Iwobi on Lacazette, and how he needs consistency next season

Alex Iwobi says that Alexandre Lacazette is settling in well with Arsenal after the French striker scored a goal in Thursday’s 2-0 win over Sydney FC, and that the record signing is sure to hit the target plenty in his first campaign.

The 26 year old scored 37 goals for Lyon last season, and the Nigerian international has backed him to have a positive impact in the penalty box for the Gunners.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said, “As you can see he’s gonna bring goals to the team, gonna bring good link up play, and he’s already enjoying his time here.

“He’s got good chemistry with the lads, and I’m sure there’ll be a lot to see from him throughout the season.”

He also spoke about his own hopes for the upcoming campaign, and said he has a point to prove after struggling a little in the second half of last season.

“I didn’t play as much as I’d like to last year,” he told the Mirror.

“I want to start the season with a bang. I’ve been doing a bit of running and ball work to prepare.

“I need to be a bit more hungry this year, add more goals and assists. At the start of last season I played a lot. I want to do that all year. Consistency is the key with me.

“Goals win games. I need to add that. Arsene Wenger spoke to me towards the end of last season. Show me you’re able to do that and ill give you a chance.”

The Nigerian international is an exciting talent, so hopefully he can shake off that second season syndrome and really rip it up in his third.

Have an ace season, both of you, Iwobi and Lacazette. GOYG..

Spanish Gooner

When he learns to finish he’ll be a star, his positioning and off the ball movement is already excellent so if he adds that he can be a 15 goal a season player easily

Massive fan of Iwobi, his technical ability, dribbling and passing are all underrated. He is good at breaking down defences and finding the right ball. He just needs to work on his finishing and add goals to his game, after that, nothing can stop him from becoming the world class Alexis replacement we crave!

clins

me too. dont know why some of our fans are not warming up to him . he is player i really rate .he is such an elegant player , and his strength is really underrated . he is also miles better than walcot technically and has got more end product than ox had at his age. and above all its his attitude that i really like , never shies away from a challenge , was one of our best player against the mighty barca . i hope he get more chances in the first team

Jung Beans

Agreed – I love this kid.

Reality check

Needs to be more productive in the final third if he wants to stay in the team long term.

I’d think providing assists counts as being productive.

High hopes for iwobi.i like his style

Chippys chip

He has shown good qualities so far and has so much raw talent. Hope he works hard, improves and ends up terrorising defenders everywhere.

goongot

in our current system iwobi has his task cut out dislodging any of our forward trio..he can be productive in sanchez’s roal but then too raw to start just yet..I couldn’t help but think he could use a loan move to reach the next step but then our sqaud depth would turn out to be an issue..It’s tough being an arsene ?

Terry Henry

role

Jack

Going to be a massive player for Arsenal.

Love this guy

determined culture

iwobi is our heir to mesut. under the german’s astute leadership, iwobi will blossom into a world class talent.
mesut sure has his hands tied this season, having to mentor both iwobi and giving lemar a few tips.

Rich

He’s not a wide forward.
When he played on the left Monreal got isolated
And when he played on the right Bellerin got isolated.
Skilful player, but can’t see him getting back into the first team, I’d send him out on loan for the season.

Hi-brid

A bit of running and ball work? Sounds like a novel preparation for this football lark.
