Theo Walcott, having already compared Sead Kolasinac to a tank and an animal, has waxed lyrical on the other new arrival this summer, Alexandre Lacazette.
The French striker was unlucky not to score against Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday, almost putting the finishing touch to what was a beautiful Arsenal move in the first half.
In classic Theo style, he’s stated the obvious, saying that the former Lyon man is going to score goals, but also that his performance in the Community Shield showed what he’s about.
“Hitting the post shows his quality,” he said, before wondering whether actually scoring might be a better measure of that.
“When you give him time and space on the ball, he’s got quality and he showed that. The way he held the ball up too. Obviously the manager will be the best judge of his game, as I was too focused on what I could do to change the game when I came on.
“He’s a goalscorer and he’s going to score goals for this club. The number of key players we have in all sorts of positions, they’re going to supply for him and Oli as well. There’s loads of competition as well.”
Walcott came off the bench at Wembley, and looks set to start the season there, as we prepare for the first game, taking place on Friday evening.
It’s certainly different, and something Walcott thinks might be of benefit for the Gunners.
“A night game might be better for us,” he said. “It’s a bit different, a bit new for us and our fans will be up for it.
“Home support is always crucial and that will be so key this season as the fans will just be behind the team from kick off all the way through.
“Clear eyes, full Arse, can’t lose.”
“as I was too focused on what I could do to change the game when I came on.”
HAHAHAHAHAHA So self aware theo do keep it up.
Too many good performances in other areas of the field (Xhaka, Kolasinac, Iwobi) for Laca to stand out.
However, goalscorers should be judged on goals. Let’s see how the first 10 games go.
I tell you what, its a master stroke by Wenger. Buy Lacazette, keep Giroud…its brought out the beast in OG. He’s strutting around like a wounded peacock but they’re neck and neck thus far with goals.
Theo typifies everything that’s wrong with Arsenal, happy not to play in a World Cup year, it’s almost like sitting on the bench for a season and not having the hassle of going to Russia next summer is ideal for him.
We should put him on the market and tell him in no uncertain terms he’s not needed.
why
Did Walcott rent your wife? Strikers and wingers are judged by goals and assists. He just scored 19 goals last season. This pre-season he is joint scorer along Lacazette and Giroud. He has the highest ball on targets too. However, welbec have no goal. Yet you want to dispose Walcott. Just Listen to yourself and ask God for forgiveness. Grow Mr Rich, Walcott is here till 2018 June at least.
Last season after over a decade of debating what’s his best position…. He decides he’s a right sided wide forward….but his problem has been he just hasn’t been working hard enough defensively…. Over 10yrs to come to that conclusion?….. Then there’s the new system, where we no longer play with wide forwards so that plans down the drain. Then there’s the whole issue that once he loses his pace, he won’t offer much else because technically he’s very weak. Theo is a good impact player and a very decent finisher, but once he loses that speed to get into those… Read more »
My brother’s named Rich but he’s not a dickhead
Our second highest goal scorer last season and longest serving player is everything wrong with the club? Do you want a snickers mate?
The return of Mr Positive
I like Theo but frankly would prefer someone with a bit more nuance like Mahrez, balance out the creativity from the other side with Alexis.
That said, walcott has been trying to make a case for himself pre-season, I don’t think we can accuse him of being content with merely the coffee machine.
But is he the best for the team? That’s debatable frankly.
Maybe that’s why he has another role now as promoter general.
Happy to be in the squad and play his part. Will go to the World Cup if he plays well so should be motivated. And our squad is big enough to allow all our players a breather too during the season so they aren’t too knackered by the end of the season.
I’m pretty happy with our winger situation. Looks like Welbeck, Walcott, Iwobi, Ox, maybe Nelson will all be the backups to Alexis/özil in that forward 2/winger position. That’s pretty good depth really, and Welbeck can also play striker, of course.
We no longer play with wide forwards…..
Remember with 9 games to go last season we moved to a new system?
That the manager says he’s going to keep?
Our problem isn’t putting the ball in the back of the net, our problem has been breaking down two sets of 5 players in front of the ball.
Our problem has been without Cazorla we struggle to create enough chances.
Theo doesn’t solve that problem.
Replacing Theo with Lemar? or a more technical player does.
Call it whatever you want wide forward/winger/inside forward/shamalamadingdong. There are two positions behind the striker that will be occupied by the players I mentioned in my comment.
Impressed with Lacazette so far, can’t wait to see him with Sanchez and Ozil
“Clear eyes, full Arse, can’t lose.”
I’m with you, truly, but also a little bit eww.
Told you he was a “bit of a knob” yesterday. I got slaughtered. Knobs 🙂
Walcott should be an agent.
With that new hair gel of his, you feel he can big up just about anyone with exception of TGSTEL who is already “massive” of course.
Over to you Theo – Honourable discharge Jenko, Classical decomposer Debuchy, Gibbs nib, Lucas Perezski, Campbell soup, Jack knack. Sales pitch please.
