Arsene Wenger has praised Aaron Ramsey for the way he keeps Arsenal on the front foot in matches.
The Wales international has enjoyed an injury-free run in his favoured central midfield position this season contributing three goals and five assists, including winning the stoppage time penalty that Alexis converted at Burnley to steal all three points on Sunday.
“He is an excellent player and very important for us,” Wenger told Arsenal.com. “Let’s hope he can continue that run because he is a guy who drives the team forward in a relentless way.
“He can go from the first to the last minute and has the engine to do both sides of the game and that is what we want.
“He can defend well and attack well, he can go in the box and that is why he got the penalty on Sunday because he was in the situation where he could provoke that.”
With the games coming thick and fast it’ll be interesting to see if the boss persists with playing Ramsey alongside Granit Xhaka or if the likes of Jack Wilshere, Francis Coquelin, Mohamed Elneny and Alex Iwobi will get game time in the centre of the park. Tonight’s match against Huddersfield will be an indicator, for sure.
While something of a marmite figure at the Emirates despite two FA Cup winning goals, there’s no doubting that the movement provided by a fit and confident Ramsey is vital to our attack when trying to pick the lock of teams who come and park the bus.
still think he doesnt convert enough for how far forward he roams. Would prefer a better creator who holds back, or, if he is going to go forward, a better finisher. Criminal to miss the lacazette pass on sunday
Spot on, we all know about his non-stop engine and great energy but what stops him from being truly top class are the factors you mention no doubt, hence his marmite description in relation to arsenal supporters.
Majority of our players have already played 5 less games than they usually would have.
Three games in a week would be the first time they’d done it this season.
It’s normal Feb+March we have a full on melt down
Is he still a marmite figure? I see him more liked now than anything. I think a lot of the stick previously was the injuries?
Always really liked Rambo
Always puts in a shift
However I’d certainly be open to an upgrade but that goes for every position
I’d say his form has shown an improved since he reduced his beard to a stubble ?
Can only imagine his levels of performance once he goes back to his clean shaven look of 2013-14, his breakthrough year ??
showed an *improvement* since
*shown* an improvement
God I wish I could improve my typing ?
I would say have a shave but a lot of people Can’t shave till Friday!
I think he’s been decent. Just hasn’t taken that step up to the next level we were all hoping for
“He can go from the first to the last minute and has the engine to do both sides of the game and that is what we want.”
Yeah, but what about being a midfielder who dictates the tempo of the game and creates a few chances for teammates. I like players like Ramsey who is all around player, but he should be more “creative” with the ball, because none of our midfielders know how to put a direct ball in the box or a through ball for our strikers.
The Welsh Jesus is a box-to-box player, not a playmaker. That’s the job of players like Cazorla, Ozil, Sanchez; but it’s just as important.
Finally getting a consistent run of games, and long may his good fitness last. Should add 10+ goals a season to his game, he gets into those kinds of positions often enough. I do hope Arsenal tie down Rambo (and Welbeck+Cech) to a new contract, and soon. Don’t want a repeat of this summer’s will they, won’t they drama.
He will leave the club a legend. Hopefully, that will be many years from now.
I think that in the least few games Ramsey has really stepped up and played well. I feel like alot of people give Xhaka a pass for poor performances but Ramsey hasn’t put a in poor performance for awhile and still gets alot of criticism. He’s not perfect but I think the stick he gets is unjustified at times. Ramsey generally gets better as he plays more matches so I’m excited to see where he will go from here.
If it wasn’t for Rambos engine we wouldn’t be playing the 3-4-3 system week in week out. No club does it well without an absolute workhorse in the middle to be at both ends of the pitch when it matters. Legend, absolutely giving his all every game.
Ramsey is generally dog sht and I cringe watching him but I have to credit him with a great game this week.
