Arsene Wenger has provided the latest team news update ahead of tomorrow night’s Premier League encounter with West Ham.
The Gunners are looking to make up for the points they dropped on the road at Southampton on Sunday, and worries about Aaron Ramsey following the visit to St Mary’s were confirmed.
“Mustafi will not be back,” said Wenger. “We lost Ramsey against Southampton, he will not be available for tomorrow’s game.
“Everybody else, apart from the long-term injuries, everybody looks available. We’ll have some tests this morning to see how everyone has recovered.”
Asked to expand on the two main absentees, Wenger continued:
“Mustafi is out in training, running but playing yet,” he said. “The medical staff have decided he won’t be ready. For Newcastle at the weekend, perhaps.”
As for Ramsey, he continued, “Hamstring, a short period, it’s not a long one.”
Let’s hope not.
Famous last words ‘ it’s not a long one’ how many times have we heard that about a player and end up being out for the season?
Santi was out for a week originally
A lot of discussion by Blogs and James about the midfield issues but, for me, defensive issues are far more worrying. Reverting back to a back four is a partial solution because Bellerin in particular is a full back, not a wing back and is being exposed in that position. Central defence is a shambles. With Kos out of form, BFG no longer reliable and Mustafi injured, who on earth is going to solidify a defence that will face Andy Carroll and co. tomorrow night. A risk I know, but why not give Holding and Chambers a go? For the… Read more »
Id play Debuchy, He is a real man of strength and looked good for not playing much. Ballerin has regressed and is too easily muscled in the challenge
Still shaky defensively..caught out a couple of times against Bate which isn’t exactly top opposition.
So you want to risk two inexperience players one of whom was culpable with plenty of mistakes start of season?
If (massive if admittedly) alll our defenders are fit & in form they’re not a problem. If all our midfielders are fit & in form there is still no partnership that’s really good enough. That’s why midfield is a bigger issue.
I think Ramsey will be back for the Liverpool game.
That’s what she said.
I’m really concerned about pushing Kos through another 90 in midweek as well. I don’t think 2 games in a week is an option for him anymore. Think the dip in his form is a direct result of playing 2 games in a week.
Mustafi shouldn’t be anywhere near the side again after he bottled it against United. Injured my arse.
not sure why you’re telling everyone you injured your bum but sorry to hear it anyway.
So slot Wilshere in for Ramsey and Chambers in for Mustafi. What is the problem? I have been crying out for these two to starts for ages! But Wenger will go for Elneny or Coquelin alongside Xhaka which means zero creativity and will put Mertesacker in defence which is a disaster waiting to happen. He is still living off that FA Cup final performance!
Cech…debussy koz monreal…hector elneny wilshire kolas…ozil lacaz giroud…..xaka/mert/sanchez drop to the bench
To be honest if it was for me,not wenger I’d go with this selection my man too.
Wenger has to start trusting his fringe players. Give the big man a start up front, give jack a start, give chambers a chance and put Danny on instead of you know who, as we can’t keep letting teams attack us on the break by losing possession in the final third. Wenger has to change it up as our away from is truly depressing.
Our guy got a new hair cut 😀 Looking good Arsene! Will always love that man..
Getting worried about Mustafi. He’s still one of the better cracks we have on hand. If Ramsey is tight, we should try Jack next to Granit. I believe Wilshire may stay more disciplined. The Swiss has been actually good last couple of matches(put in a couple of well timed tackles to suggest he is getting his timing better), but he is being absolutely isolated and overwhelm with Ramsey venturing to o high up too soon again. Its just not in his nature. I think it will also be a mistake for Wenger to only play Jack higher. He may have… Read more »
