Report: Wilshere to miss Oz trip

According to the Mirror, Jack Wilshere’s latest injury could keep him sidelined for much of Arsenal’s pre-season preparations meaning he’ll miss the July trip to Australia and China.

The England international suffered a hairline fracture of his left fibula following a collision with ex-Arsenal striker Harry Kane in April.

The injury, similar to one that him out for most of the 2015‑16 season, drew a line under the midfielder’s loan spell at Bournemouth for whom he made 27 appearances; his biggest run of domestic outings since the 2013-14 campaign.

Arsenal players who’ve not been involved with international football this summer are due back at pre-season training in the coming week.

A squad will then travel to Sydney for matches with Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers on 13 and 15 July respectively. The return to London takes in further friendlies with Bayern Munich and Chelsea, to be played in Shanghai and Beijing.

It is hoped that a fit Wilshere might play a part in the Emirates Cup games with Benfica and Sevilla at the tail end of July. That’s assuming the club decide to keep the 25-year-old who has one year left on his contract.

There are suggestions of a new deal to protect our asset but at the same time, having been away from the club for a year, it feels as though his status at the Emirates has changed. Fingers crossed his recovery goes smoothly.

Unfortunately it seems he is likely to be on his way.

Shame, as he loves the club (and he isn’t so keen on Sp*rs I think). Shame as he is injured so that may affect his chances of going to a good club (and Arsenal to get a good fee).

If he does go, best of luck.

Gus Caesar

If he does genuinely love the club then he’ll sign a new contract this summer to allow us to protect his value. Mind you, I think it was pretty obvious what he felt when he put Allardyce and England over us.

Berlingoon

Absolutely. Also it was quite strange when he posted that Rooney was the best captain he ever had. I think his love for his country is way bigger than for Arsenal. He doesn’t even mention Arsenal in his social media accounts anymore. If that’s love I hope my wife will never love me like this.

Renzo007

With the shambles that is arsenal in the last 2/3 years you have no idea what has been going on. fans are frustrated that such a great talent has never had the chance to blossom due to incessant injuries. Good luck lad.

Heavenly Chapecoense

I am glad my wife doesn’t show my picture in her social media accounts. Coming back to Jack, there is no reason why Arsenal would treat him differently from Rosicky, Van Persie and even Diaby.

Loose_Cannon

Hopefully we do keep him but not sure what’s happening at Arsenal these days. Sancehz, Ozil, Chamberlain and Wilshere all allowed to enter the last year of their contracts. It’s almost criminal negligence, I don’t think there’s another club in Europe that does its business in such a ludicrous way!

Ponsonby Gooner

I cant blame the club for not offering contract renewals to players that are constantly injured or under performing. Yes it’d be great if we’d tied chamberlain down to a 5 year deal prior to him entering his final year of contract but at the tail end of last season he looked like a player that simply wasn’t good enough for our first team. The last thing the club wants to do is stockpile players on high salaries that can’t be moved on when they don’t perform (debuchy for instance) due to only a limited amount of clubs being able… Read more »

I don’t know why it’s a mistake by the club as both players refused to sign new contracts on several occasions. We have made good offers if you believe what you hear from inside the club. But if the players aren’t willing to commit, what should the club have done? Sold them even last year because they have refused to extend their contracts?

clins

our three best players of last season dont want to commit to the club. just tells the state of this club

Viva la prof

New season dude. Be positive !!

Loose_Cannon

“but at the tail end of last season he looked like a player that simply wasn’t good enough for our first team.”

Huh? I didn’t see that at all, seeing how well he did at wing back. Performed well at CM on the rare occasions he was allowed to as well.

Scott P

I think P.G. meant the season before that.

Heavenly Chapecoense

Maybe if we had a director of football directing the football to the left or to the right, he may also have directed the football forward and these contracts would have been sorted.

Rogerbij

I have no problem selling him, as every campaign its the same — too many injuries, too long getting back up to speed. Every player has injuries, sure, but its just too much. Question is, who would pay a reasonable sum of money for him?

Albioff

If he wants to stay and prove himself again we must give him another chance. He is an homegrown player and has too much quality to let him go for a ridiculous fee. Also one year is such a long time in football and if you remember last year at a certain point he could have been a starter.

Alex

Another chance and another chance and another chance… I’ve followed Arsenal for 4 years now and i have always read the same about him! Chance was given in Bournemouth… result: the team was better without him.

Loose_Cannon

It’s funny, everyone seems to think Bournemouth were better without Jack Wilshere except actual Bournemouth fans who watch their team week in, week out!

Nigerian rex

Wonder where we can get the rosicky, arteta, mertasacker, santi type loyalty these days

Red-Wing

That’s no news to me as I believe it was said in April he would be out for up to 4 months.

I love him as a player and would like to see him extend his contract but at the same time rational me wouldn’t be too disappointed if he goes.

Goldencannon

Sell him

Pete

Forgot that Benfica were playing at The Emirates Cup. It might give us a chance to see that tricky young English winger that they recently signed when his contract ran out…

Mootilated

I know this is unrelated but Florentino’ Perez has stated that Real Madrid will 99.9% not be signing Kylian Mbappe this summer because he’s way too young and won’t have a regular place.

Northerngooner

Yeah, he also famously said “never, never, never” when asked if he would sign David Beckham, only to sign him a few weeks later. Or claiming “Morata forever” last year when he bought him back for Real Madrid. Morata will most likely leave the club this summer.

Trust him at your peril

GunnerYY

It’s time to let him go, probably will spend most of his time in the sideline than the pitch. We can sell him and get Lemar.

GooonerMike

Congratulations on finally tying the knot with your fiance Jack. Best of wishes to you and your new Wife. Hopefully the marriage will reignite your footballing career……hopefully..

Ausdrexler

This sucks. Always admired a good Jack Attack.
Still, opportunity to see the club strip in action for first time in my life….. I am stoked. With my 3 kids births occupting the top 3 spots of my life moments.. seeing Arsenal on action in the flesh will take 4th spot.
Getting excited!!

No way

And once again it’s the 4th place trophy for arsenal

cagooner

Don’t forget the wedding day. Arsenal fall out of the Top 4 again.

santori

He had a real commodity to give to us in dribbling through the midfield but alas injury prone. Sad to see bc he was one of our brightest Academy products. Hope he goes to a decent non-top6 club. We need to add in midfield, it was the biggest issue which led to the 3-4-3 and we are still deficient in many aspects particularly if the key player Granit gets injured. Iwobi I feel should be considered for development there. Ox I feel has better effect for us on the wings (or as wing back in 3-4-3) So essentially we have… Read more »

Wilshere to miss everything….ever.

not so fed up

Does Plymouth FC beckon?

Merlin\'s Panini

It’s easy to forget just how much potential he has. Still just 25. If he can just get on top of the injuries he can still be a great player. It’s looking less likely admittedly but I would really like to see him stay.

Ama

On another news, the sun will set tonight, for sure!
