Bayer Leverkusen announce Bernd Leno has signed for Arsenal

Arsenal have completed the signing of Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen, according to Bayer Leverkusen.

The German side just sent this Tweet confirming the move and thanking the keeper for his seven years with the club.

The 26 year old is believed to have commanded a fee in the region of €25m, and comes to North London after seven years with the Bundesliga outfit.

He began his career with Stuttgart before joining Leverkeusen full time in 2011, and he made 304 appearances them, conceding a total of 378 goals [source].

Leno has made six appearances for Germany, and will compete with Petr Cech for a starting place next season.

His signing comes on the recommendation of Sven Mislintat who has championed his countryman ahead of other potential recruits this summer.

The club have appointed a new goalkeeping coach, Javi Garcia who worked with Unai Emery at PSG has taken over from Gerry Peyton, and seasoned Bundesliga watchers will be hoping that he can work with Leno to eradicate some of the lapses in concentration which have been a part of his game.

It’s believed the German has signed a five year contract.

Welcome to The Arsenal

Mach to be you

Welkommen Bernd to the Arsenal. Loving these early season signings, more please. Helps to lift the overall mood, and spare my nerves a little.

Ya gooner

Also helps the players settle! They don’t have to miss the first 2 games now 🙂

Love it when a goalkeeper gets his angles perfect and makes a deflected save. Noble Nerd indeed. Welcome!

The Bishops

Oh first.

AmericanGooner

As in our first choice keeper? Because you definitely weren’t the first comment.

The Bishops

wow, this is a good one. Now where is Lucas??

Meh

Yeyyeyeye

Anshul

Just checked the stats..
Leno hasn’t saved a single penalty in the Bundesliga in the last two seasons.. So Cechish..
Hope he improves on that.. Welcome Leno! Hope he becomes world class with us one day!

AmericanGooner

Welcome Bernd! I’ve heard you can save a penalty or two! ?

Karlito

Not to rain on the parade or anything but isn’t 378 goals conceded in 304 appearances a little bit worrying?

goongot

It’s bayern leverkusen and not munchen.

PeteyB

Aye, that’s a fiarly pointless stat when not coupled with the number of shots faced. In some ways getting a goal keeper from a team with a dodgy defence should suit us well…

Tas Gunner

Nice and early.Loving the work of Mr. “catalyst for change” so far…

santori

Hopefully Lehman can have a positive influence.

I’m not sure he is the best prospect.

BUT maybe he can develop into so…hopefully.
