me on his team.

“Wenger scouted me for three years and gave me a much better feeling than Carlo Ancelotti did at Real at that time.”

Arseblog News wishes it had Arsene Wenger’s number.

Griezmann also does the hotline bling dance I think blogs is hitting us with a subliminal transfer confirmation.

Trade Sanchez for Griezemann. Or keep Sanchez and Özil, get Griezemann and flog Ramsey, Wilshire and Theo.

I could like with both options.

I love how the photoshopped head of Wenger is from that time he had a pretty drastic trim and everybody was just kind of laughing at how good it looked. Think it’s time for another one of those haircuts, maybe after a couple of wins…

Arsene is Arsenal.

May he retire in 20 years time.

He is a holy man.

bazza-wicks

dont think this will be included in the Arsenal membership pack of best sellers

Greg

Strange how he has jose writing the forward to his book

Double98

this is reverse tapping up…
uptapping?

it also is a huge indictment in wenger… he has star appeal to big players, he is one of maybe 10 managers in the world who has. and mourinho is another.

if he is leaving we need someone to replace him … thierry or dennis

Double98

endorsement rather

Anonymarse

We don’t talk about Mourinho on here

Godfrey Twatschloch

We only talk about his cunt appeal because he has no star appeal.

StuckInTheWire

There are way more players who would be reluctant to join a club because of Mourinho, than would want to.

Thanks News Hound.

I also read the parts in Ozil’s book where he claims that Mourinho called him a coward and said that a few fancy passes were not good enough if he was was only putting in 50% effort.

Did you read this as well?

btw

What I can’t believe is that Ozil would be stupid enough to include something like that in his own book. It pretty much backs up all the criticisms of him.

Runnings

I want to read the boss’s book already….

The prospect of playing under Wenger is appealing to any footballer who doesn’t have an ego the size of Jupiter. Win or Lose, Wenger commands the respect of his players unlike Mourinho who got sacked for being a sore loser. Some of these modern day managers like Simeone, Mourinho, Pep are like animals. They go hard or go home. Wenger is a classy man with very high IQ and emotional intelligence. When he wins it’s absolute.

I think Wenger brought in a number of players who were humble enough to admit they had not yet realised full potential. One of them would be Ozil at Madrid. But also Alexis at Barca felt he wasn’t given the full opportunity to blossom. A player like Granit would have been courted by a myriad of our competitors but Wenger signed him early because Granit likely felt he could develop over next 2-3 seasons under Wenger’s tutelage. Now whether this sort of development is practical in terms of prosecuting a winning campaign is moot. Wenger blooded players like Ramsey and… Read more »

Again, as I have explained before, Ozil could have gone to 6 or 7 clubs who have equal or better financial clout than us during that summer and some of whom had need for his qualities. That he chose Arsenal was in part due to leg work done by the club and Wenger (and Per) before the signing. The media and many fans simplistically characterised this sugning as a late ‘panic signing’ without reflecting the fact that Wenger a man who refuses to spend a pound above his valuation of Higuain would suddenly turn course and spend 42.3m to save… Read more »
