Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang says he hopes to build a strong on-field partnership with Alexandre Lacazette, as the former Ligue 1 rivals find themselves on the same side in North London.
The latter was a £50m arrival from Lyon last summer, while Aubameyang joined from Borussia Dortmund in January for £55m. It’s the most expensive strike partnership ever put together at Arsenal, and like many fans, the the Gabon international wants to play with Lacazette rather than it being a case of one or the other.
At the moment, with Europa League and Premier League quite distinct, that’s the way it will be, but next season it could well be a case that the two play at the same time.
“I hope we will have the opportunity to play together,” said Aubameyang. “It’s something I said when I first arrived that I hoped to play with him.
“We have different styles, but I think they’re styles that complement each other – he’s a very good player and a very kind person.
“We were once rivals in our days in France, but we’re now friends and I hope we can play well together and score lots of goals.”
It’s certainly something Arsene Wenger seems to think can happen, although he appears to view Auba as someone who can play from the left wing because of his pace and movement.
Whether it’s the best way to deploy them remains to be seen, and last Sunday’s win over Southampton saw Aubameyang and Danny Welbeck play as a front two at times, so perhaps that’s the way it might work.
Time will tell.
4-4-2
Right? It’s really not that effing complicated….
Na, he will put Auba on the wing. The guy who is in his absolute prime, the guy with 130 goals in his last 4 seasons and 6 in 7 with us. Yes he may be able to cut in on the break on the left – Arsene must have daily dreams of his number 14 curling one into the far corner – But against good defences and negative tactics, do you really want your 187cm centre forward crossing for your 175cm ‘false 9’*? This has already happened against spu/s this season, where Auba had literally no space on the… Read more »
we can still use the 4-2-3-1, but let the front guys drift in and out of positions/fluid front 3 like Liverpool does
Cech
Bellerin Holding Kos Monreal
Xhaka Rambo
Mhiki Ozil Auba
Laca
Wow, that’s a lot of attacking potential.
I think you have too many defensive players in there /s
it would be a lot better with wilshere in the team
That’s the thing though. I have a big feeling Wenger will play Auba out left if the two were to start together. The manager has already even talked about it once in the interviews. I don’t hate Wenger blindly but this is one area where he’s been absolutely lacking in recent years. Not flexible enough with his tactics to get the best out of the team. It’s continually square pegs in round holes.
Works for Real Madrid
LMAO FTW
COYG
Trying to fit an R in there
MOLAR works in French but it doesn’t mean something super positive
Hope the manager leaves in the summer
I tell you what , last time I smoked the manager leaves in the summer I couldn’t tell my head from my toes.
sorry, at least one more season
Arsene will never play the two of them together. He will never do a 442 formation. All he’ll do is start hauling Auba off for Laca at 70 minutes every PL game, like he used to do with Laca and Giroud.
Who knows. But that’s the silver lining of having nothing to play for in the premier league in terms of position.
I’d rather see Miki and Ozil together than Auba and Lacazette. We could only play 2 strikers and an attacking mid if we played 4312 or 352, and we won’t. We can’t play all 4 in their right positions unless we played 4222 and that just doesn’t work (too light in midfield, asks too much of the attacking midfielders to get back to defend in a 442). I just think we’d be better sticking with 4231, 4321 or 3421.
How many different permutations of single digits add up to eleven? Maybe 7am can tell us.
Lacazameyang!
I don’t see why we can’t play a 4-4-1-1 think Laca could provide good link up play with Auba
More like a 4-1-2-1-2. A midfield diamond and two up top but I think it will be only if need be, particularly if we are chasing goals.
Most of us hope that will happen, I think. If it’s a 4-4-2, however, then how do you play Ozil? Dhaka would need legs in the middle. Maybe on the right. But then you’d be paying a random for a player you’re not playing in his best position. Wenger doesn’t seem keen on the idea of three at the back anymore so I just don’t see how you can play them both upfront. I think playing one of them on the wing would defeat the purpose. Wishful thinking but I’d love to see us go old school to 4-4-2 again.… Read more »
we don’t, we sell him and cash in on him, to buy better players
Its a midfield problem. We don’t have the players to play 4-4-2 at the moment.
Laca just behind Aubameyang. Ozil/Mkhi drifting on the right/left interchanging. Ramsey and Xhaka behind them.
Narrow
There will be occasion to play two up top but more likely (UNTIL we solve midfield) we will play either or. OTOH one of the strikers (like Welbeck) can pivot with the main striker form a deployment wide left or right taking turns to fill in centre or stay wide. This particularly as we are short on an experience wide player. Mhkitaryan to me (given age) is still not sufficiently quick to play a traditional winger role. I think what we will see is a 4-1-4-1 or a 4-1-2-1-2 (diamond in midfield to accommodate two strikers when we need to… Read more »
