Arsenal have ensured the deal for Rob Holding is an even bigger bargain than first thought by making an advance payment to Bolton Wanderers to cover a fee payable for the number of appearances he makes for the club.
It’s standard practice to include such clauses, but given the Championship side’s perilous financial situation, they’ve agreed to take money now in return for a discount on the total amount.
Bolton chairman, Ken Anderson, told a fan’s meeting, “The money for Rob Holding’s appearances could have taken one year to come through. If he isn’t playing, it could have taken 10 years.
“It’s unlikely to be 10 but it could have been four or five years. I took the view that it was better to reach an agreement with Arsenal and bring that forward, do a slight discount on that, and they did.
“There are still monies due from Arsenal and if they sell him we are due a substantial sell-on, but I’m not allowed to go into it because the clubs signed a confidentiality agreement.”
So, Rob Holding, you know, he’s cheaper than Cannavaro. Probably.
stick him in the team, and make him captain
Our club’s have signed a confidentiality agreement that entitles us to 25% sell-on profit on Holding. But I cannot tell you more because of our confidentiality agreement that we signed while agreeing a 10million buy back clause applicable for the coming three years. It’s all written about below our confidentiality agreement. I cannot give you further details because of the confidentiality agreement. However, you may email me at [email protected]
shouldn’t that email be trustworthyasfuck@
I think he will turn out to be a very good bit of business – good luck Rob
I think he already has. His FA Cup final display alone paid for his transfer fee.
Bargain of the century, he’s better than canavaro!
But is he cheaper than Tony adam? Or sol campbell?
Is that rock chewing Charlie’s brother? If so, no he’s probably a costlier but better investment.
Tony Adam Was So Campbell
It seems like the new team behind the scenes are starting to earn their keep…
Looks like we will be Holding onto him.
Greedy chairman. Bolton should have been holding out for more. We just Robbed them.
Wasn’t Cannavaro move to Juve in his prime a swap deal with Fabian Carini, the keeper we sort of signed but actually didn’t in 2002? Technically a free?
Fucking hell, how do you know that ?!
I’m actually from Milan, my brother being an Inter fan. Took the piss with him for a whole year after that decision, giving away Cannavaro for a keeper they didn’t actually need.
Had forgotten all about it!
Genuinely hated Bolton through Fat Sam’s stewardship with all the ‘that Arsenal from that London don’t like it up ’em’ feat. Kevin Davies’ elbows bullshit, but all the same, when clubs are going through such financial difficulties like they are you have to feel for the fans.
My attitude towards them soften a bit around Owen Coyle’s time, we’ve sent a few players on loan (Wilshere being the most prominent) and I recall their chairman saying good words about us when we signed Holding. Their fans also seem a much more reasonable bunch than say those at Stoke too, who I don’t think I’ll ever soften my attitude towards
How broke are Arsenal that they couldn’t pay the £2m upfront that Bolton wanted? Also forcing a team who are broke to take less money, what happened to the Arsenal way?
They would have paid a transfer fee, then paid Bolton extra when Holding made X amount of appearances. It’s nothing to do with being broke, it’s how deals are done
Yea, they wanted 8/9m the season before. They settled for 2m + add-ons.
Not everyone is stupid enough to pay 30m for Shaw, or 50m for Stones/Walker.
I’m also sure it says that they approached us, because they were in dire need. These type of deals typically have a discounted buy-out (similar to an early repayment fee).
The Arsenal way? With Kroenke in charge? We are not a charity. Just business.
Well, I thought the price for Walker was ridiculous in part because, as far as I could see, he has great pace but very poor relevant skills for a fullback (like defending and crossing). But he looks a completely different player for Guardiola. Still a lot of money (unless you own an oil-rich country), but not as ridiculous as it seemed.
“I need a hero. I’m holding out for a hero ’til the end of the night.
He’s gotta be strong
and he’s gotta be fast”
