Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Mesut Ozil will miss Arsenal’s game with Huddersfield Town on Wednesday night as a result of the illness that forced him to return to London today.
The Germany international was in line to play against Burnley but had to be replaced in the squad by Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
The Gunners won 1-0 at Turf Moor without their midfield maestro, courtesy of a stoppage-time Alexis Sanchez penalty, and the boss thinks he’ll be without Ozil in three days time.
“I haven’t even seen him,” said Wenger in his post-match press conference.
“The doctor came to see me and said we had to travel him back today. He was in the hotel with us.
“He travelled up and travelled back and we brought Maitland-Niles, who arrived at 1pm because we were only 17 [without Mesut].
“>Will he be available for Wednesday? Certainly he will be short for Wednesday.”
Shame, he was looking good.
Come back soon please Ozil.
also a shame for AMN, I mean I hope his readyness to step in so swiftly he could have been given 5 mins, though I guess it was still 0-0 so a big risk.
It was ugly today lol I don’t know if Burnley is that good this season and if Ozil would have made a difference in terms of are final third looking better. I’m sure he might have created a chance or two but man life without Ozil is ugly.
Why the thumbs down, even with burnleys incredibly determined well drilled defense which we always struggle against surely you can’t argue özil would have picked out a pass or two. That game was ugly and we have to win ugly games so I am certainly pleased though.
Disagree (but not down voting). I thought today was quality. We fought hard as a team, against a determined opponent our technical superior was just enough in the end.
Good game. Great result.
Burnley are no mugs this year – just ask Chelski, Spuds, Scousers – and any win here is a good one.
More concerning is Ozil’s frequent illnesses just as his agent is talking up Barca salary.
Gutted. Hope and pray that I could watch a bit more of Ozil and Alexis playing together.
For I know.. it is only until it lasts. 🙁
Love them both.
We missed top 4 with these two. In the end, there are best players in every teams who get all the plaudits. Adebayor was as productive for us as Sanchez. Nasri was very impressive with his dribbles, fine plays and score goals; definitely comparable to Ozil.
Seems a bit odd to just leave, then leave us scrambling to get a full bench together for a 14:00 kick off.
Do you think Ozil gives a shit about his teammates or Arsenal?
So… a chance for Jack from the start on Wednesday?
Will be interesting to see who gets Mesut’s spot on that night. Could be Jack, Iwobi or Welbz. I would also fancy seeing Giroud and Laca together up there.
Maybe Alexis could start on the bench so he’s as fresh as possible for United?
As it looked today it’s Ramsey as a 10 and Jack in cm.
no jack, our stupid fucking manager wants rid of jack
Can I give you one thumb up and one thumb down?
Wenga ain’t gonna put Alexis on the bench especially with Ozil out…
I really do hope Wilshere gets his chance to start on Wed. Iwobi has potential but he’s not ready to shoulder the Ozil burden yet. Welbz isnt fully match fit yet
he must be really sick. personally, i hate missing games. i think i play better when I’m sick!
lol, must be when you are sick, you don’t move as much , thus creating less trouble for your team :))
That’s a shame, was hoping a fresh Ozil would go a long way to 3 points against Huddersfield. We still have more than enough to beat them and he’ll be more than at it/ rested for United! Interesting to see how Wenger rotates for Wednesday. I’d bring the likes of Welbeck and Wilshere in but not sure about a Europa league 11..
Definitely not the Europa League 11..those guys just don’t cut it unless the opponents really suck.
Any ref who didn’t give penalty for the push
shd be sacked from referreeing duties with
immediate effect. It was clearcut.I think Belleirn shd
hved got one for the tackle.I have seen it given.
It was clear Burnley were out to frustrate Arsenal
in the 2nd half.
That’s why the epl has got world wide appeal.A lowly team
can give a top team arun for their gold unlike Spain /Germany and
to a certain extent Holland .
Urgh, sorry for the doom and gloom, but fuck it, this is starting to depress me. That’s another 90 minutes we don’t get to see our best front three together, all the while the potential exits of two of those players seems to keep drawing closer :'( ah well, get better for United, Mesut! Hopefully we can keep our momentum going in mid-week
Ozil may give us a better offensive capability with his vision. But I thought Iwobi acquitted himself fairly well today too. What we are really (have been) missing for 3 seasons now is what Santi brought to the midfield. Someone who can control the pace of the game, is technical enough to hold the ball but also drive through the middle at packed defenses. To some extent Jack can do some of that from a slightly deeper role but Santi also developed a pretty good defensive acumen. In all honesty we need to be sharper in front of goal and… Read more »
Am I the only one slightly apprehensive about Huddersfield? I feel like they’ll be really, really up for this. We better be switched on.
If he’s got the flu I’ve just had he won’t be playing Saturday either. Minging.
Get well soon, Mesut. We need your creativity in this team.
that’s good, I don’t think he would have made any difference if he played against burnley
What’s with all these mystery illnesses that only Mesut seems get?
